Dear Ken,

I am also researching your line. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Euphrosyne Westman, her parents were Charles Westman and Johanna Erasmus. Elizabeth married Francis Forsyth and moved to Australia in 1914. I do have some info which I haven't been able to verify in South Africa, but not on hand at present. Will contact you when I have it.

I see you posted this message in 2001, I am Debbie Montague (Westman), part of the Wessman line. have you managed to gather any more info on our family history as I am now becoming very interested in the history of that side of the family and of the early settlement into South Africa. my Grandfather was Newton Westman and my father is Mark Westman, all come from Pietermaritzburg, not sure if this rings any bells for you.
I would love to hear from you and find out how much info you have managed gather.

Hi, I am looking for any info on a Hilda WESTMAN. She came to the US from Finland in 1907 to live with her father, John WESTMAN, in Superior, WI. John was born in Sweden. Hilda was born in 1890. She married Fred ANDERSON sometime between 1907 and 1910. Fred and Hilda adopted my ggrandfather, Arnold (Raphael) ANDERSON around 1910 in Superior, WI. I am looking for Arnold's birth parents.

TUSTIN - Deborah Sue Gregory (n.e.e. Westman) died suddenly at home in Luther on Nov. 8, 2007. She was 44.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1963 in Cadillac to Lloyd and Jean (Matson) Westman. She attended Pine River Schools, and following high school continued her education at the Cadillac Academy of Beauty where she worked for several years after completing her training.

She met and later married Thomas D. Gregory. They exchanged vows on Aug. 12, 1989 and enjoyed 18 years of marriage. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Tustin.

In addition to her dear husband Thomas, she is survived by step-son, Curt (Brenda) Gregory of Reedesville, Wis.; six step-grandchildren, Tyler, Jessica, Jared, Sarah, Amanda and Christina; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law; and her faithful pet and companion, a black lab named Shadow.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant child, Jason Alexander Gregory.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at Augustana Lutheran church in Tustin with Pastor Hudson officiating.

Tyra Margaret Turnbloom Westman and extended family

I am looking for any information relating to Tyra Margaret Turnbloom (and any extended family) who was born in Sweden abt 1902 and immigrated to the US when she was 3 years old. Tyra Margaret married George Westman and raised her family in Cadillac, Wexford, Michigan, United States of America passing away in 1997. George and Tyra had 6 children; Gordon V, George, Dean W, Jimmy G, Joyce, and Yvonne L. Tyra Margaret is my husband's beloved grandmother.

The church books from Sweden that are available on-line are great but I would need a translator. Is there a version in English?

I am actually looking for Tyra Margaret Turnbloom (and any brothers, sisters, parents, etc.) who married George Westman. Tyra Margaret was born about 1902 and emigrated from Sweden when she was 3 years old. Tyra Margaret raised her family in Cadillac, Wexford, Michigan, United States of America. She passed away in 1997. Tyra Margaret is my husband's beloved grandmother.

An update: Robert Clyde Westman born July 4 1931 passed away on June 29, 2006. His sister Arvida Beverly (Westman) Berg, passed away July 18, 2006. Josph Arthur is the last surviving child of Per Arvid Westman.

Yes, William X. Westman born in 1843 in Queens County, Ireland married Mary Ann McLaughlin (I think this was her maiden name) in Pennsylvania. He and Mary are buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lancaster, PA. which is where I got the Queen County birth. He shows up in 1880: Manheim, Lancaster, Pennsylvania census. I can't find where he immigrated into or his immigration information. I really would appreciate help. Thanks, Margaret

I would love to know if William X. Westman, who is from Queens County, Ireland according to his tombstone immigrated in through Canada. I can't find him in the US immigration rolls. Any help would be gratefully accepted. And Thanks

Cornelius Alexander Westman was located in Lancaster, son of William X. (probably that Xavier I had heard about) and Mary Ann McLaughlin. Mary Ann was born in Dillarsville according to her tombstone. William from Queens County Ireland. There were several siblings: Susan, Alice, Willie, Katie,John and Frances.

I'm looking for any info on Per Arvid Westman who came to Canada from Sweden in 1924 arriving in May onboard the Antonia from the UK. His mother's name was Hannah, had a sister named Thea & half brother Uno Lindstrom. Married Stella in British Columbia Canada & had three children, Joseph Arthur, Robert Clyde & Arvida Beverly. Passed away July 30 1980 in Vancouver BC Canada. He is my grandfather.

General information on my Westmans - Westmans were usually crofters/soldiers in Sweden and likely originated in V Ämtervik, Värmland, Sweden - hence the name Westman

I'm looking for information on westmans as a research project I am doingto try to find my family tree. I know that in 1906, Phil Westman married Myrtle Rowland, and would be interested in knowing whether anyone is related to Phil Westman.
Currently, most of the Westmens live in Saskatchewan, Canada, but I know the we originated elsewhere.
I would appreciate ANY ideas, sugestions, or help anyone has.

Ancestors - I am doing research into the WESTMAN family-tree nl. Ancestors/Descendants of Charles Wessman Snr. (name changed to Westman in the early 1900's) who was the son of Captain Carl John Wessman, both of Visby, Gotland, Sweden. Charles Wessman was shipwrecked in Mossel Bay, South Africa in 1876 and lived in Blanco (near George, South Africa) from 1879 until his death in 1920. He was married to Johanna Erasmus the youngest daughter of Lourens Erasmus, a farmer in the Mossel Bay District. They had ten children. It is known that one daughter emigrated to Australia.

I don't know if he was related to him or not. All I have on him is the following and that I know he was my grandfather and that he died after my father (after 1952). He lived with his eldest daughter, Erma Vatter in Lancaster. But before 1910, nada... Sorry!

Jonas Westman b. abt 1878 and his wife Ellen, along with daughthers Elsie (b. abt. 1912), Mildred, Madeline, and Doris are both listed as passengers on the Stockholm ship that came to Ellis Island on August 11, 1921 originating from Gothenburg or Goteborg Sweden. The family settled in New Jersey in the suburbs of Newark. Elsie married Nils Norquist and they had two children, Karin and David.

I am interested in finding more information on this family, especially information on Jonas and his parents.
