Joseph Westwood was born in Stourbridge where he married a Jane Pearson. Joseph was a soldier in Wellington's Army at Waterloo. His son William Joseph Westwood married Elizabeth Tilley and emmigrated to Pennsylvania and from there to St. Louis, Missouri. After the death of his first wife her returned to England and returned with his father and mother: Joseph and Jane Westwood. As well, he then married Elizabeth's sister, Fanny Westwood. He had a blacksmith shop at 13 and Franklin in St. Louis. Joseph developed a bad case of gold fever and the family left for California. They spent several years in Salt Lake City teaching muscic until finally settling in Valjeo, California. From there in 1860 the family moved to Victoria, BC for the Goldstream Goldrush. A big money loser. From there the family moved to Westwood Lake near East Wellignton on Vancouver Island. (Now Nanimo. R. Grant's Westwoods are from Cats Hill... about 7 or 8 miles from Stourbridge--but so far we have no definite connection but many of the names are similar.
