Right now the main surname I'm researching is Wetzel; I'm looking for Arthur J. Wetzel b. 19 Sept 1889/1890 d. Aug 1971; he married Clara L. Boyer Sept. 1911 after which the family resided in Myerstown, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania; Clara was b. Jan 1894 and d. late 1980's. Their children were:
Arthur William 1911/1912-1996 (my great-grandfather)
Florence S. 1913/14
Bertha M. 1916
Raymond M. 1917
Mabel K. 1919
Ernest J. 1926/27

Arthur and Clara are buried in Myerstown United Brethren cemetery in a plot with Jacob Wetzel 1818-1879 (according to censuses this family also lived in Myerstown) and his wife, Mary/Maria Pfeiffer Wetzel 1815-1888 and Maggie, wife of Jacob (according to tombstone) 1861-1898. I believe maybe Jacob is Arthur's grandfather and perhaps Jacob's son Jacob was Arthur's father... I'm trying to find the link between them.

I'm also researching the William E. Michael family of Harrisonburg/Rockingham County, VA. Other surnames in my family tree include Ruth, Kreiser (of norther Lebanon county), Wolfe, Trautman(n)/Troutman, Hoffert.

Angie

Doing a Google search for Wetzel-s (specifically Lewis, the indian hunter) and such, I came across this guy:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/wetzel/messages/1595.html
I'm not really doing genealogy, but thought it interesting since our Bert had twin sisters and this guy mentions twin brothers (one named Fred, who married a Bertha...I know common names, but still coincedence since we all know recent Freds and Berthas). Anyway, it could be a link, thought I could help
Don Wilson

Hello,
I was wondering if you could tell me how to access this publication, History of the Wetzel Family, on ancestry.com. I have done searches for a database with that title in Family & Local Histories and come up with nothing, I have tried finding it through their recent database additions but that list only goes back to August. I've also tried finding it by searching all the databases in alphabetical order (tried H for History and W for Wetzel) and haven't been able to find it. Perhaps you can tell me what I am doing wrong? My public library subscribes to ancestry.com and that is how I am accessing it, if that helps or makes a difference.

I'd like to take a look at this since I too am researching Wetzels although at this point it doesn't look like any of my Wetzel ancestors are online anywhere. My great-grandfather was Arthur William Wetzel 1910-1996 married Grace Troutman in 1931, divorced in 1946; Arthur was the son of Arthur James Wetzel 1890-1971 married to Clara Boyer; Arthur James was the son of Jacob Wetzel 1818-1879 and his second wife, Margaret Elter 1861-1898, they married after 1888 which is when his first wife died. Jacob and his second wife are both buried in Myerstown United Brethren Cemetery (PA); Jacob's son also died in Myerstown.

thanks for your help,
Angie

Hello Mary, I read you query message re this name.
I believe maybe we are all related to the Wetzels, or other spellings of said name, and I have found dozens of spellings. My relative Mary E. Wetzel, her dad was Peter Wetzel, Jr. wife. Matilda Davis, I can not find any siblings or her parents, help!, and Peter's dad, Peter Wetzel, Sr., wife, Elizabeth Poff/Pauff, I have data on her and her siblings, will share that,
but whose the father of Peter Wetzel, Sr. any ideas, you could John Wetzel, be relative to him, somewhere back in the lineage. I have been searching over 10 years on PC, also I have been looking for some of the children from Mary E. Wetzel, and her husband Thomas J. Peery, if you need other dates let me know, they lived in Wythe Co., vA.
thanks Ivy

Hi William, Haven't made any further progress with the Wetzel family although we have a letter addressed to Frieda Shockley from a 'Gassy' living in Hamburg dated 12.1.1920. It has in the past been roughly translated but gives no clue as to Friedas parentage. John Wetzel professor deceased is listed on their marriage certificate otherwise we are in the dark. My husband David is descended from Otto John, and John Henry. Walter is a very interesting character, we do not know if he really was Thomas Shockleys son as his birth certificate lists him as Johnson and Louisa as the mother! Feel free to contact me any time and I will fill you in if I have any further news. Are you related to Michael? Unfortunately when Michael phoned my husband took his E mail address and got it wrong it bounced back!Perhaps he'd give us another ring! Nice to talk to you, Mary

Nicholas Wetzel (Witsel)

Hi , My name is Lucille Pope, and I am a direct descendant of Nicholas Wetsel born 1727 . He was my ggg grandfather. I grew up in the Shen. valley about 10 miles from the land Nicholas received in a land grant from Lord Fairfax.Nicholas and Elizabeth had son Henry. who had son John ,who had son David who had son Wm. Mc Cauley who was my father. There is a lot of information on the Wetzel family that is in correct. It is so easy to be confused because many times wrong children or parents are inserted into a family. I am alive, well, have my right mind (debatable)my kids say, but nevertheless, I can say for sure that I know my own relatives. Much of the trouble starts with assuming David F is my gtandfather. . He was NOT. If anyone wants to find out what I know , please contact me

I have been searching for info on Wetzel's for a long time. I am from Glen Ullin and these are all of my ancestors. My grandfathers grandfather was Johann. The cemetery where the decendants of Wilhelm Wetzel is 2 miles from my parents farm. It is the Friendship Cemetery and has the Wetzel and Nagel and Roemich families in it. I have actually gone out and written down all of the names and dates off of the headstones to try to get some dates established. Please respond back to me and let me know what you have for family info. Thank you so very very much. Laura

History of the Wetzel Family Compiled by W. P. Wetzel

I pulled up the list of new databases at Ancestry.com as I do now and again and the first item on the list today was the subject item. It's 35 pages, printed 1908 and concerns the descendents of primarily Nicholas Wetzel b 1727 Germany who with his brothers Henry and Martin came to the US about 1730

A correspondent of mine and her mother had done some research on the Wetzels as Nicholas had a son Henry who had a daughter Barbara who married my 3ggrandfather Christopher Conrad b 1777 Frederick Co., VA. I don't see Barbara in this booklet (though I believe my correspondent sent me documentation of the relationship) but there's lots of other lines described in text which people here may find of interest.

BTW, I show Nicholas' father as Martin b 1700 Prob Sinshiem, Germany d about 1794 Rockingham, VA.

I'd be interested in anyone who wants to share descendents of Nicholas, my 5ggrandfather, as I try to collect all descendents of my 5ggrandparents. The outline descendent tree for my database is presently 9.5 pages long, but obviously there are several to many times that number of descendents. You can contact me directly at dedmod at msn dot com.

Should have included this is the previous reply - How are you related to Henry Michael? My Great Grandmother was Carrie Frances Wetzel, Henry's daughter who married David Lester Bashline. I do know that Henry Michael was raised by his grandfather, Michael Turney, after Aaron passed away. Henry's mother, Margaret Ann remarried and it seems that Henry was not absorbed into her new family. If you need more information on this family please let me know. I had the opportunity to know Henry's children as I was growing up and was fortunate enough to ask questions about our family. Henry's last son is still living near the area where his farm is.
