My grandfather was John William Wheat. He was born in 1880 in TX and died in 1927 in OK. He married Cora Bell of Dustin, Hughes Co., OK, and had four children, Leona, Iona Marie, Ida Belle (my mother), and William Powell. He is buried in Carson Cemetery in Hughes Co., OK. Buried next to him is his grandmother Susana Wheat Ming (1836-1916 according to headstone.) I believe her husband William Frederick Ming was her first cousin.
I have found J.W. (John William) Wheat on the 1880 Collin County, TX, census at age 5 months. The census shows his father as J. Wheat born in TX in 1859. His mother is shown as Sinthe (Cynthia) born in TX in 1859. (Cynthia is the daughter of William Frederick Ming and Susanna Wheat, I believe.) J. Wheat and wife Sinthe are living next door to the Mings on the 1880 Collin County census.
Here is my problem--I can trace the Wheats through the Mings, but I can't figure out from which branch of Wheats my grandfather John William comes. With only the initial J. to go by for his father's name, I'm not getting very far. J. Wheat shows his father as being born in Arkansas and his mother in Mississippi. J.W. (John William, I think) has a brother A.B., born 1878 in TX, also listed on the 1880 Collin County census.
