Seeking further information on Amanda WHEELER who married James Avery THOMAS who resided in Mustang Prarie, TX area in ca 1835. They had a daughter Amanda Catherine
Jane Thomas (Kate) who married John William Morris when Kate was 17 in 1867. They had
13 children. A daughter, Susie Almedie Morris married James Virgil Shelton on 28 Dec. 1904. James Virgil was the son of James Knox Polk Shelton and Sarah Alice Oliver who married in Ellis Co. TX 5 Jan. 1875. Searching for more information on the WHEELER family and the Thomas Family. We were always told there was Indian blood on the Morris/Thomas/ or WHEELER side of the family. Amanda had high cheek bones and darker skin which I am told is characteristic of the French Indian Blood. We have been unable to prove this to be true.
Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated. I am told the Parents of James Avery Thomas were early pioneer settlers in Austin, TX area. and James Avery's brother David was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, First Attorney General of the Republic of Texas and a good friend of General Sam Houston. The Thomas' came to Texas from Alabama.
