I have some information. Ada Wheeling was a sister to Charles O. Wheeling. Their father was Charles Wheeling and mother Nancy McKinney. They also had a least one other sister named Ida Wheeling who married a Chamberlain and lived in Matamoras, PA. Charles O. Wheeling is buried at Pine Hill Cemetery near Sparrowbush, NY.

I am related to this family through Charles O. Wheeling's wife, Emma Jane Adams. Who like to exchange any information or pictures of this family if possible.

Rich
You can also email me at rherndon@crai-ky.com
The 1860 census for Bedford Co. PA, Juniata Twp., p. 262, has a Lucinda Wheeling age 7 living in the household of Joseph Gannden (name on previous page spelled with one N). There is a Julian Wheeling age 47 head of household with a Lovinia age 7, and a Charlot Ganden age 21 and Orins (?) Todd age 2 on the previous page.

Do you have any information about an Anna Wheeling (maiden name, possibly married John Lape) from Somerset Co. PA who had a son Henry in 1855? Thanks.

I believe that my grandfather, Carl Milford Wheeling was the son of the above referenced couple. He was born 12/26/1886 in Venango County Penna. My father, Oakley John Wheeling was his oldest son. I never saw much of the Wheeling family after my father's death in 1940 at the age of 30.
Carl was married to Nellie Clinefelter, they had 6 living children: Virginia Wheeling Baker born in 1909, Oakley J. born March 1910, Clifford born 1911, Paul M. born 1913, Helen Wheeling Vandermark born in 1915 and Jean (I'm not sure of her birth date. They are all deceased.
Clifford still has children living around Cooperstown, Pa. and Paul has a son, Paul Jr., living in Oil City, Pa Helen Vandermark's two sons (Edward and Jerry) and daughter live near Oil City either in Seneca or Cranberry.
I'm sorry to say that after my father's death I had no contact with them. I have not lived in Pa for thepast 49 years. A few years ago while visiting in the area I met Helen Vandermark and Clifford for a few hours but they have since passed away.
I know very little about the Wheeling clan beyond that and nothing about the Clinefelter's.
I would appreciate any background you would care to share.

My Mother told me that Carl had older sisters: Cora, Florence (Wilson), Dora, Daisey Jennie (Weikal), and brother Lee. Do any of these names match yours?

Thanks again, Ann Wheeling Gureczny , originally from Oil City, Venango County
Great grandfather William Wheeling

I am looking for any information about my gr-grandfather William Wheeling. No one in my family knows anything about where he was born or anything about his family. He was born August 23, 1865 and died February 6, 1917. My grandmother passed away when my mother was very young and her only living sibling that we knew was only 17 months old when their father (William) passed. She didn't even know how he died. He was married in 1894 to Cora May Dare and they lived in Hendrickson, Mo (outside Poplar Bluff), they had 7 children, only 5 lived to adulthood. Any information would be appreciated. Thank You.

Steve: Thanks for your info. My mother, who is daughter of Margeurite (Maggie) Wheeling, is still with us and recalls visiting her grandparents, John & Sophronia in Ne. on a couple of occasions with her mother when a child so I got a lot of info from her. I also have a fist full of army pension records on John Wheeling which gave me a little info but not as much as I expected. The army personnel records were practically non-existent and did not help at all. I have nothing on Sophronia Kelley though. I have all this computerized and would send you a printout if I had your mailing address. Mine is: 1055 Marylhurst Dr., West Linn, OR 97068

Tomorrow I will send a print of everything I have on Wheelings (not a whole lot) plus a copy of a picture of John & Sophronia. The printout contains a lot of info you won't care about but that's the way it comes out. Mom, who is an only child, has all her family pictures including an album of Wheelings. There is a picture of Joseph who looks to be 15 yrs. or so. Let me know if you don't have it and I'll send it too. That's all for now. Ken

Steve: Glad your son-in-law liked the picture and info. I don't know about the Henderson, Ill. Wheelings. The timing is about right for John Wheeling but my mother was told this story about John running away from an unhappy home (father a heavy drinker and step mother that didn't like John) by both her mother Marguerite and her grandfather John Wheeling himself. She was also told that his name was Whalen or Whelan before he entered the army. She doesn't remember which way it was spelled. When applying for army pension John wrote that he lived with the Hammer family while growing up. These records also show his name as Wheelon in some places and Wheeling later on. He alway spelled it Wheeling. We know he was married in Crawfordville, Indiana. Maybe a copy of his marriage license would show parent's names. We drove past Crawfordsville on hwy. 74 last Sept. I guess I should have stopped at the county court house. Oh well, maybe next time. I have a son that is going to school in Hershey, Pa. so we'll be back that way again someday. Let me know if you want a picture of Joseph Wheeling as a teen and I'll send it too.

That's all for now.
Ken
