Surnames: Whelan Whalen Leary
Patrick Whelan is my great-great-grandfather. He was born in Ireland abt 1841 in Ireland. I have two sources that indicate Kerry, Ireland as his place of birth and one source indicating the town was Tralee. At some point he married Mary Leary and moved to England. In England he has two children (son - James Francis and daughter Annie Gertrude (Hannah). He came to the U.S. between 1868 and 1870. I have located the 1870 and 1880 census with his family and Patrick's occupation is listed as a tailor.
In 1881, his wife Mary dies. I can not locate any information on Patrick's whereabouts after Mary's death. One of his grandchildren stated that he died shortly after Mary but I have been unable to locate his death record through the Massachusetts Vital Records nor find him in the Boston directories of 1882 and 1883. I have been able to locate records of all of his children except for the youngest, Margaret b. 1878.
I'm hoping that someone can help me in any one of the following three areas:
1. Who were Patrick's parents?
2. What happened to Patrick after his wife Mary died (d. 1881)?
3. What happened to his daughter Margaret (b. 1878)?
Thank-you for any help you can provide.
