Still out there? My mother's maiden name was Whitbeck. I can only get back a few generations:
Jane Elizabeth Whitbeck 1923-1993
Walter William Whitbeck 1892-1961
Clarence Lee Whitbeck 1867-1951
S W Whitbeck, known as "Frank" born about 1834 in PA or NY. I think these guys were related to a Gilbert Whitbeck who can be found in Shebona IL mid 1800s. I find SW on the 1870 census, Fort Dodge, Webster Co IA, but by 1880 his wife is Mrs. George Smith.
Would love any help! Write direct at whitbeckwonderings at yahoo dot com. Thanks!

I am trying to find some information on my Great, Great, Great grandmother whose maiden name was whitbeck. I do not know her first name, but I do know that she married a Mr. Killmar (I don't know his first name either) and that they had at least three children: Henry Killmar (My Great-Great Grandfather), Ruth & Urial. Henry was born on July 12, 1800 at or near West Troy, NY. I know that Henry Killmar married an Elmina Morgan and they had 8 children, the youngest of which was named Lucius Whitbeck Killmar, born July 24th, 1851 at Watertown, NY. Later some of the family migrated to Michigan. I have a copy of Lucius' recollections that he wrote before he passed and some pictures of family members that I can't identify and many that I can from the 1800's. Please let me know if you have any info that might pertain to this. Thank you

He is Almon Case Whitbeck, son of CorneliusWhitbeck and Mary Case.
Are you searching for the John Elmore Witbeck who was born ca 1850? If so, his mother was Catherine Staats, who died shortly after that. His father, John Albert Witbeck, born 19 Jul 1810. John Albert was my GGGrandfather by second marriage to Margaret Bostwick. The Witbecks ended up in Michigan. They were from Arcadia in NY.

Cathy, I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote you before. Duh! My line is as follows: Jan Thomas Witbeck, Andries Janse, Andries Jr., Albert, Andries, Albert, John, Phillip, Mary Belle, Helen Maurine, Sandra Ann. Up to Phillip you would be the same. John Albert Whitbeck was born July 19, 1810 and his baptism [christening] records are in Kinderhook Reformed Dutch Church. His mother was Lenah Legget. His first wife was Catherine Staats. She was born 1814 and died 1851. Is buried in cemetery in Arcadia. I have census records from 1850 and family is listed as John A 39, farmer $3,300 New York, Catherine 33, Charles H, 14, Abram F 13, Jacob E 11, George H 9, Wessel 7, Hellen C 5, Ann C. 3, John E 2 months. On February 6, 1856, John Albert married again. He married Margaret Louise Bostwick [b. August 11, 1826 d. August 20, 1896]. They had three more children Harriet, Phillip Bostwick and Fannie. Fannie died young. Phillip died in 1926. I'm trying to find out something about Harriet or Hattie as she was called.

They are definitely the same family. I have been in contact with someone in CA who is doubly related -- through Whitbecks and Doanes and she has given me lots of info. What else would you like to know? Tell me of your line.

Sandy

The place where Washington Irving lived. Go see movie, you'll see what it looks like. Big Dutch settlement. I believe they might have used actual church in movie. I had other ancestors -- the Van Tassels lived in that area too.

I can give you what I have if you want about older part.

Sandy

That is a grammatically incorrect sentence but do you get the gist?

I do know that Phillip Whitbeck [my greatgrandfather had a relative that married a Doane] and then he married Ella Louise Robinson and her mother was Alvina Doane. I figured that was probably how they had met....at a family get together.

Let me know.

Ten Eyck, John 1846-1923; Rita Whitbeck 1867-1902. Anyone know who Rita's parents were, where she was born? Was she John Ten Eyck's wife? Who were John's parents? We know a Catherine Ten Eyck b.1836 married Peter Whitbeck who died 4-28-1925, age 85. Could Rita Whitbeck have been their daughter? Was John a younger brother of Catherine Ten Eyck? They are buried in the cemetery formerly known as Coeymans, now called Grove Cemetery,
Albany, NY. Please and thanks!

Thanks, but "my" Clarence had to have been about 95 in 1968. He did have two sons in the service during WWI. My grandfather, Walter William, served at Camp Holabird, near Baltimore, as Fire Chief. Dunno what his brother Robert Franklin did, but he became a firefighter when he got out of the army. This is just making me wonder if they had a brother Clarence they never bothered to tell anyone about!! If you are still curious about the picture, I will need your mailing address.

I know this couple had a son named Clarence @1773. I think he may have been my greatgrandfather. "My" Clarence married early 1790s to Suzanne Schneeweis, probably around St Paul MN. He worked for awhile in her brother Peter's drug store. They had two sons, Franklin (1891) and Walter (1892). Around 1908, they moved to Currinville, near Estacada OR. Clarence left Suzanne, or she kicked him out, in the 1920s. She died @1953 in Eastern Oregon Mental Hospital in Pendleton. Last anybody heard of Clarence, he left on a gold prospecting trip to Eastern OR. Dunno if he would be the same Clarence as was in HI in 1968, but it would not surprise me at all.

Have you a Clarence among your Whitbecks? I am looking for one born in the early 1870s, somewhere in the midwest. Married Suzanne Schneeweis @1890 in Saint Paul MN. He said his family came from NY. Oh, I have found Robert Whitbeck's will posted on a Montgomery/Herkimer CO NY site. I really think I descend from son Jacob>Charles>Clarence, but my greatgrandpa is a hard nut to crack!

Well, that certainly eliminates him as "my" Clarence Whitbeck. Shucks. The one I am looking for was born around 1870-1872. He married Suzanne Schneewies @1890 in the vicinity of St Paul, MN. They had two sons, Franklin Robert in February 1891, and Walter William in August 1892. My grandfather, Walter, used to hawk newspapers on the streets of St Paul as a young boy. Suzanne's parents lived with them. Adam Schneewies died in 1901 or 1902, and Margaretha (Schmidt) Schneewies died in 1906. Soon after, the family moved to Currinville, in Clackamas CO OR. It is unknown when Clarence died, as he disappeared on a gold prospecting trip in Eastern OR in the 1930s.
It looks to me like there was an Andrew Whitbeck, brother of Jacob and uncle of Charles, who went to MN around the same time Jacob moved his family to Iowa. There was also a Henry Whitbeck in WI, very near where the Schneewies family lived at the time. Will have to dig into those, see if I can scare up another Clarence.

According to my database, Charles Henry Whitbeck (1850-1931) son of Jacob Whitbeck and Margaret Fero, had a son named Clarence Henry who was born 21 July 1871 in Missouri Valley, Harrison Co., IA and died 6 Dec 1911 in Council Bluffs, Pottawatamie Co., Iowa. Clarence married Mary Kessler on 15 May 1895 in Council Bluffs. Charles Henry Whitbeck married Anna Maria Cramer in Council Bluffs on 28 Feb. 1869.
The information is taken primarily from family records, so I don't know how accurate it is.
