Whit(e)bread DNA study started

As an extension to my Whit(e)bread One-Name Study, I have just initiated a Whit(e)bread Y-DNA project with Family Tree DNA (www.ftdna.com).

The main aim of the project is to discover which families have a common ancestor and how many separate lineages there are. You must be male to take this simple cheek swab test, and you should bear the name Whitebread, Whitbread or Wheatbread, or if you have another name, you have evidence that your direct male line originally had this name.

Examples of questions that could be answered:

1. Are all Bedfordshire (UK) Whitbread families related and how long ago did each one separate?
2. Are the Essex Whitbreads related to the Bedfordshire families?
3. How are the different Kentish Whitebread families related and did they all originate in Sussex?
4. From which of these UK families do families now living in other countries descend?
5. Are the US Whitebreads of German ancestry (originally Weisbrod) at all related to the UK families?

Unfortunately it does cost something. I have gone initially for a 25 marker test at $150, although depending on how the project proceeds I will upgrade to 37 markers. One can start with just 12 markers at $99 and upgrade in
stages.

If you are interested to participate, or you know someone who might be interested, please contact me for more information or go to the corresponding Project page on the ftdna web site.
