Hi, This Anna is generally placed in the family tree of the Whitbreds of White Notley, Essex. However, I have not yet been able to find any proof of this. The known family tree, taken from the 1552 Heralds Visitation of Essex starts with John Whytbrede of Stapleford Tawney, who was probably born around 1430. Anna could therefore possibly be his sister.
I have looked hard for the primary sources for the marriage of Sir Henry Wright and Anna Whitbred, but have so far not had any luck. Do you know where this information comes from?

Thanks for your help

Steven Whitebread
http://www.one-name.org/profiles/whitebread.html

A relative of the Wright family, Sir.Henry Wright, Reverand, b. l424, of Kelvedon Hatch, Essex Co., England, married Anna Whitbread, born l428.
Perhaps this Whitbread (Whitebread) is an ancestor of yours?
Good luck...ew

Whit(e)bread DNA study started

As an extension to my Whit(e)bread One-Name Study, I have just initiated a Whit(e)bread Y-DNA project with Family Tree DNA (www.ftdna.com).

The main aim of the project is to discover which families have a common ancestor and how many separate lineages there are. You must be male to take this simple cheek swab test, and you should bear the name Whitebread, Whitbread or Wheatbread, or if you have another name, you have evidence that your direct male line originally had this name.

Examples of questions that could be answered:

1. Are all Bedfordshire (UK) Whitbread families related and how long ago did each one separate?
2. Are the Essex Whitbreads related to the Bedfordshire families?
3. How are the different Kentish Whitebread families related and did they all originate in Sussex?
4. From which of these UK families do families now living in other countries descend?
5. Are the US Whitebreads of German ancestry (originally Weisbrod) at all related to the UK families?

Unfortunately it does cost something. I have gone initially for a 25 marker test at $150, although depending on how the project proceeds I will upgrade to 37 markers. One can start with just 12 markers at $99 and upgrade in
stages.

If you are interested to participate, or you know someone who might be interested, please contact me for more information or go to the corresponding Project page on the ftdna web site.

Steven Whitebread
http://www.one-name.org/profiles/whitebread.html

Hi again, I just wanted to clarify that I am the grandson of Thelma (AKA "Jo")... Our family history is in New York, not New Jersey... Grandpa Carl was a well known botonist at the State University of New York. Mark and Jo now live in Florida and my dad, Rick lives in New York. I don't know anything about Joanne... I think I might have met her once or twice when I was a really little kid. I currently live in Boston and haven't talked with grandma Jo in years. I know she's into her 80's and her health is semi-stable. Email me if you need some more specifics.

thomas whitebread

According to my reasearch, I have a Thomas Whitebread in my family who was born around 1500. His son Thomas was married to a Eleanor??? and their son John's wife was Elearnor Radciffe.

Gerald's mother apears to be Elizabeth Whitebread. My research indicates that Alice and Michael had several sons. The Spencer the one I have as being married to Hannah Hills and Rebecca Porter spelled his was name Jared.

Do you know if the Gerrar on your tree had any children with Hannah Hills. The Jared and Hanna on My tree had a daughter Martha Spencer, whom I can trace to.

I would appreciate any information you might be able to supply.

Thanks for responding.

If the Marah you mentioned was born in around 1641 in new england, I think we have a match.

I began researching the spouses certain known members of my family on the internet last summer. Of the information I've accumulated off the internet, has not yet been verified by me.

Most of the information concering the extended family appears to have been compiled by a Rev John Holding , Vicar of Scotfold, Bedforshire, England 1903 "Spencers of Bdefordshire"

This past week I may have found the names of the of six additional generation that proceeded the first Thomas Whitehead. At one point it appears as if the name was Whytbred.

If you want I can keep you up to date as I find out more. Also it appears as if the Radciffes were related to the Plagentents.
The first tow spelled their names Whybred. I would be happy to e-mail to you portion of my family tree that contains the Whitebread's which begins with Alice Whitebread and Gerald Spencer.

Bill Thomspon
