hey i am very very interested/proud of the whited family. i feel very strongly about family and family history and have tried very hard for a long time to get all the acts and knowledge of the family bloodline and history. i still don't know exactly where we r from. i've learned that england, then scotland... it seems kinds blurry which one is the 1st origin. i would truly be thankful to join the website. it's hard to find info out and to learn about the past history. i actually am saving $ to move to scotland or england in a few years so that i can re-establish the whited name over there again. but in the sense that hey, our family came here... learned alot and seen alot. and now me along with whoever else is returning our blood to it's root's with the past down knowledge of the travels and experience. i wouldn't change my family name for anything!

Unfortunately, we don't know the name of Thomas' father. He did first marry Margaret White 12 Dec 1817 in Greene Co. TN. Second marriage was to Cordelia Evans. His sister's name was Anna Rebecca Whited who married Jonathan Andre Newman. The Newman and the Whited families moved to Alabama and then the Newman's moved on to Washington CO Arkansas. Whited's followed Newman's later to Arkansas.

Thomas Whited Sr. 1800

Notes from letter that was writed by Thomas J Elms May 1943 (son of Nancy Whited and George Elms) My mother was daughter of Thomas whited Sr. who was born in the 1800 as I have often heard my mother say. I think he had several brothers and sisters but I can recall the name of only one who she (my mother) often mentioned to me and her name was Ann.
This Thomas whited found a wife when he was 18 years of age, a Dutch woman (not German) and she brought into the world 8 or 10 children, among them three girls and my mother was one. All the boys died young or were killed in the civil war. I never saw one of them. The girls all lived to be old and each one had ann by name Sally Ann, Nancy ann, Polly Ann. My mother often told me he must have had a very fond affection for his sister to name each daughter for her. After his wife died, I think about 1840, Thomas Whited married again a woman named Evans, and had some 6 or 7 children. My mother's father must have had other brothers and sisters as my uncle Tom Jr. , my mother's half brother, told me once in years gone by that one of the Whited girls married a Buchannan, a relative of the President.
(my notes) Anna (ann) Whited married Jonathan A Newman. They lived in Alabama (where Jonathan taught at the Cherokee school) and then on to Washington co. Arkansa at the same time their daughter Louisa Newman Buffington and her family moved to Indian Territory (OK)
I would like to find out who the parents of Thomas and Anna Whited are and who was Thomas' first wife. (Thomas died in Arkaasas)

I can give you some information, however I am not sure if you are looking for the same Whited family that I am looking for.
My father's name was William E. Whited, his father's name was Charles T. Whited. He had I believe 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Gertrude Whited (Kappes), Robert Whited, Beatrice Ann Whited (Harding), and Junior Whited. I am not sure if I have the names correct for Beatrice and Junior that is the only names I knew them by.

I hope this helps you and if it is the same family tree, could you give me any information you may have.

Thank You

I also found Amos Whited in the census, listed as inmate in Ohio. I think that it should have listed as resident. I think it may have been the equivilent to todays nursing homes. I have found that Athens Ohio had the first home that was considered a Poor house. I am sure that back in those days older people would need such a place.
I have been trying to research my husbands Grandfather, Amos Whited, that lived in Iowa. I think that I have found in the census his parents, but I can not get beyound that.
Your Amos Whited must have been related some how. Perhaps they were named after the same person.
Have you been able to get anymore information on your Amos Whited?

That is the 64 dollar question! We believe that Thomas and Mary (Waters) Whited are the parents of John Wesley Whited that married Catherine Osborn. Unfortunately, we have no verified proof. No Bible records, nothing. As a matter of fact, we have not been able to find any birth records of their family. Do you have any knowledge of this?
Faye Kraft
David Lewis Whited was my gr grandfather.

I am from the line of Moses Whited, Crockett Whited, my grandmother was Crockett's daughter (Ocie Ola Whited) she married William Patton Stinson and had 15 children with him. I do have some information, but not much. It may take me some time to find all the information. I do know Moses left Virginia and went to Kansas or Missouri and hit it big, but never came back for his children of his first marriage, but stayed with his second wife and their children. There is a lot to go with that scenerio. Hope to hear from you.

Frank Whited m. Etta Lindsey, 30 Dec 1900 Lawrence co., Tenn.

I am researching J.F. Whited, aka Frank Whited, b Apr 1872 in Ohio and died after 1930 probably in Haskell co., Oklahoma. Between Ohio and Oklahoma Frank lived in Tennessee where, 30 Dec 1900, he married Etta Lindsey (Tennessee State Marriages about Etta Lindsey). I am trying to prove/disprove that Etta (Lindsey) Whited is the same person as Mary E. Lindsey (my great-grandaunt). I've got a pretty good case put together for them being the same, but the data is circumstantial. I'd like to exchange data with anyone has researched Frank and Etta (Lindsey) Whited.

My first clue that Mary E. Lindsey may be Etta (Lindsey) Whited was a serendipitous heirloom, a family photo of the Lindsey family (you can see this online at http://www.mathling.com/civilwar.html). The photo shows James Lindsey Sr. with sons Sam and James, and a young woman described as “Etta Lindsey Whitehead.” It sure looks like a family photo of those Lindseys known to have moved from Ohio to Tennessee, and the only daughter in that family was Mary E. Below is the evidence I found trying to prove that “Etta Lindsey Whitehead” is the Etta who married Frank Whited.

Going forward in time relative to the marriage of Frank and Etta... In 1910 the family is still living in Tennessee (Census 1910 Buffalo Road, Lawrence, Tennessee; Roll: T624_1509; Page: 3A; Enumeration District: 82; Image: 829) with their children Clinton Leroy (10 Jan 1905 – 11 Apr 1998) and Esther (b abt 1907). Also boarding with them is Mary E. Lindsey's older brother Sam (Samuel). About 1912 Helen L. Whited, their third child, was born in Tennessee. By 1920 the family had moved to Diamond, Haskell co., Oklahoma (Census 1920 Diamond, Haskell, Oklahoma; Roll: T625_1462; Page: 9A; Enumeration District: 30; Image: 333). Here we have a common migration pattern because abt 1910-1912 Mary E. Lindsey's brother James C. Lindsey Jr. also moved to Diamond (Census 1920 Diamond, Haskell, Oklahoma; Roll: T625_1462; Page: 1A; Enumeration District: 30; Image: 317).

Going backwards in time relative to the marriage of Frank and Etta... A few months prior to the wedding, in the 1900 census Frank is living just a few houses away from Mary E. Lindsey (US census, Census 1900 Civil District 10, Lawrence, Tennessee Roll T623 1584 Page 5A Enumeration District 56). Prior to that in 1880 I think he's still in Ohio (where he was born) living with his widowed mother Celia and brother Luther (Year: 1880; Census Place: Dinsmore, Shelby, Ohio; Roll: T9_1066; Family History Film: 1255066; Page: 87.4000; Enumeration District: 209; Image: 0276). The 1900 and 1910 census records show mother Celia living with Luther, and she's listed as having 8 surviving children. That large family may be the family of Amos and Celia Whited in the 1870 census (Year: 1870; Census Place: Jasper, Fayette, Ohio; Roll: M593_1199; Page: 431; Image: 64), although the fit isn't perfect: Amos is listed as from Maryland whereas Frank and Luther census records consistently report that their father is from Pennsylvania, and based on birthdates the youngest child who should be “Luther J.” is named “John L.” Still, I've found no other families in 1870 that fit better than this.

To repeat myself, I'd like to exchange information with anyone has researched Frank and Etta (Lindsey) Whited.

Dan Ford
danf@mathling.com

I found his wife Cecelia declaring herself a widow, but then I found an 82 year old Amos Whited on the 1910 Census as an INMATE in Athens Co., OH. I'm a little confused and curious. Any ideas?

I believe your Amos's father William was my Amos' brother. I don't have any evidence, except that my Amos and William were born around the same time and could be siblings. I'm trying to find my Amos' death record in hopes it will list his parents. I have found "Whited" spelled Whitehead, Whiterd, Whitard, Whiteds. Any other variations you know of? One researcher on line has Isaac Whited listed as my Amos's father but I don't have any evidence for that either. I'll be happy to share anything I find.
