I am not sure if the spelling is right, this young man was 18 or 19 years old, in the years 1976 or 77. i am leaning towards the later year, for i was only 11 turning 12. The brothers that came was 14 in total, and I know the youngest was 14 and the eldest was at least late thirties to early 40's. Chris had told me he was going back to the reservation with them, in either Arizona or Oklahoma. Thank you for your input, and I hope you find your loved one.
Sincerly Paula

I am looking for a Chris Whitehorn, who was born in 1957 or 58, and spent the summer of 1976 or 77 in the town of Decatur, Illinois. I never saw him after that summer but his kindness and gentle spirit made such a positive mark on my life, in so many ways. His brothers came to get him, and I never saw him again. If anyone knows or think you know who he is, please show him, tell him, that I would love to talk with him again and say thank you.
It was great to get a response I have been working on the Whitehorn Family tree for a few years now so hopefully we can put out notes together and fill in some of the blanks. I remember your grandfather from many years ago I was young when I last saw him probably 10-12? years old. My mom, Al's daughter still stays in touch with a few of the cousins. I know there was another cousin a few years ago doing a family tree but don't know what ever happened to him. I have a family tree going online so I will be able to pass that onto you once we get in touch. Looking forward to hearing from you again soon.
Steve

I only know of five children:
George Thomas Whitehorn, b. 6 apr 1843
Henry B. Whitehorn, b. about 1845
Elvis Bell(or Buell)Whithorn, b. 30 Sep 1846
James S.
I agree with Bob, Molly Nance, b. Mississippi Aug 1869, was the wife of Newton Albert Whitehorn, b. Tennessee Oct 1845. Newt was a veteran of the civil war - co B 4th Tenn Mounted Infantry - a union regiment. His first wife was Mary J. Entrikin whom he married 1 Feb 1877 at Tippah Co., Miss. His marriage to Molly Nance took place on 7 Jun 1891 at Tippah Co., Miss. He and Molly and two sons, Lawrence G. Whitehorn, b. Miss. 25 Jul 1893 and James E. Whitehorn, b. 27 Aug 1895 at Saulsbury, Hardeman, Tennessee. I have no information on Molly's parents, but Newt's parents were Lawrence Grissom Whitehorn and Sarah Robern.

William James Whitehorn & Eliza Field, Deptford, Kent

Has anyone any connection to the above? They married 10th August 1840 at Christ Church, Greyfriars, Newgate, London, England and had their first child, John George William on 7 December 1847 when they lived at 6 King Street, New Town, Deptford. A second child, Emily Julia, was born on 7 March 1851. They were still living at the same address. I have not been able to find William or Eliza on any census although they must have lived around the Deptford area. William may still have been alive in 1868 when son William was married but he was listed as deceased on the marriage certificate of daughter Emily in September 1878. If anyone can help me I'd be very grateful.

I just wanted you to know that not everyone has given up. If you run into anything more on the Whitehorn connection, we would be happy to be included. The English Whitehorns came early to Virginia and are not Indian. There is also an early New England line of Whitehorns. Nonetheless, Whitehorn is also an Indian name and is well-known among the Osage of Oklahoma. It is, of course, quite possible that in their 350 yr sojourn in America, Whitehorns married wives of Indian ancestry. Keep in touch. -- Tony

Thanks again, wish I could help more but the only '' offical " document I've ever seen on Mary is her Widow's pension. I've never even found her death notice in the county records. I only know of her burial place through a church history published in 1960. I will say that a lot of " oral history " handed down over the years debated wither or not Mary was native American. My grandmother's father had what appears to me as indian features as did my grandmaw and her siblings in their youth ( especially the girls !!!! ) Several times over the years Blakely men married Native American women.
Glenn

Thanks for keeping me posted. I heard from a Bob Mitchell back in the late summer, early fall, that seemed to be going in this direction. In her Federal Civil War widow's pension Mary gives her address at times as " Hop Creek, Jonesboro, Tn. " I'am aware that Mary was buried in an unmarked grave in the Hite cemetery in Sullivan County, Tn. not far from where her " homeplace " stood. My grandmother raised her family there after being widowed at a young age. I have a photo of the house Mary had built after finally obtaining her widow's pension after years of trying. Jackson's body was never recovered and he was only with the regiment about 3 weeks before being captured. Thanks again,
Glenn

A fellow Whitehorn researcher has brought the Blakley-Whitehorn connection to my attention. It is far from definite, but it is possible that Mary Ann Whitehorn was the daughter of James Whitehorn of Washington Co., Tennessee by his first wife. We believe that James was from the Sussex Co., Va. group of Whitehorns of which we are descendents. The 1840 census for washington county shows that James and his wife had children, but by 1850 only his son Joseph appears in the household from his first marriage. This would make sense in Mary Ann's case if she married in 1849. We are not certain who James' first wife was, but he probably married her in sussex county and brought her to Tennessee. His second wife, whom he married in 1842, was Mary Foster, by whom he had a large family. Mary Foster Whitehorn died at Jonesboro in 1896.

1868 Death of George Whitehorn, born 1779

This might interest someone--not related.

The West Tennesseean
Huntingdon, Carroll County

Oct. 15, 1868

An Old Patriot Gone
Died in this county on the 7th, GEORGE WHITEHORN in the 89th year of his age. Deceased was born in Sussex county, Virginia on the 17th day of October 1779. Removed to Tennessee in April 1818, and died as above stated, lacking only ten days of having completed his 89th year and having been for more than 30 years, a citizen of Tennessee. During the War of 1812, he gallantly bore arms in defence of his county, and during the most recent civil convulsions in this country, he remained true to cause of Union and lost no opportunity to speak a word of encouragement to its supporters. He leaves a family of descendants consisting of five children, 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
You may have this info by now, but...Joseph Whitehorn was a son of Philemon Whitehorn and Susanna Simmons of Sussex Co., VA. I have Martha Northcross as a daughter of Benjamin Green Northcross and Sally Wilkes Bell. I have not been able to trace Frederick or Henrietta, but son Joseph W. Whitehorn married a Lucy M. and had six children, one of which was Robert D. Whitehorn whom I have traced to Norfolk, Va where he died in 1923.

David L. G. Whitehorn, 31 Mar 1822, married Naomi Ann Dees on 5 Feb 1846 in Jefferson Co., Illinois according to the George Whitehorn family Bible. They had two children before he died 8 Jun 1849 at the age of 27. The children were Sarah C. and George J. I speculate that the L. G. in David's name is Lawrence Gresham or Grissum.

My information is that David Whitehorn was born in TN not OH, the son of George and Jackey Whitehorn of Carroll Co TN. David did die a couple of years after he married Naomi Dees in Jefferson Co IL and Naomi remarried Taylor soon afterwards. The first marriage produced two children, Sarah and George.

yes, bob mitchell is a fellow whitehorn researcher with whom I am in close contact. On the 1840 census for Washington Co, James and his first wife appear to have had three daughters and a son. There was a 20+ male who was probably a relative or farm hand and a 50+ female who was probably a mother of either spouse. bob has reconstructed the childen to include Mary Ann (b.1830-1835) (later wife of Jackson Blakley) as the eldest child, an unknown female b. 1835-1840, Martha Ellen (b. 1835-1840) (later wife of unknown Vaughn and mother of James C. and W. David Vaughn of Jonesboro) and Joseph (b.1835-1840) (who appears in his father's household in 1850)
James Whitehorn's connection to Sussex Co. seems probable, but not yet proven. Nonetheless, in 1830, Sussex Co.land records show that James L. Whitehorn sold land to one Joseph Whitehorne. In 1832, the same James L. Whitehorn is married to Rebecca Ann Underwood, dau of Peterson Underwood. James Whitehorn then seems to disappear from Sussex County. It is tempting to believe that James took his yourng wife to Jonesboro before or after the birth of Mary Ann and that his wife, Rebecca, after four children, died after the 1840 census at Jonesboro. In 1842, James remarried to Martha Foster, dau of Thomas Foster, of Jonesboro. Access to early land records, a will, or other washington co. documents might reveal the names of James Whitehorn's first wife and children which could resolve whether this is the right direction or not. As Whitehorn researchers, we are most interested in resolving just where James Whitehorn fit into the picture.

haven't cruised the boards for awhile, but i am also trying to track down photos. the person you spoke with is jo'an whitehorn boggs, daughter of dr. john clare whitehorn, formerly head of psychiatry at johns hopkins university. jo'an's grandfather was geneo worth whitehorn, the eldest son of john warren and ann eliza wheeler whitehorn. geneo worth was alice whitehorn hart's older brother.
i have recently been back in contact with robert m. whitehorn of ogden, utah who is the grandson of geneo worth's younger brother, austin monroe whitehorn, through Homer Austin Whitehorn When john warren whitehorn died at lincoln, nebraska on 23 sep 1905, he was living in the household of austin monroe whitehorn. i suppose when he died austin monroe inherited any photos that john warren might have had in his possession. Donald Whitehorn, now deceased, and formerly resident in norfolk, nebraska was a grandson of austin monroe through dwight oliver whitehorn. years ago, donald seemed to have access to a family bible which had been in the possession of john warren whitehorn. this makes me suspect that don whitehorn's family may have photos that may have accompanied the bible and i would like to know who inherited these from don. robert m. whitehorn has a copy of birth and death records from that family bible, but not the original bible. he has a photo of austin monroe's family and, who knows, he may have photos of austin monroe's siblings, perhaps including alice. he does not recall ever having seen a photo of john warren, however - which is the big prize as far as i am concerned. hope all is well in the jackson household. -- tony.

Hi Pam I was really excited to here from you. I was just wanting to know if you had gotten any more information on Mary Whitehorn. I don't know if you wanted to know anything about Jackson Blakley but my dad was telling me that he was killed in the civil war and that his body was never recovered. My dad and mom has lived in the Rock Springs area all their life. My dad grew up in that area where the Hite cemetery is. I told my dad that I wrote to you and that you replied and you said you were going to try to e-mail me some information on Mary Whitehorn and he was excited about that because he has been searching his family for a while. He asked me were you were from and I told him I didn't know. Me and my family is from upper East Tennessee. Do you have a E-mail address? and if you don't want to give that information out I understand but what state are you from? and are you related to Mary Whitehorn? and if so how? well I guess I better go but if you have any information that you would like to share please write back soon and if I find any I will let you know. Thanks Glenn Land Jr.
