Hello, Grant --
We share a grandfather ... I'm Warren's daughter, Pauline. I've just begun to search for family info and your message is the first I've encountered. I'm assuming that your mom and dad were my Uncle Grant and Aunt Rufine...yes?

Have you uncovered any family history since you first posted your request for info? I'd love to know. Whatever I find (if anything), I'll forward to you, as well.

Thanks
I am reading these posts with interest. My GGgrandfather was William Holman Whitehouse (b 1843) of Spencer County and Vanderburgh county, Indiana. He is shown as child of Cornelius Whitehouse and Nancy Belgrave (Blagrave?) of Mercer county KY. I'm not sure where to go beyond this Cornelius. But it sounds like this group is likely. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - BW

Whitehouse/Penner double connection

I am seeking information on the Whitehouse/Penner double connection. I understand that William J. Whitehouse b.1837 KY and Mary Isabelle Risley b.1841 had a daughter named Mary Ellen. Mary Ellen married James Earl Penner on Sept. 23, 1882.

Now, James Earl had a baby brother named William Ellit Penner b.1868 IN. William Ellit also married a Whitehouse. She was called Ollie. (My direct line is through William Ellit Penner and Ollie Whitehouse). Since siblings often married siblings of another family, I thought perhaps Mary Ellen and Ollie were sisters (or perhaps cousins). However, I cannot find "Ollie" listed with Mary Ellen. I know that Ollie was born in IN. Her younger children with William Ellit Penner were born in Arkansas. After William Ellit Penner's death, Ollie married William "Billy" T. Wells and had more children.

I would appreciate any insight that you may have on this situation.

He enlisted in Capt Edward Berry's Company of KY Militia in 1814 (Could this be your Cornelius??)

Not in the 1850 Census. My problem is the weak link I have with James and Sarah prior to 1783. The track you mention, ENG, KY, IL is the track of James'son Thomas (b. c1775/1778, VA). In 1800 Living in mercer Co., KY in 1810 living in Caldwell Co., KY, 1820, living in Mercer co.,KY, in 1830 living in Spencer Co.,IN, In 1840 Living in Spencer co., IN, Died 16 Nar 1847, Spencer co., IN.

I have Tracked a James Whitehouse (b. circa 1760) with whom I have connected a Sarah (b.1760) leaving Fauquier, VA in 1783 with "Simon Kenton" group of 40, settling in Mercer Co., KY. The Children were: Thomas(b.1775/1778), Elizabeth (b,1779), Cornelius (b.1781), Mary, (b. 31 dec 1784), James(b.1787)...etc(9 more). The James (b.c1760)has been connected(via tea leaves) to James Whitehouse, Middlesex England (with sentence of death)reprieves and sent to Virginia in 1776 (age 16) then a gap until 1783. If you have good sources of him and his parents, I pretty well have his descendants into the early 1900s. Perhaps we can compare notes. My interest lies in accurately making Family trees (on Disc), then sending them to the Allen Co. IN library(second largest genealogical library in U.S) who Binds them and give me a free copy plus addition copies can be obtained for $100 each that I purchase for other libraries. But for me, documentation is name of the game.

Yes, it looks like we've got the same James Smith in our tree.

I'm sure the Whitehouse connection is coincidence in that part of the tree as there doesn't seen to be a connection to William and Lavinia.

Andrea

Anne,
I dont have much concret evidence on William Whitehouse apart from being born about 1814/5 at Oldbury, too early for a reference number. I know he died between the 1861 and 1871 Censuses as Hannah was noted as a widow on the latter. I suspect he died in Mkt Harborough Dec 1866 aged 53 (7a 10) as this town is on the canal the family boats used. I will check this in the parish registers. I have plenty of information on Hannah, especially her life after William and her second marriage. Living only 4 miles from
Mountsorrel, 10 from Loughborough and 5 from the Leicestershire Record Office I have easy access to much of the siblings of David etc. and have recorder much of it.
Frank.
frank.johnson93@ntlworld.com

Apparently after my father died in 1949 we were persona non grata with his family so no details thereof.
I have census info for 1901 back to 1851, where John was shown as living with Father Joseph and mother Maria in Bilston. This shows John as being from Redbrook Glos, but I'm stuck.
My living in Australia doesn't help either!
Regards Jone

Hi, just happened to see your post, I don't know what info you have found by now, but I am a Whitehouse, descended from a William Whitehouse b. 1781, of Roberts Island, Yarmouth Cty. Nova Scotia, CA. Many Whitehouse descendents have been searching for years for his parentage, as he was adopted by the family of Jeremiah Frost and raised in Argyle, NS....there is some indication his real father was a Joseph, or another William, married to Hannah,.... they left either NH or ME, for Nova Scotia after the Revolution with other Loyalists. The first by the name of Whitehouse was a Thomas Whitehouse from England who settled in Dover, NH, mid-1600's, our William born circa 1781 is probably descended from him. If your Whitehouses are from NH, there is probably some connection there as well. Any information you'd like to share is appreciated....email me at sabrakatz@hotmail.com. Thanks, JW

He had 14 children, I am descended from his son Benjamin Whitehouse, his grandson Elihu Whitehouse, his great grandson Arthur Jackson Whitehouse, and Williams gr-gr-grandson, my father, Arthur Wallace Whitehouse. (I'm not a genealogist, but I have run across the names of Joseph and Savilla MacKinnon somewhere while looking for family info....was Joseph son or grandson of William Whitehouse?)
If you have either a marriage or a census entry for a Whitehouse and it's 1881 or earlier, you are welcome to register yourself with me. I have more than 470 registered correspondents with family trees and operate a free service of linking up distant relatives with each other and giving personalised help with family tree enquiries for this name. See my website at www.users.waitrose.com/~whitehouse fhc.

I despair sometimes when I see newcomers flailing around on this website and elsewhere on the web, looking for help or connections, sometimes posting messages which lack any dates. I don't reply to such messages as the authors are probably going to waste my time.

The first step in genealogical research is always to seek living relatives and extract information from them. The second step is to find out whether it's been done before and the best source for this is the Guild of One-Name Studies (www.one-name.org). Anyone who does this for Whitehouse will find me.

Keith
WHITEHOUSE FAMILY HISTORY CENTRE

Jone,
Please contact me via my website and send me a scan of the marriage certificate of Walter Whitehouse - Lucy Jane Beck.
I presume that you have looked at the 1911 census entry and therefore have an age for Walter. Please also send me a scan of that. I will then see what I can do.
Keith
WHITEHOUSE FAMILY HISTORY CENTRE
www.users.waitrose.com/~whitehousefhc

Re: Mary Theresa Whitehouse from Birmingham - father John

Difficult, this. The first problem here is to identify her correct forenames, which would not necessarily be Mary Theresa in its entirety (could be Mary or Theresa, for example). I suggest that you search street directories of the time (Kelly or Post Office) and note down all the John Whitehouses with their addresses. Then go to the electoral rolls and look up every address until you find one with Mary Theresa (or variant thereon) Whitehouse (I assume she was still single in 1946/7). With confidence in the name(s), it might then be possible to do a meaningful search for a birth registration around 1920. Remember that people (esp. women) often understated their ages, so it would not be out of the question (unless you know better) for her to be the Theresa Whitehouse, whose birth is registered in 1917 in Aston RD. Of course, you could simply take a punt on this anyway, but it is more likely (unless you know better) that she was born Mary and then added Theresa, than the other way around. You say that what you put on Rootsweb is "all we know". I bet that's not strictly true. How do you know that she was born around 1920, for example ? Maybe you have information about her age from a death, marriage, burial etc. Maybe you know what forename she used. Try setting down all you REALLY know (and I mean ALL).
Kind regards, Keith
WHITEHOUSE FAMILY HISTORY CENTRE
