Hi' I have pulled out the Whitemarsh file, and look forward to talking to you. I am very interested in your Smith family. When I was in Omor, WI October 2007, we went to the Omor Cemetery, there was a tombstone with some of the Smiths names on it, I knew I should have taken a picture. I took lots of pictures of the Whitemarsh stones. We also went and seen the Whitemarsh Homestead, very nice place. My husband also has Smiths in his line, his GG Grandfather, Willis Smith and his brother Ellison Smith were in Omor WI. We have always wondered what brought them to WI, as their parents lived in OH. Anyway please contact me at junebug18@btc-bci.com. We have lots to talk about. One of the Whitemarshes married a Turner.

juneke

I just discovered that I may be related to the Whitemarsh family. My great great grandmother had two daughters that she could not keep. I know where one of them went, but could never find her sister until yesterday.

I was going through an old Seymour newspaper that stated Mrs. Ally Whitmarsh returned home to Omro after a visit with her mother Mrs. Charley Smith.

I have an old picture of a boy L Whitemarsh and this makes me believe that this is my grandmother's half cousin.

I found them on the 1900 census Alley and Alice and son Levi.

I would love to compare notes to make sure this is our long lost great aunt Alice Smith.

Barb
"shaffygirlus65-famtree@yahoo.com"

Amber:

I would like to talk to you, my husband, Roger also descends from the Whitemarsh family. He descends from William, then his daughter, Zipporah. Zipporah married Leroy Turner in Green, Chenago, New York, January 9, 1849.
Levi is Zipporah's brother. They moved to WI, along with some of the Whitemarsh families. I went to WI last year, I have pictures of their tombstones, Omor Cemetery, WI. I also took a picture of the Whitemarsh homestead. What a beautiful area where they all lived.

I have pictures of Zipporah, Mulberry, her brother, and some of the other Whitemarshes.

Hope to hear from you.

Juneke

First I want to thank everyone who put messages on about the Whitemarsh Family. The information is wonderful.

My husband Roger Kennedy descends from:

Ezra Whitemarsh
then his son, Mulberry Whitmarsh
then his daughter, Zipporah Whitemarsh born 1831,
Zipporah T. Whitemarsh married Laroy Turner, in WI., Laroy was born August 2, 1829, in New York.
My husband descends from their daughter Edna A. Turner, born 1860 in WI, she married Willis G. Smith, he was born 1857, OH, they married June 11, 1879 in Mukwa, Waupaca Co., WI.
Then their daughter, Iva B. Smith, born February 20, 1884 in Oskosh, Winnebago Co., WI. Iva married Martin Kennedy, April 21, 1900, in Almena, Van Buren Co., MI. Iva is my husband's grandmother. I do not know when Edna died, and I cannot find out what happened to Willis G. Smith. I also do not know how or why Iva ended up in MI? I have a picture of Zippora T. Whitemarsh, she is a very pretty lady, looks like she has blue eyes. Does anyone have pictures they would be willing to share?

June Kennedy
was browsing through these messages and found I am related through Levi Whitemarsh m. to Sarah Buck, their daughter Lucina is my gr- gr- grandmother. I am just learning this side of my father's family because I just met him a day or two ago. Anyway, I would love any info and would be willing to share anything I may get or have. I was reading before and noticed that quite a few Whitemarshes live in Washington, as do I, along with my father's family. I am hoping to get a reply because I noticed that there have not been very many messages since 2001! Thanks,
Amber
p.s. this is a duplicate of the other message I posted on this site because I put post new instead of reply.

The John Whitmarsh I talked about was believed to be the orginal whitmarsh in America he came with his wife Alice in 1624 with some of his children. I'm from upstate Ny and my Aunts and Uncles live near Binghamton so perhaps they know of some of the Whitmarshes you named--(I hope I'm not getting a few post mixed up--as a few folks have written and I just read all the post) The folks in Greene are from my line while the Binghamton folks are distant cousins. I'm about the go on vacaton so I will come back and re-read your post when I return. my email is now boofer1223@ivillage.com if you'd like to write.

More Family info.

Tyler,
First of all I hope you are not angry at me looking at your message to John (I noticed it because someone had written me) Anyway I felt like a mail robber all night----I'm sure John will have fun teasing me about it when his computer is up again. Really I just wanted to make sure you did'n feel he was ignoring your letter. I guess I'm doing my favorite thing rambing on and on and on .

Anyway I was looking at the info my Aunt gave me and wondering if your grandfather was Ward Abiathar Whitemarsh born in 1893 and did he have a sister H. Lou Whitemarsh born in 1892 who married Victor E. Nelson and a brother Ross Palmer Whitemarsh who married Rebecca B. Gumbes, and were they the children of Charles Whitemarsh and Edith E. Sheldon and was Charles Whitemarsh the son of Abiathar Whitemarsh who married Clara C. Beals?????????????? If so someone in your family had been in contact with my Aunt Ellen some years ago. She gave me a copy of the correspondance, but I must have misplaced it while putting the info on my computer. I can always ask her for another copy next time I visit her.

Abiathar Whitemarsh was the child of Mulbery Whitmarsh and Lusina Webb (whose name was changed to Whitemarsh while in Wisconsin) Mulberry also had a son named Levi which is where John's line comes from. He also had a son named Luther who stayed in Greene,NY and retained the name Whitmarsh which is where my line is from. He also had a son named Mulberry Jr. My Aunt told me on a recent visit that this branch is still in contact with her and live in Wisconsin.

John

I am not sure of what assistance I may be to your search for info on you grand father Ralph. However, I am in Washington and so are most of the other Whitemarsh "clan". My grandfather's name was Ward Whitemarsh and my father's was Patrick, he has a brother named Rick. My father passed away on May 1 1995 and my grandfather died in 1987. I am 24 years old and live in Tacoma WA. I am in contact with my grandmother and two Aunts who are also Whitemarsh's. I may be able to do some asking about your grandfather and see what the rest of the family comes up with. Who knows, you and I are more than likely related. There aren't too many Whitemarshes that I've met that I am not related to. Keep in contact with me and I'll do some digging for you. I have been very fascinated with my family heritage since I lost my father, so we may be of some help to each other.

Best regards

Tyler Anthony Whitemarsh

Hi Cousin,
I posted another letter earlier today called Levi's letter and more, but I forgot to include Levi's letter ----I just included the more--you'll find it on the message board. I'll try to send Levi's complete letter to Luther after church tomorrow. Tell your MOM, Aunt Jean, and Uncle Bruce I said hello. I live in Watertown, NY as do my Mom and Dad, Howard and Marcia Whitmarsh. My Uncle Milo still lives on the family farm. Uncle Harold, Uncle Elmer, Aunt Ellen, and Uncle Harlold still live in the Greene area. Uncle Bob lives in Ithaca, NY. Well my husband is sleepy so I'll write more later. My sons are excited to hear about new-found cousins.

It's a Match

Hi John,
It's a match. I'm sorry I made a typeo last time, Levi was born Oct. 5,1826 in Greene, NY. We have his date of death as Nov.16,1898
He married Sarah F. Buck of Indiana born Dec. 15, 1836 (perhaps I accidently looked at her date yesterday when I said 1836, my Aunt Ellen has them in a graph and they are right next to each other)We have her date of death listed as June 22, 1900. They were married July 9,1854 in Omro Wisconsin, Winnebago County. Their children as you said were Eleanor, Milo, irena(I noticed you have a differnt spelling for her but the birthdate lines up with what you said) Lucina, Orley, Gertrude, and Grace. My Aunt received this info from the line of Levi's daughter Lucina Whitemarsh. All the dates given by Lucina Whitemarshes decentants match yours for Levi's children. My Uncle Mike, his real name is Milo, but we call him Uncle Mike still lives on the Greene farm. My great-grandfather Luther and grandfather Floyd are said to have visited Wisconsin relatives. It's interesting to still see similar names like Milo, I also had an Uncle Guy. I haven't called my Aunt Ellen yet, but I'm sure she'll be thrilled she has gathered much info. that I'd be glad to share.

He was born on October 5, 1826. I do not know where.
There's also:
Sarah Frances (buck) 12/15/1836
Eleanor 7/10/1856
Milo C. (my great grandfather) 7/6/1859
Irma 1/14/1862
Orley J. 3/11/1872
Lucina E. 4/11/1866
Gertrude J. 7/7/1880
Grace A. 9/2/1882
Milo's Children are as follows:
Myrtle 1/30/1883
Guy 1/23/1884
George W. 8/29/1885
Fred E. 2/9/1887
Clyde A. 4/11/?
Leo H. 6/5/1890
Lillian 4/20/1894
Elsie 12/26/1896
Ralph (my Mom's Dad) 7/8/1899
If any of these names and birthdates coincide with some in your records, do let me know.
Thanks for the info.

Hi John,
Great to hear from you. I went through some more family info that my Aunt Ellen has given me. Mulberry and Lusina's other children (besides Luther) were Laura, Clarissa, Levi, Abiathar, Mulberry, Ezra (he died in early childhood) Zipporah, Louisa, and Lusina. My cousin found a letter dated 1852 in the Greene family farm in which Levi writes to his brother Luther about Wisconsin. I noticed you talked of Oshkosh Wisconsin..I'll quote from a copy of the letter. "We live south of Fox River about 1/2 mile and 4-1/2 from Omra, 4-1/2 from Algoma, 6 to Oshkosh, 25 to Fondulac. Oshkosh is the the county seat. It lies directly east of us. It is situated on Fox River just before it strikes Lake Winnebago." The letter of course is in fragil condition and my cousin may have made some spelling errors trying to read it. It was postmarked Omra, Wisc. 1852. Aunt Ellen received some info from some desendants of Mulberry's son Abiathar and what could be interesting for you about him is he is said to have lived in Olympia, Washington. His children were Alice, Charles, William and Edgar I have no dates for them, but Albiathar was botn Aug. 23, 1838. I also have a list of Levi's children if your interested--No list available for Mulberry Jr.

That's great info. We have thought that a Zacheriah was Ezra's father (Ezra also had a brother by that name as recorded in the history of Greene, NY and Ezra's army records) however did not have the total info to confirm that---and we didn't know anythings about Ezra's other brothers. We knew that his birth place was Oblong, NY just as you stated. I will ask my aunts and uncles what they know about the Binghamton Whitmarshes. As I have said the ones my Aunt Ellen told me about are from Ezra's son Martin's line---but she may know more that I don't know about. Also I will check the cemetary in Smithville Flats to see who those other Whitmarshes are that no one in my family could identify---Perhaps it will help. I can perhaps get the name and number of the Greene , and Smithville, and Binghamton (SP) historians to see if they have any info, that would provide a link to Samuel. P.S. I'd love to get a hold of that Whitmarsh book---We know we trace to the first settler John Whitmarsh and Ezra's parents were the piece that kept us wondering. It seems that we were correct about our guess about his father being Zachariah.

Hi,
I've never heard of Samuel Whitmarsh---At least I don't think I have. There are some Whitmarshes buried in the Smithville Flats Cemetary (near Greene, NY) that we couldn't identify. I'll have to look the next time I visit my uncles and see if he is one of them. I will try to look into this as we had no knowledge of Ezra's uncle. We do know that Ezra had a brother whose name is Zacheriah and this has given clues to Ezra's parents. I thought the Binghamton Whitmarshes mainly came from Ezra's son Martin---My line comes from Ezra's son Mulberry. This is exciting news and I will ask my Aunts and Uncles if they know anything about it.

Ruth

Thanks Ruth for the fascinating information. I appreciate it a lot. Have you ever read the book published on the Whitmarsh family by Newton Whitmarsh Bates? It was published in 1913 and is called John Whitmarsh of Weymouth, Massachusetts.

trying to locate bible

I am trying to locate a family bible last known to be in the possesion of an Essie Proffit in Omro WI. Ruth Whitmarsh married a Jacob Morenus. This bible list the birth records of the Samuel Whitmarsh Children from Otsego/Deleware CO NY. The bible was found by a Helen Crowley of Binghamton NY who was a decsendant of Samuel Whitmarsh. I believe that when Essie died in 1988 it possibly went to another family member. Essie I believe is a WI Whitemarsh. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of this bible can contact me at Mrsplumbob3@cs.com. All I need is copies of the entries, not the whole bible. Thanks
