hi. I think we may be distant cousins...not sure where your father fits in...but my family is like this starting with Peter Weidners grandson Captain Henry Whitener (1752-1811) ->Benjamin Whitener (1803-1852) ->Elizabeth Whitener (1826-1893) married Alfred Hawn ->Josephine Hawn (1859-1937) married William Mouser (1854-1895)(from Michael Mousers line that settled where Captain Whitener settled) ->Barbara "Josie" Josephine Mouser (1894-1981) who is my Dads grandmother. So I think we are cousins somewhere...I jsut started my quest here last week and have become addicted...and very excited to be able to find so much information. I have asked my Grandma (Pauline Goodson [Kingma])why my great grandparents (her inlaws) moved from Missouri to Colorado...and she doesn't know. Grandma Josie also had a sister Nora who married my great grandfathers brother Joel or Joda Goodson. And they were living in Colorado also. But Nora is buried in Missouri. I have the program from the funeral. She did say that she and my Grandpa Smokie (Lowell Goodson) went back twice to Missouri for family reunions but that there were so many people she doesn't remember names or much else. I would love to find pictures...so maybe we can help each other.

I have just begun my family tree research and was very pleasantly surprised how much information I have been able to find on my fathers side. He was killed when I was two in an accident at his work. My sister and I were never told much about our family on his side and had I known then what I do now I would have asked my great grandfather (William Francis Goodson) and my great grandmother (Barbara "Josie" Josephine Goodson [Mouser] TONS of questions. I am able to track Grandma Josie's family to both the Whitener and Mouser families and to the Hahn's of course. There have been past posts on these familys but if anyone is out there who is still active on this site I would love to hear from you. I have quite a few pictures of my great grandparents that I will scan and post but nothing further than that. So please reply or email me. Thank you!!

Those 1880 and 1860 Census can be confusing. Here's my understand. Heinrich (Henry) and his brother Michael (Middle Name) Settled in Catawaba and Lincoln County NC. They had a son Daniel who had a son Daniel Jr. Who is probably the person your referring to. Daniel has been carried down through the Whiteners, and they had some many kids its confusing. What you need to know is that George Whitener had brothers and that side of the family ended up in Mecklenburg Co, NC and Union Co., SC. Mainly Guy Vanderbilt Whitener and his father Martin Luther Whitener (after the Lutheran priest).

I am the grandfather of Earl Whitener whose father was William McKinley "Mick" Whitener of Lincoln County, NC. Mick died when Earl was very young of TB. When that happened his wife "Evie Eunice Crowder" moved back from Gaston Co, NC to Lincoln Co. and lost touch with the Whiteners. Years later my grandfather Earl went looking for his grandfather Bob Whitener. Bob apparently had some money and connection with Schwartz Steel in Gaston Co. Grandaddy said he found only his jacket in a Diner one day, and then Bob disappeared and is though murdered.

I cannot for the life of me find anything with Robert or Bob Whitener on it, on any file. I have a picture of his wife Tincey or Tincy Richardson, but cannot find anything on her either. If anyone can help please let me know! aaronmwhitener@hotmail.com

I have read with interest the messages about Elijah and Susan Whitener. My granmother Edith Irene Whitener Christie was their daughter. Grandma came to Olathe, Colorado by train from Marquand Mo. in 1908. She married Lloyd D. Christie from Olathe, Colorado in about 1911. Grandma always told the story of her mother(Susan Ann) burned to death when her long skirt caught fire from an outside firepit while rendering lard. Grandma would have been thirteen years old at the time of her Mother's death. Would like to correspond with you and exchange information. Also was told Susan was full blood American Indian.

william Whitener & Margaret Cornelia Haynes NATIVE AMERICAN???

Several years ago I found some information on the internet which suggested the wife of William Whitener of Navaro County Texas had a wife who was native American. I believe the information came from Coy Whitener. Her name was Margaret Cornelia Haynes, and it was mentioned William had shot and killed an Indian agent in Arkansas and fled to Texas leaving his wife at an Indian Reservation. I have done research on the HAYNES family and cannot find the native American connection. I do not believe it was on the Haynes side of the family unless there was an adoption involved. Anyway, the certified Texas Death Certificate for Margie Cornelia Whitner states she was white and her parents were Joe Haynes and Delan Shaw. Coy also mentioned that the children of Willilam and Margie applied for Indian reservation land. How correct is this information regarding the Indian ancestry and which side of the family did it come from?

I just found out Davidson Whitener is part of our tree. He is Phillip's brother who is my ggg grampa on my dad's side. My grandmother is Alma Strother, her mom was Ethel (Whitener) Strother, her dad was William E. Whitener, his dad was Phillip B Whitener, whose dad was John Johannes D Whitener, whose dad was Daniel Whitener. Did I go far enough back. I would be interested in matching up what we have with your tree. You can contact me at almamoss@sbcglobal.net.

Re: John T. Whitener born 1842 Lumpkin County Ga.

There is a lot of confusion because there were two John T's who were cousins.

John T of Lumpkin Co married Nancy Anderson, Bettye Guy & Josie ________. He is listed as a gold miner in the 1870 Lumpkin Co Census.
His parents are Jacob Whitener-Keziah Landrum.
Grandparents John D Whitener--Magdalena "Molly" Mull Greatgrandparents Daniel Whitener--Mary Elizabeth Wilfong

John T of Gilmer Co was married to Martha Odom and is listed as a farmer in the 1870 Gilmer CO Census.

I can't definitively prove which John T was the Confederate soldier, but my John T is buried in Sautee & has the Confederate Cross on his tombstone. Our oral history also states that he was a Sergeant in the Civil War. I've only been able to find one record on John T as a soldier & it matches John T of Lumpkin.

Both lines join up to the Revolutionary war line which includes: Daniel, Heinrich "Henry", Abraham & George Wilfong

This will be a topic of debate unless someone can dig up some more clues. I'll post if I find out anything else.
Denise

John T was my great grandfather. He was married to 1)Nancy Anderson 2)Bettye Guy 3) Josie______

According to my grandfather's memory, he died closer to 1910. He had 15 children:Clarence "David", Susan, Martha, William "Bill", Emma, Eva, John Lester,
Charlie, Franch, Ed, Edna Mae, Tom, Fannie, Ella "Ellie', Maggie

You can find him in the Census records for Lumpkin Co, GA for 1870, 1880, & 1910. 1890 burned, we can't find 1900.

His father was Jacob Whitener-mother Keziah Landrum.

I've got the line back to the 1700s if you are interested, contact me.
Thanks, Denise

Hi Denise,
John Terrel was my great grandfather as well...he married Josephine "Josie" Nix in 1900. Their children; Fannie (my grandmother) born 16 Sept 1901, Ellie born Sept 20 1903, Maggie born 11 Jul 1907, Edward Clarence born 27 Aug 1911, and Thomas Hooper born 20 Jun 1914. I had knowledge of previous marriage to Betty Guy and have info on their children, but was unaware of marriage prior to that to Nancy Anderson. He died in 1915 just before Tom was 1 year old. I would be very happy if you would share the info you have on the line with me...
Thanks, Ted

I believe we are probably connected. Haywood County is in North Carolina, yes?

I descend from Abel Adolphus Whitener, b. 1826 Lincoln Co. NC, >> his son James Adolphus "Dolph" Whitener, b. 1851 Catawba Co. NC, >> James' daughter Lualda, b. 1878 Catawba Co., NC.

When was your Dolph Whitener born? Do you know his parents?

Best,
Lorraine Latta
