Andrew C. Whitesel
Andrew C. Whitesel, 77, Tipton, died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 2, 1998, at Altoona Hospital, following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Petersburg, Huntingdon County, the son of the late Herbert L. and Mary A. (Saner) Whitesel. He married Dorothy I. McClellan Oct. 19, 1941, in Hagerstown, Md.
Mr. Whitesel was a member of Tipton United Methodist Church.
He retired as a freight train brakeman/conductor from Conrail in 1981, with 40 years of service.
Mr. Whitesel was a 1940 graduate of Huntingdon High School.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a seaman first class and a gunner aboard the T. George Washington, the Creddock and several other ships.
Mr. Whitesel was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and the United Transportation Union.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Cheryl L. Hinkle of Tipton; a son, Gary A. of Tipton; two sisters: Dorothy L. Kyle of Huntingdon and Susan L. of Polk; three brothers: Richard H. and Wayne A., both of Huntingdon, and Jay B. of Mount Union; and two grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
WHITESEL—The funeral of Andrew C. Whitesel of Box 119 Tyrone RD 5, Tipton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, by the Rev. Robert J. Kennedy. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Also surviving are a son-in-law, Timothy C. Hinkle; daughter-in-law: Cathy E. Whitesel; and grandsons: Andrew C. Hinkle and Nicholas A. Whitesel. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Tipton United Methodist Church, Tipton, Pa. 16684.
