My G.G, Grandfather was Richard born 1816 and married Euphemia Archbold.Had several children 9 all told,Jane born 1843 married Isaac Moralee, they had more children,the only girl and the youngest born in 1881 was Euphemia Whitfield, then marries my grandfather William Joyce,about 1901. Had five children, only three girls survived, The middle Mary born 1904, was my lovely Mother. any help to anyone Regards ,Joyce

I should have added the following:

Henry Whitfield's parents were
Noel Graham Whitfield 1865 - 1909, and
Laura Lavinia Watkins 1865 - 1933.

Leslie Butler O'Hallorans parents were
Austin Butler O'Halloran 1859 - ????, and
Sidella Mary Yorath Brandon 1868 - ????.

I have recently dicscovered that Henry Whitfield was in the 17th Lancers during WW1 and I would like to get info about his military career and also what happened to him after the war. Did he marry and have children, where did he live, etc ?

As for Leslie Butler O'Halloran I have discovered that he was in the 1901 census as having the surname Halloran (transcription errors). I haven't found any thing about him after that as I would like to know about any military service he did and also if he married and had kids etc ?

I do not know exactly when Martha died. But...John Whitfield, Martha and Marie L., daughter, are listed in the 1920 Haralson Co., GA census. And...John is listed as widowed on his 1926 death certificate.

Thank you for posting the Whitfield information. I do not have the marriage dates for John Albert Whitfield, but show only two marriages for him. The first was to Sarah Jane Akins and second to Martha Toler Carmichael. Might you provide the sources for another marriage and marriage dates for him?

I think Mamie was Martha's daughter born prior to her marrying John Albert Whitfield. My records show Ida, Grace, Lucy and John Thomas were children of John A. Whitfield and Sarah Jane Akins.

Information about two Great Uncles

Can any one help me ?

I have two Great Uncles who I'm trying to trace but all I have is their dates and places of birth e.g.

Henry Walter Whitfield, born 8th Dec 1888 in Liverpool, Lancs, and
Leslie Butler O'Halloran, born 17th Oct 1888 in Islington, Middlesex.

I have only their birth certificates as I would like to get as much info about them and their descendants. I also assume that they saw military service during WW1.

John Albert Whitfield was married three time. I don't know who is first wife was. There were two children born to this union Ida & Grace Whitfield. His second wife was Sarah Jane Akins married on 16 Sep 1877 Polk Co., GA, Two children born to this union Lucy & John Thomas Whitfield. His third marriage to Martha Charmichael on 22 May 1887 Haralson Co., GA.

I do not know anything about your Whitfield family, but I do know that after Sarah Jane Akins Whitfield died, John married Martha Toler Carmichael, a widow. They were living in Waldroop, Haralson County, Georgia at the time of the 1900 census with children Mamie (born September 1877), Lucy (born August 1879), and John T. (born March 1884.) None of these children were Martha's except, perhaps, Mamie, but I don't believe she was Martha's.

I have no further information.

I Lewis Whitfield being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of
life and being _______ of disposing of my estate do therefore make, ordain ________,
and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner following.

First I will and direct that my just debts and funeral and other expenses of my last _________ be first paid out of my estate.

Second I give devise and bequeath unto my son, Peter Whitfield one mare and one _________
wagon and all my plantation tools. This specified devise I make to him in addition to the pro-
visions hereinafter made for him.

Third I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Martha Whitfield one mare. This specified
devise I make in addition to the provisions hereinafter made for her.

Fourth I give devise and bequeath all my stock of cattle, hogs, and sheep, also all my house-
hold and kitchen furniture, to my son Peter Whitfield and daughters Martha and Rebecca
Whitfield.

Fifth I give devise and bequeath unto my sons Lewis, Benjamin and Peter Whitfield and to my
daughter Martha Whitfield the tract of land whereon I now live containing four hundred and
sixty eight acres or less to be divided amongst them as follows. To my son Lewis Whitfield
that part of my tract being west of ______ creek and all the land on this tract lying west of a
straight line running from an ash corner at the juncture of ______ branch and ______ creek
near the ford to a dead pine on the south line of my tract which corner divides lands between
Samuel Brown and Jordan Burns on my line. The part that I thus give to my son Lewis
contains I suppose about one hundred acres. It adjoins lands of S. Brown and __________.
My son Benjamin Whitfield I give devise and bequeath all that part of my tract of land lying
north of a straight line commencing on a pine tree which stands on the east line of my tract
land which line divides my land from William ______ land. Said pine stands on said line at or
near the edge of the big swamp on the lower edge of said swamp about one hundred yards
above the corner of said line. This Pine may be easily ______ from the ______ ______it is all
the big pine on said line from the last corner up to the swamp. I give as before stated all the
land I own on this tract lying north of a straight line running from said pine to the dead pine on
the north line of my tract. Said dead pine being the same that is designated in my devise
alone to son Lewis Whitfield being the corner between Jordan Burns and Samuel Brown as
above stated containing I suppose about one hundred acres to my son Benjamin Whitfield as
above stated. To my son Peter Whitfield and my daughter Martha Whitfield I give devise and
bequeath all the balance of my home tract of land containing about three hundred and ninety
eight acres more or less to be held ______ by them and if either of them dies before me or
dies leaving no children or child, then the part of the one to become the property of the living
one without any distribution of same amongst any of my other heirs.

Sixth I give devise and bequeath unto my son Drury Whitfield the tract of said land whereon he
know lives in Heart County, Georgia containing one hundred acres more or less adjoining land
of Jonathan ______, John ______ and others.

Seventh I give devise and bequeath unto my son William Whitfield the tract of land where on
he now lives in Pickens District containing about one hundred acres more or less which was
______ by McCoy about twelve years ago. Adjoining lands of ______, ______ and others also
about ten acres of land of the tract whereon Jeptha Whitfield now lives, lying on the left side of
the road leading from ______ to ______, ______ and adjoining said William Whitfield's lands
on the west side. This change of the line from the one ______ by M. S. McCoy is made in
order to place William Whitfield's tract in a better shape.

Eighth I give devise and bequeath unto my son Jeptha Whitfield the tract of land whereon he
now lives and as surveyed by M. S. McCoy about twelve years ago except ______ portions of
it as lies left of the road leading from Fair Play to ______ which belongs to my son William
Whitfield as ______ aforesaid containing one hundred acres more or less and adjoining lands
of ______, J. Gibson and others.

Ninth I give devise and bequeath unto my daughters Mary Gibson and Rebecca Whitfield
jointly the tract of land whereon Jackson Gibson now lives containing one hundred acres more
or less adjoining lands of ______, John Hendrix, and others.

Tenth My son-in-law John Hendrix having purchased from me the plantation on which he lives
at a price so far below its real value, I do not feel disposed to give him further aid in the way of
land.

Eleventh I give devise and bequeath unto my son Peter Whitfield all the money or cash that I
may have hand at the time of my ______ except such potions of as may be ______ to pay my
debts and I further direct that my executor (hereafter mentioned) shall reduce all my notes and
pay over same as above stated to my son Peter and my daughter Martha and divide the same
equally between them.

of this my last will and testament as aforesaid. In testimony whereof I have hereunto sub-

I had this same situation and thought the wife just used two different names. Then I noticed that in the 1900 census the couple was shown as married less years than they should have been, and that they had no children between them even though there were several children listed. Hopefully it can be as easy for you if no one can come up with the easy answer.

We actually have "met" before, I believe your father's online name was - or is - Old Fossil. I used to love hearing from him, but I got out of touch with him some time ago. At the time, he said that Your Aunt Pansy was still living with them and your mother was not feeling well.

The one I am searching for, Luther Whitfield, was married to Kate Samuel. Their daughter Katie or Kate was the second wife of Archibald Hamilton.

They had two sons, Luther Whitfield Hamilton, the one maybe you are referring to, and my grandfather, Archibald Hamilton.

I didn't know that Luther Whitfield Hamilton lived in Fordyce for a time, how nice to get new information! Thanks!
Makes sense, since my grandfather lived there most of his life.

Your father sent me copies of the photos that are in the state capitol of Luther Whitfield Hamilton and Archibald Hamilton too.

Toni, The children of George and Mary listed in Ancestry but the 13th child is shown as a girl, so I am confused. Your father was born about 1920, is that right? I hope you can straighten me out on that.
I don't know if I am the one you remember at the cemetery or not. We were always visiting when ever we could. It is so interesting to me because I had no idea that George and Mary had that many children, and it looks like 2 sets of twin. My Mother and Daddy talked about Mary and Martha a lot and I do have some pictures of theirs, of Mary and George and Martha and Tom. I see that Leona was one of their children, was Verna one of theirs too or was she a Pinson? Anyway I would really love to have more information and it would be great if you could e-mail me direct. I'm sure we aren't talking about the same Luther Whitfield Hamilton, but that is also the name of my Great Grandfather. He lived in Fordyce Ark in the early 1900's, and passes away in Kilgore Tx in June of '40. I don't know what his father's name was, but he might have been a junior. If not, small world-them having the same name and all.

I was just browsing and saw your message. Maybe this will help, if you haven`t already solved the problem of Ann`s life prior to her marriage. I checked the 1841 census but there was no match. I did however find an Ann Whitford, born 1833 and living at Spring House, Allendale. I checked the census page and I am sure that the name is Whitfield. If I am right, then her family is as follows.

Ann " 40
Addy " 15
Ann " 8
Hannah " 5
Elinor " 1

Incidentally, I assume that you already know that Robert Brown and his family were living at Wolf Cleugh, Allendale in 1841. Robert`s elsdest Sister, Isabella married Utrick Whitfield 17/05/1849 at Allendale. If all this does not prove anything, it might at least give you food for thought.

This Emerson married Ivy Evelyn Hopps (1906-1974). Ivy was the adopted daughter of Charles Henry Hopps/Alice Elizabeth Pinnell. Emerson and Ivy were born in Grey, Ontario, Canada; however, they moved to Royal Oak, Michigan, prior to 1928 where their first son was born.

I obtained this data from Whitfield descendants. I am descended from the Hopps line.

I recently found Emerson L. Whitfield listed on "Detroit Border Crossings and Passenger and Crew Lists, 1905-1957, as follows:

Emerson L. Whitfield
Arrival Date: 04 Mar 1926
Age: 53 years 9 months
Birth Date: Abt 1872
Reason: Permanent Work

It lists "Charles Hopps" as the friend he will be visiting.

I'm trying to identify the person on this manifest -- because of the age listed, it can't be Emerson who married Ivy, but . . . ??? It appears there was an Emerson L. PRIOR to the Emerson who married Ivy . . .

I have found a Thomas Whitfield mentioned in the 1745 Jacobite rebellion.
He was paid for providing horses to transport rebels from Penrith.
He lived at Alston in Cumberland.

I just found a transcript of the marriage between Utrick Whitfield and Isabella Brown which indicates Isabella's father was named Joseph so it looks like she wasn't directly related to my Robert after all.

Thank you for the information. I had found the 1841 census entry you refer to after I had originally posted. I ordered the birth registrations for Eleanor and another daughter (Frances born in 1842) and discovered that their mother's maiden surname was Henderson which ties in nicely with my great-grandfather being named Henderson.

Over the course of my research of Robert Brown I hadn't come across a sister named Isabella. I have the 1841 census which has Robert with George, John, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob and Mary followed by Hannah and her son Robson (who later is with Robert and Ann on the 1851 and 1861 census). Can you provide some information regarding Isabella?

My grandmother , Mary f.Whitfield Sullivan born 1889 to James henry Whitfield and Candacie Hickman . James born in Alabama and Candacie born in TN.They also had a daughter named Martha. Candacie died young . James and Candacie are both buried IN Perry county Ar.Could we be related ?

Yes we are related . I am the daughter of Orel , George and Marys son.
George and Mary had 15 children , my dad being the 13th. George was born dec,1884 died in 1970 and is buried in the at Center cemetery in Center which is close to Ada, OK , MAry died in 1967 .There are just 2 of their children left now , my dad is 79 and his older sister Lucille she is 84 .
You wouldnt happen to be the lady , that we met a few years ago when we were up at Perry looking at Graves ?
Anything you can remember I would love to hear .

If your father was Boyd Allen Whitfield I am your oldest sibling, Carol. My mother divorced Boyd when I was very small and we only remained in contact with Sarg and Polly, Mary Louise and Aunt Ruth and Uncle Sam. My G-G Grandfather was George Washington Whitfield, b. btwn 1820-1830. His father was John Whitfield and he had a brother named John also. He died in Vicksburg Prison,MS 12-29-1862 along with his brother John. George was married to Mary Ann Kendrick who was born in GA. One of their children, my G-Grandfather, was Jesse Collin Whitfield, b. 06-30-1860 in Wilsonville, AL. He married Mary Pamela Brown from Fairburn, GA. My grandfather, David Taylor Whitfield was born in Talladega, AL 12-24-1863 and died in Lubbock, TX 08-07-1956.

I am looking for inforamtion on the Whitfield family.

Ottis Whitfield married Blanche Morgan (born 1900), and had 3 children. O.B. was born in 1919 or 1920, Berthine, birth date unknown, and Clara Mae in 1929.

I have great interest in the oldest son, O. B. Whitfield. There are many family secrets surrounding him and his life. Any and all information on him would be greatly appreciated.

I would also like info on Blanche Morgan, born 1900. Her father was killed on the railroad when she was young. Her mother remarried a Stowe. Father's name, sibblings, etc.

Need info on Ottis Whitfield as well. Paren't name, sibblings, etc.
