I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “M. Whitlock”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Bennett, Lancaster Co., Nebraska, and she looks to be about age 20.

The only Whitlock family in Lancaster Co., NE in that time frame is found in the 1880 Lancaster Co. census, showing parents James and Nancy, with daughter Millissa B. Whitlock, age 7.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Melissa or Millissa Whitlock.

Please share any information you can ?????????

Nancy [WHITLOCK] married Thomas NUNLEY 23 Jun 1872 in Colbert Co, Alabama. Nancy was the daughter of Hezekiah WHITLOCK and Matilda [GOFF] of Franklin and Colbert counties, AL.

Thomas signed his name "NUNLEE" on his CSA papers and his sons by his 1st marriage to Charlotte [PAINE] used that spelling also.

My cousin Jane thinks Thomas and Nancy could be her Great- grandparents: she has spent years and years trying to find either or both of them on the 1880 and 1900 census but has found no trace of either of them.

Her Great-grandfather, Augustus Harrison NUNELEE was born 28 Apr 1876 in Alabama and she hasn't been able to find him on the 1880 or 1900 census either. Thus she has never been able to settle the issue.

In 1910 Gus was a HH in Denton Co TX, single, and living with only his Step-mother Martha age 60 born TN/Tn/Tn: no information was given as to whether she had any children. So, if Thomas and Nancy are Gus' parents they were both deceased by 1910.

Gus died 25 May 1913 in Texas when his only child was barely 9 months old and just 2 1/2 years after he married Mary Melviney [HERRON]. The state of Texas has no record of his death but it is believed he died in either Denton County where his daughter was born or Delta county where he is buried.

If you know anything at all about what happened to Thomas or Nancy would you please email me at the addy below ???
My heartfelt thanks,
Kathye Upham
n540kin@comcast.net

In the 1960s, the descendants of Robert Mitchell Whitlock and Lucinda Schoolcraft Purvis had family reunions at the My Old Kentucky Home campground. I attended as the granddaughter of Lorena Miller, nee Whitlock, daughter of Robert Luther Whitlock, son of Robert Mitchell Whitlock. I would love to get in contact with any who attended those reunions - to share stories and genealogies of the family.

Lewis Abner Whitlock/Abraham Brown Whitlock, cousins of TN and TX??

Lewis Abner Whitlock married the widow Nancy Ward Barrett(widow of Andrew Barrett).Nancy WArd born abt 1820. Lewis Abner must have inherited the son of Andrew and Nancy Ward Barrett, Andrew T. Barrett. He was not adopted kept his own name. Do not know when Andrew Barrett died, but he is said to have been buried in Memphis, TN as is Lewis Abner Whitlock. As the story goes Lewis Abner Whitlock was in the Civil War probably on the side of the CSA because I could not find him in any federal record. He asked his cousin, Abraham Brown Whitlock to look after his wife, Nancy Ward Barrett Whitlock and his children if anything happened to him in the war. I guess something did because Nancy Ward Barrett Whitlock married Abraham Brown Whitlock. Andrew T. Barrett told a story to the newspaper about moving to Texas after the civil war from TN. He related that the Yankee soldiers came into his home and took anything edible. Nancy Ward Barrett had three children with Lewis Abner Whitlock. Since two were born in 1858/1861 I am guessing that they still lived in TN, possibly Shelby Co near Memphis. Children born to Abner and Nancy Whitlock were Elizabeth Whitlock born 9 Feb 1858 and Minerva Cordelia Whitlock April 1861. CAn anyone help me find the Abner Whitlock family on the 1860 TN census? household would also have Andrew T. Barrett as a member.Abraham Brown Whitlock is buried in Mc Gregor TX. Nancy Ward Barrett Whitlock/Whitlock is buried in Bastrop Co. TX.I would like to place the Whitlock family in time and place somewhere in TN before the war. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks.
When I was a just beginning to get into Genealogy my Aunt Florence Carter (Whitlock) gave me a stack of papers, from store receits to news clippings. Sadly she died right afterwards and didn't get to tell me what they were. I begin to go though them again recently and there is a "petition for appointment guardian" plus adoption papers. There was a Dr Giles Lucas that was adopting Mittie Whitlock after her father (Jack Whitlock) died. These papers are in remarkable condition and range from 1886 to 1906. All I know that the Dr Giles Lucas had a office in Van Buren Arkansas. I can find him in the census but can't find her. She was adopted March 6th 1902. If anyone knows anything about any of these people, I would more than grateful to hear from you. Please send all email to my addy MsJazzyBlue@aol.com.

My uncle was Christopher Roger Whitlock. He wandered around a lot. We think he left at least two sons with their mothers somewhere in the south. He traveled around Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee that we know of. A son found him one time and was turned away. We would like to know his sons. A daughter from Mobile Alabama has already found us and we love her to pieces. She would love to find her half-brothers. My uncle has passed away and his children (3) here are not real eager to meet you. But you still have two aunts and many cousins and a half-sister who would. Also, our family history is full of cancer, diabetes, and alcoholism. Would love to show you pictures of your grandparents.
Email me!!!

My Great Grandfather was John Henry Kelley, his brother was Frank Whitlock. The story goes that before J. Henry was born or right after he was born, his Dad died and later his Mom remarried a Kelley. Being young, J. Henry came up with the Kelley name. His brother stayed Frank Whitlock. On the census, J. Henry was born in S. C. sometime in the 1840's or 1850's. Lived most of his life in Madison, Franklin or Elbert Co. Ga. Know anything of these people, please let me know. Trisha

Anyone interested in the Whitlock DNA project. We only have a few participants so far but are looking for more. We have a match between the James and Nancy Bowen Whitlock line and the Unknown Whitlock and Grizzel Colement Whitlock line. We also have a match with a Washburn (36 of 37 markers) of Virginia. One participant who is descended from Thomas Whitlock and Susanna Webb did NOT match any of the other Whitlock's.

We would love to have more Whitlock's participate and try to help our genealogy with DNA.

Greg Whitlock

Whitlock DNA Project

The Whitlock DNA project is underway!! I have received my results for the 37 marker test. I descend from Unknown Whitlock and Grizzel Coleman. Another Whitlock has taken the 12 marker test and we matched 12 of 12 markers proving our lines tie. The more Whitlock's that participate the more we will learn about the Whitlock family so please think about participating. The 37 marker test seems to be the best as it can prove relationships within only a few generations but the 25 marker test or 12 marker test will also prove the relationship to other Whitlock's (just not as recent).

Thanks for your consideration.

Greg Whitlock

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Whitlock, Alice Virginia
Whitlock, Mary Isabel (Dit)

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Are/were you related to the person in this obituary you posted on the Whitlock message board at Rootsweb.com? Is this obituary from Greenwood,South Carolina? It does not give a state or a newspaper name. White or Black person as I am not familar with the names of the funeral homes in that area? Was she from the Edgefield County/District, South Carolina, Whitlocks or from the Union District, South Carolina, Whitlocks? Does anyone on the list or the board have the names of her parents?

I am searching for a lady named Jewel Whitlock probably born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma around 1911. She had a child in 1955 at Deaconess Hospital. She spent approx. 14 days in that hospital. She was divorced at the time of the birth of the child. She was of Irish and Scotish decent. She was affiliated with the Baptist faith, so we are told. She smoked cigarettes but did not drink alcoholic beverages, so we are told. Her occupation was housework. She had 4 brothers, however we are not sure about this. This information was given by an adoption service and could be incorrect. Jewel's daughter needs this information desperately due to health problems. We would like any information on her or her relatives. This would deeply be appreciated. The lawyer that arranged for Jewel's child's adoption was named Jim White, however, he is now deceased. The doctor who attended Jewel was named Martin H. Andrews who may also be deceased. Jewel was 42 years old when she had her child.

I am trying to determine if this is the same William WHITLOCK who in 1820 appears in Boone Co., KY, then possibly later in Floyd Co., IN. The Indiana William WHITLOCK m. Julia Ann MONAGHAN there on July 29, 1835, and appears in Greenville, IN, in 1850, then later in Floyds Knobs in Lafayette Township living next to his son William, Jr.

The 1850 Indiana census indicates that the older William was born in VA about 1796, and that William, Jr., was born in KY about 1826.

I am reserching the Stine family and would like to complete this family branch. Fannie was born in August 1927 in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland. She relocated to Ohio after 1948.

I do not know Whitlock's first name and am seeking his name. It is presumed that Whitlock may have died prior to 1992 but I do not know an exact death date. Fannie and Whitlock lived in Cleveland, Ohio for quite some time. Be interested in connecting with any of their children, if they had any, to exchange information and complete this branch.

NOTE: If anyone knows of an online search for obituaries in Ohio I would be interested in this link. I would like to locate an obituary for Whitlock.
I descend from Nancy Ward who first married Andrew Barrett of TN and then a Lewis Abner Whitlock. Lewis died while serving in the Civil War and is buried in Memphis, TN. Ward Barrett Whitlock was from TN (born 1829) and is buried in the Wattreson Cemetery near Bastrop, Texas in 1911. Lewis had a cousin, Abraham Brown Whitlock, whom he asked to take care of his wife if anything happened to him. Abraham Whitlock is buried in McGregor County, Texas. Would like to fill in some of the details. Appreciate any help.
