I don't have a Caroline Whitten but do have a Caroline Lee Whitten. b. abt 1846, Wayne co, TN. No information on a husband.

The only Murphy I have is Rebecca b. bet 1800-1810 in Newberry, SC married to Nicholas Whitten, Sr. b. be 1794-1800 in Newberry, SC. They had 9 children. The girls are Frances Elizabeth, Nancy Jane and Sarah Lucentia.

All I have on Hannah Creath is she was born abt 1832 in Lubic,Maine. Her father was Thomas Creath born abt 1814 in Ireland and his father John Creath born abt 1781. Her sibling were Sarah, John, Thomas. She married Herbert Whitten Aug. 26, 1876 in Lubic, Maine. Their children were Albert, Harvey, Josephine, Wilmot, Rollo, Emma, Sumner. Hope this helps you.

Could there be a Caroline Whitten in any of your information? Married Talt Murphy wo was killed in the Cival War. they had 4 children-William Murphy, J Talt Murphy,Margaret and Mary. She must have remarried but have no records of such. Parents were from SC, she lived in Lauderdale, AL but was born in or around Wayne, Tenn. Any help would be appreciated.

What about a Julia, or Juliana? Her maiden name was Aldridge. Or maybe you have Macy, he was born around 1909, I'm not sure of the exact spelling of his name, I've found several different ways its been spelled, his mother was Fannie.

Mason dob 1789, Newberry District, SC dod 1865, Texas

Nancy Hair - dob 1811, newberry District, SC
Dod after 1837, M. bet 1820 - 1821, probably in Newberry Dist. SC

Mason's father was Charles 'Elijah' Whitten and his mother was Mary C. Whitten. Some researchers have a different wife for Charles - Milicent Regan, but I believe it was Mary C. Whitten.

I've uploaded the confirmed info I have as well as Maurice's photo. I noticed you were also the editor for Dexter C. my dad. If you add me to trusted there I'll upload pictures I have of him and further info. Jack's geneology mentions my Dad going awol from the Navy. He was apparently also in the Army I believe during WWII. I have documentation of him being a Master Sargent in the Army Ordinance Corp. He was discharged at Ft. Dix. I guess the Army suited him better.

Good to meet you. By any chance has Jack Holloway sent you the genology of the Whitten side of the family. I believe he had a professional researcher do the whitten family tree background. I have a copy of this on a CD that Jack provided a few years back. On Dexter's side (my dad) I'm Jack's cousin. Let me know if you'd like a copy of this disc I'll go through the stuff I have and confirm the info I have and I may have a picture of Samuel Maurice somewhere.

Although I have no information on your parents or grandparents (other than what you've supplied here), your grandfather's brother Edward is my ancestor. Interestingly, Edward named one of his sons Maurice.

Whitten & Jane Murphy married Rebecca Louise Bedford on 15 Feb 1866, Itawamba, Lee county, Mississippi. Son George of this union, was born in Newberry District, South Carolina. I do not have a date for his birth. Date for his death - 26 Apr 1856, Wayne county, Tennessee. I do not have a marriage listed for this George. I have several other George Whitten's in my husband's line, to many to list here. Hope this helps. The Whitten family sure liked George for a name.

The Chreene Cemetery in the Bethel Community near Logansport, De Soto LA., said that my John Whitten was born in 1906: He married twice both times to a woman with the surname of Chreene: He lived in the Bethel Community near Logansport, LA. in De Soto Parish, LA., he had two children that I know of: John R. Whitten and Maze Whitten.

His father was John Whitten b. unknown married Jennie Phillips. (the Chreen Chreene Cemeter list her as Jennie
Bullock Phillips.

two women with the last name of Chreene: they are burried in he Chreene Cemetery, De Soto Parish, LA. I don't know when or where this first John Whitten died; Jinnie remarried a Bullock, then a Glascock: burried in the Chreen Cemetery, De Soto Parish, LA.

I'll bet that he is related to your John Whitten.
Do you have a John Whitten born 1906 (either in LA., or TX.)

Most of us think that Elijah Whitten who married Elizabeth Lowe is the son of Jeremiah Whitten(son of William and Mary Whitton of Caroline Co., Va) and Anne Berry, dau. of John and Jemina Berry of Culpper Co., Va.
Jeremiah died 1778 Amherst Co., Va and widow, Anne went to Washington Co., Ky with two daughters and some of their sons. There several lines of Red hair in this family.
Most of my husbands Y-DNA matches are in Scotland and Northern Ireland and then England.
Would be great is everyone with the surmane WHITTEN/WHITTON/WHIDDON/WITTEN and related surnames would have their Y-DNA tested. We would know who is related.

I've seen William Whitten of Coshocton County on the internet listed as the husband of a Rachel (Cantwell?), living in Coshocton County in the first part of the 19th century. My ancestress, Waitstill Ann, wife of John Forest, was one of their daughters. Does anyone know anything further about the ancestry of William Whitten? Was he born in Rhode Island? If anyone has found anything additional on this family I'd very much appreciate the information. Thanks!

My husband's Whitten line starts with Charles 'Elijah' Whitten, than Johnathan M. Whitten to George Washington Whitten to John Van Whitten to Henry Earl Whitten, which is his father. Henry Earl also had a brother named George Washington Whitten. My husband's Whitten line in Texas. His father, Henry Earl Whitten, was one of ten children and lost track of many of his siblings. My grandmother was Sallie Green Whitten born 23 December 1870. She was the daughter of Green B. Whitten of McCormick, South Carolina and Martha Virginia Sanders Whitten. She had a brother John Austin Whitten born Jan. 1869. Green B. Whitten was killed in a mining accident before my grandmother's birth. Green B. Whitten had a sister Susan A. Whitten who married Martha Virginia's brother John Henry Sanders. I cannot find anything on Green B. Whitten. Can you help?

I am a descendent of Jeremiah Whitten who died in Amherst Va, 1778/98. I have listed his father as William Whitten, born abt 1670 and died abt 1730 in Caroline, Va. I am interested to find any more info on this line and would be very happy to share.

Searching for a photo of James Whitten,born abt 1835 at Saco, Maine to Samuel and Lucinda Ladd. He migrated to California (Table Bluff) married Indian woman, had 3 boys, Samuel, Thomas and George. James was killed by a neighbor and George died as a young man in a bar room fight. Samuel moved to Montana, Washington and died in Portland Or. 1941.
Have no idea what happened to Thomas, but would like to know. Photo could be roaming around Saco/Biddeford ME. or Eureka, Table Bluff CA. families. Help appreciated. AliceMarie

My Wilkinsons lived in Freedom, NH, not Freedom, Maine. They were descended of an immigrant ancestor, Thomas Wilkinson, who lived in Portsmouth, NH and Berwick, ME around 1700.

James Wesley Wilkinson is my great, great grandfather - born in Ohio, son of William Wilkinson of Kentucky. Wilkinson is a common English surname. I am not aware of families in my line in Maine or New Hampshire and don't know how Julia of Maine connected with James of Ohio. My information indicates they were married in Ohio.

This may be old news by now. There were several Whitten brothers that came through Panama to the gold fields in 1850. They had been ships carpenters in Maine. They became mine carpenters when they got to CA. One, Ephriam, was injured and left to San Jose, CA. He died there. His widow, Abbie, took her children to Washington and farmed theres. (All of this was oral history from George E. Whitten, d.1973 Washington)

hello...i was going through the threads.. and noticed that thaddeus seems to have come from mississippi....umm...well, i do not know of a Thaddeous... but iam related to an alonzo elmer whitten whom also came from mississippi..tallahatchee..i beleieve...elmer had a son named alonzo luis who is my grand father....my queistion for you, is... do you know of elmer or alonzo whitten???
somehow, my grandfather (alonzo luis) ended up in florida, i believe it must of had somthing to do with shipping...he died some where about 1948...
would love to hear anything you may know...

Andrew J. Whitten was born about 1833 in Maine. He married Mary (possibly Prentiss), also of Maine. They had at least six children (Abby, George, John, Frank, Clarance, and Fred). In 1860 they lived with Ebenezer and Abby Prentiss in Portland, and had named their young daughter Abby. In 1870 they were in Biddeford, and had Olive (age 84) living with them. Does anyone know anything about his or her parents?
