Thanks for reading! I hope that I can get some help from someone who may be able to fill in the blanks.
We have traced roots back to a James Whittington living in Columbia County while married to Julia Amanda Brown. We feel comfortable saying that James' siblings were John and Mary. The first trouble came trying to track down James' father, but we believe that Ephraim Whittington Born around 1800 matches the best.
Ephraim married Martha Magruder in 1823 and the 1840 Census lists 5 people living in the household. Each of these age categories can be assigned to one of the children and the mother. The issue that we are running into is that there are two Ephraims that were born around the same time. We believe that one traveled to MS and the other stayed in Columbia County/Richmond GA.
Has anyone ran across anything such as a will or land deed that might suggest that this is true? We have found a will that links Barnett Whittington who died in 1818/19 and his wife Sarah to Ephraim, but cannot find the 100% concrete evidence that Ephraim is in fact James' father. James has a sister Mary, who married William Egarton. Martha can be seen living in this household in 1850, which suggests that Ephraim died prior to this census.
Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
