      <description>It is German, and its origional spelling is "Weindt". And I believe it is the name of a small town in southern Germany outside of Cologne.</description>

      <description>Sorry, this is over a year late. I believe it means something about the hand, I think "open hand." I remember coming across it in my family tree when I was younger. I would also bet 90% that it's German.</description>
