Wick in Victoria, Australia

Anton Wick was my great great great grandfather I believe. His father was Christopher Wick, but that is all i know about him except that his wife was Margaret Lathwell. I am assuming Christopher Wick was born and died in Germany. But I don't know for sure.

Anton Wick
Born: 1826
Jrohartoghom, [county], Hessen, Germany
Died: 1893
Beechworth, Victoria, Australia

There is a very famous bushranger in Australia called 'Ned Kelly' and Ned Kelly was apart of a gang called 'The Kelly Gang' back in the 1800's in Beechworth, Victoria. Anyway, Anton Wick was walking in the town and was taken hostage in a way by this Gang as they forced him to knock on the door of a known policeman and when he opened the door, they shot the policeman dead. Anyway, this connects him to a famous Kelly Gang story, a popular interest for Australians.

Anton and his wife Sarah Kate Heur (German) gave birth to several children including my great great grandfather, William Wick and then his son is Ronald George Wicks who is my great grandfather and then his son is William Wicks who is my grandfather.
The name changed from 'Wick' to 'Wicks' sometime around Federation (well a fter 1900) in Australia. Don't know why.

If anybody has any more ideas about this family line, please let me know.
gjaner84@hotmail.com

She lived in a small house and "hid a horse there" to save it from being captured from the opposite side of the war. Any information on marriage, death, birth, or anything else would be gladly accepted. Thank you

Wick DNA Project

OK - it's only partly true. We've primarily focused on Vick at
http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/v/vick/index.html.

But since finding a pretty unique YDNA result we realized our more distant cousins may be WICKs not VICKs. After all the Germanic W is said as a V. Our haplogroup Q result points toward Vikings. And we're not finding matches for any other VICKs than the descendants of our forebare.

Wick is only somewhat less common in Great Britain than Vick, which is not very common.

So come on WICKs, check it out. Maybe we'll even find some distant German WICK cousins.

I wish I had started this while my grandparents were alive.

I am trying to trace the Wick family back through Germany. My great-great grandfather was John Wick. Born in Baden, Germany. So far i have found him on the US census back to 1860 but not on the 1850 one. So I am assuming that he immigrated in that decade but cannot find any immigration records showing him.

I also have conflicting birth dates of 1817 and 1824

He moved to Darke County Oh and was his wife's name was Lydia.

If anyone has any further infomation I would be grateful.

I`m interested in making contact with relatives of Regina Wick. According to the info I`ve found doing genealogical research, she was born in Germany in about 1898; she came to America with her mother and siblings in 1902, and lived in Dayton, Ohio. She was married to a Fred Wick, who, as I recall, died in Dayton in 1958. She died in CA in October 1972. Regina was a niece of my greatgrandfather. If anyone is related, please e-mail me. Thank you.

An Andrew Wick - who was my grandfather's grandfather - was born in New Jersey in or around 1825. I believe he was from either Salem or Gloucester County. His son was also Andrew Wick, and he was born in N.J. in 1859. The 1860 census has the family living in Camden. The elder Andrew Wick died in Philadelphia in 1898. I have run out of ideas to put some flesh and history on the elder Andrew - exactly where he was from, and who his parents were. Any thoughts?
Christian Wick m. Margarethe Opperman Jul 1874, Milwaukee

In my Oppermann family research I found an incomplete parish marrige record: Margarethe Oppermann married a Christian Wick on Jul 21 1874, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. All other information is blank on this record, even the parents of the bride who were parish members of this close, but fast growing, German community. Both surnames even have "(?)" written after them. Other records verify that the names and marriage date are likely correct and online information also shows that Christian is likey an emmigrant from the Nassau region of Prussia, died on 7 Mar 1906, is buried in Milwaukee. He and Margarethe Oppermann Wick raised [at least] a couple of children: Mary K. Wick Frederick, and John William in the Shorewood area of Milwaukee.

Anyone have more information on this Christian Wick, b. about 1830, in their family lines?

Thanks!

The Wick researchers for Darke County may try searching Butler County Ohio. I too have a Wick line out of Butler Co. There are a few George Wick there and that have moved on. Some went up to Shelby County that were in Butler also.
There is a Michael Wick in Darke in 1860's and I wonder where he came from. Michael & Caroline had a child George that ended up buried in Shelby County.
Our Wicks married into Shultz, Lieghaber, Reife, Yauch, Swartz,Leflar,Somm, & more in the 1800's.
There is George Adam Wick in Marion County Ohio in 1834.
I am trying to find the family of Michael Wick born abt 1832 in Bayern Germany.
family research

I am trying to trace the Wick side of my family. My grandfather's name was Mervin Peter Wick. His father and 3 brothers came from Norway when they were in their teens. Their last name, I have been told was Peterson. One became Wick, one became Vik and one became Wilson when they reached the US. My great grandmother's name was Gertrude. I know very little else as my grandfather died when I was 6. As far as I know, the family has resided in Northwestern Minnesota the whole time. Does anyone know anything about this?

WICK, SCHWISTER, FORESTER, WEAIND, JONEN,

Hi,

I am related to a Jeanette Mary Wick (April 25, 1925) who married a Raymond John Jonen ( May 17, 1922-November 14,
1990). They had three daughters-names with-held for privacy reasons.

WICK, SCHWISTER, FORESTER, WEAIND, JONEN,

I also have in my database a Joseph R. Wick who married an Elsie Schwister (born Abt. 1904-died Aft. December 1965). I
know little to nothing about them and wondered if you had any information on them?
Elsie Schwister was born Abt. 1904 (Source 1910 Census); died After December 1965 (Source: Albina Forster Weiand's
Funeral Book); married Joseph R. Wick (Source: Alois Weiand's Funeral Book); died After December 1965 (Source: Albina
Forest Weiand's Funeral Book)

The parents of Elsie SCHWISTER were: Henry Schwister born Abt. 1874 and Clara Anna Jonen born February 1879. They
were married November 19, 1902 in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin..but where, I don't know. Possibly at St. Martin's
Catholic Church in Granville.

I also have a Leander Wick married to a Gertrude Schwister. Gertrude was also a daughter of Henry Schwister born Abt.
1874 and Clara Anna Jonen born February 1879.

Can you add any details?
Thank you in advance,
Susan
snokes@tscnet.com
Other people researching this surname, please contact me at the above addess, as I do not often return to this message board.
Thank you,
Susan

We believe her name in Norway was Traetterveg, or Traettewic (or something close to that). Her father might have lived here in the states also.

Iam searching out my family name of Wick Frances Louise Wick b. 25 Feb. 1904, M. James Paul Jackson b. 18 Aug. 1901, Louise's dad was George Wick b. Aug.9,1880 in St.Paul Minn. M. Emma Mae Peterson in Bismark N.D. while he worked for the railroad, He had several brothers and sisters, of whom I knew Carl Wick I believe a young brother and then there were several sisters who ended up in Oregon but we have no names. I have the name Martin Middleton Wick whom m. a Sofie Neilson or Nelson for the first m. and we have no records of whom he married second or third but that they resided in Minn. we do not even know if they went to N.D. Bismark as there seems to be no record. We did believe tho that a Conrad Wick was the father of Martin but nothing has been found to prove this. Anyone with help for us would be appreciated.
Carlotta@whidbey.com Thank you

They settled in Monroe, WI - at least for some years. Lenas brother also came along - he was later killed in an accident and Lena raised his children. Though we
didn't find anything to help us we did find 4 graves of WICK ancestors. They are:
1. Wick (1st name unreadable) 12/3/1849 2/25/1901
2. Wick, Elizabeth 2/7/1879 11/9/1880
3. Wick, Marie 8/30/1875
4. Wick, Mother 1/3/1811 6/2/1886
Perhaps this will be of help to someone.
