Serena Jane Wickliff was my g-grandmother. My grandfather was Eddy V. Golding. Serena's father was John K. Wickliff, son of William. They were married on 16 Jan 1873 in Shelby County. They actually had 6 children: Eddy V., Perry A., Harry E., Clarence L., Claude E., and Martha G. Serena and John are buried in Liberty Cemetery in Shelby County, Indiana. I have pictures of John and Serena's graves if you are interested.

I have found arrest reports for a Harry and Perry Golding but could never connect the two as siblings. This gives me a lot more information to check on.

After looking further into the subject I have found that in one or more of the census reports, Cerina is Spelled Serena. She did marry John Golding. John's father was from Ireland and his mother from EnglandShe died in 1916. They had at least five children: Perry A., Harry E., Eddy V., Clarence E., Martha G. I am sure that with a little checking of census reports, death reports, marriage reports, etc., more information can be obtained. I am still convinced that Serena was of the John K. Wickliff family as I have recorded in our genealogy book. If you need more on the Wickliff family background, let me know.

I have a Cerina Wickliffnborn in 1852 to William K. and Martha Huffman Wickliff in Shelby County, Indiana.
Her siblings were: William (b. 1854; Cynthia, (b. 1857); George, (b. 1857); Anderson, (b. 1860); John H. (b. 1863)(he was my wife's grandfather); Jacob, (b. 1867); Eddie, (b. 1869).

I have traced the Wickliff family back to 1080 with a better than average credibility. If I can be of further help reply by e-mail - jcomo1@juno.com.

The William K.
Wickliffe, Wickliff, Wycliffe and de Wycliffe

I have a question for the list. I've been merrily matching up my US Wickliffe's to my own line and crossing over into England with them, eventually ending up with my line of de Wycliffe families. No matter how many times I've searched and tried to match up spouses and various birth dates of husbands and wives, I always seem to be off in these repeating names of James, Robert etc. Then I came across one Rootsweb family tree that said the famous John de Wycliffe...for his English translation of the bible and various political stances...that he was never married. That means my line is up to him, but isn't directly his. No kids, no me.

Is this correct? Does anyone know for sure that this particular Bible transcribing John, born approximately 1324 in Hipswell, England, did not marry?

Also, if anyone has any fun "notes" about the various Wickliffe/Wycliffe families I would be delighted to read them. Everything I find online about these families always reviews the Bible transcriber, John, but seldom is there anything written about the generations before and after him.

Thanks for all your ideas and help.
wickliff ancestors

I am looking for siblings or parents of Mary Alice Wickliff born November 5, 1863 and died March 14, 1941. She married William Henry Kaster who had a domestic dipute with her and thought that he had killed her. When she came to she had discovered that he committed suicide by shooting himself and he left her to raise 8 children. My grandfather was one of those children. I am stuck with her ancestors and nothing matches the exact date of birth. It is believed she is the native american in our family. Any history from her birth and back would be greatly appreciated.

Somehow I think we are all dancing around each others relations. My grandfather Robert Wickliff Mason fathered a child by an indian woman. In order to settle up with her, She was given a piece of property in Oaklahoma that was previously owned by a Mr. Davis. I will not know much more until I order his birth records.

Nancy,

Thanks for responding. However, I think Kentucky is a little outside of our range. My grandfather's (Edward Wickliff) family is from Louisiana. If fact his father's name may have been changed from Paul to Wickliff. Silvester Wickliff is my great grandfater and he lived to be about 100 years old. He died in Ames, Texas oh, about 40-45 years ago. He moved from Louisiana as a child or young adult to Ames which is between Beaumont and Houston, TX.

Again, thanks for responding and if I find any connection I will certainly get back in touch.

Happy New Year

Dwight

Hi Becky,

My grandfather, Edward Wickliff, son of Silvester Wickliff, also has an American Indian connection. I have no information regarding the connection. I am also told that my great grandfather's family name was changed from Paul to Wickliff so I may not be directly connected the Wickliff family ancestry after all. My great grandfather, Silvester Wickliff migrated to Texas from Louisiana in the mid or latter 1800s.

Thanks for responding and if I find out anything about a true Wickliff or American Indian Connection I will let you know.

Happy New Year.

Dwight
I am researching my wife's family - Wickliff - I have arrived at her great-grandfather, John K. Wickliff, Shelby Co, IN. His birth place is TN. He and Martha Huffman were married in Fountaintown, Shelby Co, IN in 1850. Her grandfather was John H. Wickliff of Shelby Co. We grew up in Hancock Co. IN
If you have any information on her ancestry further back than John K. Wickliff we would appreciate some help.

My wife's grandfather was John H. Wickliff, born in 1863 in Shelby Co. IN - his father was John K. Wickliff. Her grandfather had a brother named Jacob, born in 1867. We are trying to trace the family back but I have had no luck beyond her greatgrandfather, John K. Wickliff, born 1825 in TN. He married Martha Huffman in Fountaintown, Shelby Co. IN in 1850. We would appreciate any information you might have.
