Re: David Wickliffe, St. Mary's Colony, MD

Dear Ed,
Reportedly, David and Jane Wickliffe came to Maryland in 1635 with the Eveyln Expedition aboard what we heard was The Plain Joan. I believe it was John Evelyn's expedition, as there are references to him on some British sites, though not much on that expedition, that I have found as yet. However, I keep searching the Immigrant Ships records and have yet to see their names listed. He owned a farm in Prince or St George's Hundred, Maryland. He was in the Maryland Assembly. Good luck with finding their ship. I think we'd have to search the British records. They may have left England on the Plain Joane, but could have been diverted to another ship in Barbados or somewhere. I'm not sure what year David Jr was born.

I found him in records of Maryland. I'm fuzzy on some of the place names as my notebook is elsewhere. But, Wycliffe Manor is in Wycliffe, Yorkshire, England. It lies 5 miles from Barnard Castle on the south side of the river Tees. He died about 1642, his widow Jane remarried and she and her husband Henry (Brooks, I think) went to Virginia, where their children grew up, married. Our line went to Kentucky. Jane was (nee Evers or Eure.) I haven't done any searching for them for several years, but if you have questions, I'll go retrieve my notebook.

I'm trying to find out where Isaac Wickliffe is buried. He died in 1879 and most of his life he spent in Missouri. He was married 3 times. His last wife a lot younger then him died in Kansas. His son John Thomas and Lovinia were Granville's parents. I know this is reaching out, but found your posting and hope you had done some checking on this. Thanks. Another Wickliffe

I believe Maggie's father, Nathaniel, was born in Louisiana and his ancestry goes back to England.
Carolyn Lamberth Johnson
hookemlrj@suddenlink.net

Just found your post. I would like to see Isaac Clayton Wickliffe's (who married 3 times) will or Bible or whatever information we can share if you would be willing. I do have a lot of information on Isaac Clayton Wickliffe's two children (Virginia and Southern Ida Wickliffe) from his 2nd marriage with Nancy Hudspeth. I also have land document where he 'sold up' his land in Jan 1875 to Callaway Green Heath and at the time was married to 3rd Hulda C. Unknown. Maybe everyone already knows this--I am jumping in late maybe. Would you share your information with me? I have an old photo of his child Southern Ida Wickliffe and her children.

Hello all!

3 years ago, I put up an announcement for a family reunion. We are having another one July 18, 2009 at Chain-O-Lakes State Park in Albion, Indiana. I would like to invite as many Wickliffe's and their families as I can. We had a great time last time and I am hoping for another great turn out. As of right now about 12 family members will be camping Friday and Saturday night. I hope you can make it. If you have any questions please feel free to email me or check out the website at: www.wickliffegenealogy.com.

Have a great night!

Dawn

I believe my sisters found it in their research. Believe it was a parish record of their marriage, but don't quote me until I can check my facts. I'm at work right now but will try to respond to you soon. Our Bible lists her as Jane Evers/Eure, so that might help you as well. David Wycliffe/Wickliffe lived in Wycliffe, England, Yorkshire.
I will keep looking. You may very well be right about Elizabeth--being Eliphalet or one of the in-laws-I've notice other searchers have similar ideas. Lula

What is the source of Eliphalet's birth date as 1 Jan 1830? If it's an iffy source, that might lend credence to my theory. Thanks for answering. Looking forward to working with you. I love the Wickliffe family.

I live in the Ice storm , and have been without power for 7 days.
I'm still puzzled about the Elizabeth's--their birth dates are wrong for one to be Eliphalet's. I will check more on my notes, and see what else I can come up with. If you have more thoughts on this you may E-mail me. lula@centurytel.net I would like to get this straight also. Lula

I have just "tuned in" to this thread and if anyone is still searching for Eliphalet H. Wickliffe, I would like to pose a theory that in the list of children in Isaac Wickliffe's Bible, the "Elizabeth H. Wickliffe, b. 28 Sep 1830" has been misread and is actually Eliphalet H. Wickliffe. The reason I think this might be so is that there is another Elizabeth in that family, b. 16 Dec 1826 with no death date in the list of deaths. If anyone has found more information on Eliphalet, I would love to collaborate. I am compiling a master database of Wickliffes.

I am looking for information on the family of THEODOSIA WICKLIFFE, one of four daughters of Col. John Crepps Wickliffe (1830-1913) and Eleanor Curd Wickliffe of Bardstown, KY. The only information known about Theodosia Wickliffe is that her married name is Theodosia C. Stewart of Attalla, AL in 1913. I would like to find portraits of any of these people as well as Eleanor Curd's sister Theodosia who died in their home.

I am also looking for the location of Col. and Mrs. Wickliffe's home between 1870 and 1880. He was judge of the Tenth Judicial District of KY during this time. Col. John C. Wickliffe was a son of Charles Anderson Wickliffe, a governor of Kentucky, and of Wickland in Bardstown.

I read this today in the Salina News Herald dated Oct. 29, 1926. Your post does not mention a time frame, but think this might be your line of Wickliffe information if Willie was born in 1903.
Vol. 14 No. 16 dated Oct. 29, 1926:
"Mrs. Wm. Wickliffe died at her home on Saline Creek a few days ago. She was the daughter of Paul Glass of Kenwood and a neice of Mrs. Jess Hodge of Salina."

Don't know if this refers to the William Wickliffe you are looking for, but the time and location fits.
Salina News Herald Vol. 13 No.31 dated Feb. 5, 1926
"LOCAL ITEMS
Wm Wickliffe and Nancy Elac, both of Kenwood, got married a few days ago. The groom is a nephew of the well-known Tom Wickliffe while the bride is a neice of Mrs. Jess Hodge of this place."

You posted your message long ago but I may have some information you are interested in. My grandfather was named Clinton and his father was named William. William was captured by the North during the Civil War and is supposed to be buried somewhere near Springfield, MO.

Clinton lived at least his adult life in Arkansas. His wife was Mary Ann and they had 7 children. Clinton died in his 80s which would be around 1964. One daughter died in childhood and I do not recall her name. The other daughter, Ada Maude, married a Bradley and lived out her life in Arkansas. She had 4 or 5 children, one son was killed in Vietnam. My dad was Vernon Clinton, the youngest child; he was born 3-30-20 and died 6-28-02. His brothers were Cecil, Silas, Anthony, and Hughie; all are deceased and all have descendants. All lived in Arkansas. I know my grandfather Clinton had relatives in Texas. Also the family lived in Kentucky at one time and Clinton's mother or grandmother was Native American, Cherokee or Choctaw.

I know your message was posted forever ago but I think we could be on the same family tree. My grandfather was Clinton Wickliffe and his mother or grandmother was Native American - I heard either Choctaw or Cherokee, possibly from Oklahoma. At some point the family lived in Kentucky.

Clinton had a brother named William who was taken prisoner by the North during the Civil War and is supposed to be buried somewhere near Springfield, MO. I don't know about other siblings.

Clinton Wickliffe lived most of his life in Arkansas; he married Mary Ann and had 7 children.
Benton co MO: John Thomas Wickliffe and Louisa Lavina Allison

John Thomas Wickliffe's 2nd wife was Louisa Lavina Allison, her parents were Hugh and Sarah Allison, who had settled in Camden county MO before 1850 and moved to Benton county by 1860. I believe Sarah's maiden name was Phillips but need proof. I'm not a Wickliffe descendant; I'm tracking this Phillips family. Any leads would be much appreciated!

Robert

We think there is a connection but cannot prove it at this
time. Jessie Wickliffe and Viola Parks stem from John William Wickliffe and Mary Taylor (married in Bath, Virginia
in 1799). John and Mary went to the Shelby County, Indiana area, then three brothers headed to California but made it
to the Warsaw, Benton County, Missouri area and settled there. Then Jessie Wickliffe's father traveled to the Ferris, Ellis County, Texas area in 1902. If I can provide any information please ask away. I do have information on your descendents as well.

Bob Wickliffe
Hi Thelma
Saw your posting today. My 3xgreat grandmother was Mary Wycliffe born 1783 in Hutton Magna Yorkshire, and I was always told as a child by my gran that the family were Catholic recusants - paying fines for not attending the local parish church - and consequently lost all their money. We certainly have an old Catholic missal dated early 18th century in our possession, although not with the name Wycliffe on it sadly.
I have managed to discover that her father was Christopher Wycliffe, but have been unable to get any further back for definite.
I would love to prove what my gran used to say. It would also be fun to find out that we were related, albeit remotely to John Wycliffe.
Best wishes
Margaret
