WICKS-North Dakota, Minnesota, Oregon, Illinois

My name is Jamie Wicks, Bismarck North Dakota. I know none of my relatives with the last name WICKS. My dad is James O. Wicks and his father (whom I never met) was Harry Wicks and was from Minnesota. He married Gladys Olson back in the 30's. I know there must be some relation out there in Minnesota and possibly Oregon (where Harry Wicks later moved). I also believe that my Dad's Brother Euguene(Buck) Wicks had kids that live in maybe Springfield Ill. I just really want to finally figure out where I come from because it's been a mystery or family secret for my entire life.

Hi, William Ira Wicks (actually better identified as William Ida B Wicks) is my GGfather. I also was frustrated - could not find anything on him until I hit mother lode through an online cousin. Can forward a file with my line back to 1770s in NC as shared with me.

Saw the Oldham name in your post. I'm looking for Dolly's (Vela's) line (Carole Oldham). Last contact I have is when my grandparents visited them in Alaska in about 1955.

Re: Finding WICKS Family - John Austin Wicks, Christine Marlow, Oklahoma

I just read your posting from a year ago and may be able to assist you with your ancestors. My great-grandfather Hiram Sharp Weeks (1828-1910) of Winston County, Mississippi, had a first cousin John Austin Weeks (1836-1862). John Austin Weeks was born on September 28, 1836, in Winston County and was the son of James Grigsby Weeks (1813-1853) and his wife Hannah Reel Weeks. In the late 1830s James Grigsby Weeks moved his family to western Chickasaw County, MS [which in 1852 became Calhoun County]. In Calhoun County, John Austin Weeks married Louisa Jane Bristow, and they were the parents of three sons and one daughter. He was a Confederate soldier who died at home of disease on July 7, 1862. The fourth child, John Austin Weeks, Jr., was born on October 2, 1862, three months after the death of the father. After the Civil War, the widow Louisa Jane Bristow Weeks moved from Calhoun County to Tunica County and changed the spelling of her last name from Weeks to Wicks. Her oldest son James Allen Wicks and her youngest son John Austin Wicks moved from Mississippi to the Indian Territory and settled in what is today Muskogee County, Oklahoma. James Allen Wicks was the father of four daughters. John Austin Wicks was married three times and was the father of nine sons and three daughters who lived to adulthood. John Austin Wicks died on January 7, 1932, in Muskogee County and was buried in South Bethel Cemetery at the town of Braggs. What was your grandfather Weeks's first name? From your posting, your grandfather Weeks probably was one of the nine sons of this John Austin Wicks (1862-1932).

Billy Weeks
Nashville, TN
He was in Dundas county in 1901 and 1911 but I am having trouble tracking where he came from.
Robert Wicks, Queenborough Kent England 1800

Robert and Sophia Wicks had at least 3 children here: Sarah 1803, William 1807, Sophia 1810. Mother Sophia died as a widow in 1839 at the home of her daughter Sophia Wayman. What happened to Robert? Have followed William and Sophia, but have little knowledge of daughter Sarah who married John Stronghill in 1821 at the Minster in Sheppey.

She is Ruth Ann (Klespitz) Wicks. My dad's brothers are Bob Wicks, and the late Kenny and Billy Wicks. He has two sisters, Nancy and Kay. I am not sure of their married names.

My line comes from Sir Richard Weekes from Honeychurch, England. They came in to Oyster Bay NY. I am not sure without checking but there were several brothers. One of my cousins has his DNA test done and confirmed our lineage. We can go back to the 1100s with name changes like Weeks, Weekes, Wick, Wicks, Wix,DeWray. If you can give me some more info like the furthest back that you can go I will try to see what I can find. I have found several relatives through Ancestry.com and really enjoy finding new ones and more information. Some even went to the Pacific west coast and are now in Alaska.

Yes I believe that is them. I was trying to verify the name of Pearl Margret Thomas's mother. The CA death index shows her mothers maiden name as Dill. I believe her mother was Rebekah Dill, her Grandfather was Joseph Dill, and her G-Grandfather Nimrod Dill. Nimrod Dill moved from TN about 1840. I believe Rebekah died between 1884 and 1888. Pearl was born 28 Nov 1884, and Andrew Thomas, Pearl's father remarried in July 1888.

I am related to a Merker line from Pittsburgh. I have some pictures from an old family album during vacations to Lake Geneva in Ohio. A few of those pictures show both a John and Bert Wicks. There are also a few pictures of the whole Wicks family up there. The pictures were taken in and around 1912. I would suspect that the boys were in there early 20's in the shots.

Any connection to your family or anoy other family of Wicks with pittsburgh connections have them drop me a line.

jmefurlong at roadrunner.com

Jeff

They both died in the 1970s in San Diego, CA. It seems they did not have children but am looking for confirmation either way.

Olive - niece of William McWILLIAM 1930s

After an unfortunate shooting, followed by suicide, William McWILLIAM died in LaGrande, Union County, Oregon. William was the son of Robert James and Olive (WHITCOMB) McWILLIAM(s) and was born there in 1866. In his 1937 obit it says he left a widow, Hattie (GLENN) McWILLIAM and a niece, "Mrs. Olive WICKS of San Diego". I am hoping a WICKS researcher can make this connection for me. I descend through William McWILLIAM"S grandfather and am looking for someone who may have more information about William's line. The 1930 census does not hold any obvious answers for me but perhaps one of you will see the connection - I would be glad for help.

Hi Barbara. Did you find any connection to Charles Wicks b. 1810 in England? His father was Thomas. The 1851 Ontario census has them with the surname Wix in Haldimand Twp. Charles, his wife Jane and I assume Charles' father Thomas born in England. They must have come to Canada between 1832 and 1836 from the ages and birth places of the children Thirza, Edwin, Emma, George, Jane Mary Ann and Charlotte.
