Julius A. Wiese died May 25, 1924 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Kurtz, in Toledo, OH. His wife, Augusta, died in June of 1929 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Brown, in Saginaw, MI.

They had lived in Saginaw, Michigan, for quite a while, where my Wiese family lives. Julius had a nickname, "Schooster". Not sure of spelling. I believe Julius and Augusta had a grandson who became a minister in Oregon. I'm looking for more info on the family, and living relatives.

Greetings, this may be my great grandmother who was born Emma Bein and married Ferdinand Wiese, and they lived in Avoca Iowa and the immediate area. I will show others the photo and see if they recognize her?? I have a photo of her when she was much older, to try to compare to.

Manning, where photo was taken, in in Carroll County, which I know she spent some time in, as that is where others that she knew lived, and it was two counties away from Avoca in Pottawattame County.
Are there any other clues in the photo or on the back?

How nice that you took the time to post this photo!
Thank-you!
Judith Schulz

I don't have a Julius Wiese in my family history, but if you visit the family tree, C. Jones + L. Maus at ancestry.com, you can send a request to view my tree. The Wiese family in my tree, indicates: Johan (John) 1818-1893; Carl William who stayed in Prussia, somehow employed in the govenment there; and Michael Wiese 1821-1898. They may have had sisters, I don't know.
John Wiese married Louisa Hintz, while still in Prussia; had a number of children there, some of whom apparently died there; in 1854, arriving on Christmas Day. From a relative's family history: "When Johann and Louisa were married in Prussia, they had a three day celebration and an entire Wiese band played music for the occasion. Johann Wiese was a shipbuilder and a mathematician for the Prussian government. The Wiese and Hintz people both were government employees in Prussia. Johan worked for the Chancellor of Prussia and gave one or two speeches a year. Johan and his brother, Michael I, were Prussian guards to Kaiser Wilhelm's Regiment. (August Wiese used to say he was a 42nd cousin to Kaiser Wilhelm.)

Johann and Louisa left Germany so their sons would not have to go into the military service which was compulsory. They went to White Prussia for the required waiting period prior to coming to the U.S. The boys in Prussia had to spend 1/2 day in school and 1/2 day in the military. An aunt came to U.S. with the Wieses. {Barbara doesn't know if the aunt was from the Wiese or Hintz side of the family}. "

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have connections!
I've only recently married into the family, and started searching. I hope you're still "out there" and looking in on these posts!
I have William A. Wiese, son of Julius and Augusta Wiese, born in Rochester, MN, as reported on his marriage license in Spokane, WA, 1903. On this license, He lists his parents as Julius Wiese and Augusta Wurch.
Have you any further information on the Wieses?

Hi RandallMcDaniel44 -

My grandfather (William Wiese) had a sister named Emma. She was born in Nebraska (likely Washington County) in 1882. She married Thomas Kniep. She died in 1912 and is buried in the German Cemetery in Washington Cty, NE. I am not certain that the photo you have is my great aunt, but there is a high likelihood that it is. If you wouldn't mind making a copy of the photo and the inscription on the back, I would certainly be willing to pay you for your time. If you can scan both and email them to me, that would be appreciated also.

Many thanks,
Bill Wiese

TO: R. J. WIESE ...

I'm very curious WHERE I might get access to this book ("Deutsches Geschlecterbucher"), so that I might find my WIESE's in the Posen area.

While I haven't had a lot of time recently to do in-depth research, I would really love to find out who the parents and siblings were for GOTTLIEB WIESE (b 22 Jul 1841, d 03 Apr 1904 in Honey Creek Township, Reynolds, White County, INDIANA) ..and.. his wife, Caroline Wilhemina ROSENTRATER (b 10 Dec 1844, d 05 Aug 1921 in Reynolds, White County, INDIANA). They were married in Posen/Prussia (about 1867), but I haven't been able to track down EXACTLY WHERE they came from.

Thanks for your help!
DIANE (GEIER) HARKINK
dharkink@msn.com

NCSieck,

If you would like to continue this line, my e-mail address is kluecke@hotmail.com.

This may not be a connection. My Lueckes come from Spanish Lake / Columbia Bottoms in northeastern St. Louis County. My Lueckes were originally Lutheran. Currently, my family of Lueckes is one of the few I know that was originally Lutheran. We have spelled our name as: Luke, Lucke, and Luecke over the past 150 years.

I'm not aware of any Harry Luecke that I'm related to. However, maybe the person is misnamed or it was a nickname used while he was a child. You never know.

There is a larger clan of Lueckes in the city of St. Louis that I think were originally Catholic. I think there was another Luecke family in northern St. Louis county that was originally Catholic. My mom recently met some people from this family.

The only Harry Luecke that I'm familiar with was Mary Frann's father. Mary Frann was on The Newhart Show back in the 1980s and I think here dad was an editor with the Suburban Journals.

Thank you
Kenn Luecke

From a Grand Island newspaper, Feb. 12, 1909, p. 5:
"Death of Joachim Wiese
Joachim Wiese, a well known resident of Center township five miles west of this city died yesterday morning at 6 o'clock of heart failure after an illness of six days.
Mr. Wiese was born in Holstein, Germany, and was 77 years, nine months and three days old. He came to this country twenty-six years ago and located on his farm west of the city. From about 1886 to 1891, he resided in Keya Pana county and then returned to his place in Center township to reside. Besides his wife he leaves three children to mourn his loss. They are Henry Wiese, residing near Wood River, Herman Wiese, residing on the home place, and Mrs. Chis Meier, residing near Wood River. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home."

Also from a Grand Island, Nebraska newspaper, Sat. Nov. 25, 1922, p. 5:
"Mrs. Katherina Wiese
Mrs. Katherina Wiese, widow of Joachim Wiese, passed away at her home five miles southwest of this city at about 7 o'clock Friday evening, death resulting from paralysis. About five weeks ago she suffered a paralytic stroke since which time she had gradually grown weaker. For the past several days her condition had been critical.
Mrs. Wiese was born in Germany on July 25, 1832, and was aged 90 years and four months at the time of her demise. She came in American in the year of 1881, and with the exception of about ten years spent in Keyapaha county, this state, has resided ever since in Hall county, a period of over 30 years. During her long residence here she became well known and was highly esteemed by all who knew her.
Her husband, the late Joachim Wiese, passed away 14 years ago and a daughter, likewise preceded the mother in death about 20 years ago. The surviving children are: Henry of Wood River, Herman, residing on the home place. Mrs. Chris Meyer, of Wieser, Idaho, as also 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will take place from the farm home of the deceased at 1:30 P.M. Sunday. Rev. Schumann officiating. Interment will be made in the Grand Island cemetery."

I also have the obituaries of Herman Wiese, Anna Hennings Wiese (wife of Herman), Alice (wife of Walter Wiese, maiden name Rohwedder)and Emma Wiese (daughter of Joachim & Catharina). I will send or post them if any one is interested. Unfortunately, this line is not mine!

The photo was taken at a photo studio in Manning Iowa, likely in the early 1900s. Maybe someone will recognize one of their ancestors.

Attached is a copy of the photo.
Re: Henry Wiese

Here is a possible listing for your Henry Wiese:

Name: Henr Wiese
Arrival Date: 16 Sep 1867
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1849
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Bremen, Germany
Destination: United States of America
Place of Origin: Prussia
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Prussian (German)
Ship Name: Deutschland
Search Ship Database: Search the Deutschland in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Port of Arrival: New York
Line: 30
Microfilm Serial: M237
Microfilm Roll: M237_286
List Number: 980
Port Arrival State: New York
Port Arrival Country: United States

If this is the person you want, you may have some difficulty since he departed from Bremen, and the Breman records have been destroyed for those earlier years. Have you done a search for his naturalization records, or for his marriage records, or any of the records from this country? That is where you could most profitably begin. It was with local records that I learned enough to find my great grandparents in Germany.

For my Wiese family I found that spelling of the name was the biggest problem. I have three or four spellings of the surname, and given names were sometimes in German form, and sometimes in English form. My 2nd great grandfather, whose name was Joachim (Jochim, Jochem) was listed on one US census as James.

Good luck with your search. If you would like a picture of the manifest page, please send me your personal email address, and I will send it as an attachment.

emwiese1@comcast.net

Gene

I'm also trying to find information about Anna Whilhelmine Mittelstadt...and believe she is my great-great-great grandmother as well.. when she was married to Johann Gottleib Wiese her oldest son Rudolph August Wiese would be my great-great grandfather. Please reply if you get this message.

Dear Wiese7219,

On a trip to my parents home, I discovered an old photo album. Unfortunatly, there are no names on what I bleive to be Wiese relatives. There is a picture of one of Rudolph Wiese pharmacy stores and a picture of 5 pharmacists. Also, a picture of a Union Civil War soldier. In your research, did any of the Wiese family paticipate in the war? All the photos were taken by a Milwaukee Company.

Do you know of the Missouri Death Certificates on-line?
It is: www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates
you can see the death certificates on-line of deaths from 1910 to 1956, but they are still working on them so dates from about 1942 to 1945 are still missing but will be filled in monthly until they are done.
It is a great source of information for people who died in Missouri in those time periods.
I have Gerling's in my family tree, but I don't recognize those names. I don't know the siblings of my great-great-grandfather, Friedrich W. Gerling who married Maria Berghorn. They lived in Franklin County Missouri about 50 miles south of St. Louis, MO.

Yes that is my Henry Wiese. I was wondering if you or
anyone else knew what ship he came over on and what
his parents names where. They were my Great Grandparents
on my father's side of the family. I don't have a
picture of them. Thanks for the information

When my husband's maternal grandmother died, I was given her personal papers. Among them were two photographs which may be of interest to you. One is of a middle-aged lady you is identified as Mrs. Wiese. The other is a photograph taken in St. Louis, Mo of a very young blond-haired boy. It is labeled Harry Lucke (or Lueke) both of which could have been an incorrectly spelling of Luecke. I would very much like to see these photographs back safely into the hands of a descendant.

Fred Fleer's aunt, Mrs. Wiese

My husband's grandmother labeled a photograph "Fred's aunt, Mrs. Wiese." Fred was Fredrich Henry FLEER. He was born 10 Feb 1890 in St. Louis where he died 4 Jul 1941. Since research "suggests" that his father was an only child, Fred's aunt would have been his mother's sister or the wife of one her brothers. His mother's maiden name was Wilhelmina Friederika SCHAEPER. According to her father's will, her brothers were Henry William , William Stephan and Albert Herman. If she had a sister she was not living in 1894 when her father's will was written. I would LOVE to get this photograph back in the hands of a descendant.
