WAPELLO, Iowa - Lawrence Wayne "Huck" Wiley, 77, of Wapello, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center. Services will be at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. The Rev. Judy F. Gingerich will officiate. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun, with military rites by the Wapello VFW. Pallbearers will be B.J. Wiley, Matt Wiley, Seth Wiley, Jeff Wiley, Isaac Wiley, and John Zdeb. B. J. Wiley will provide the music. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Youth League. Mr. Wiley was born Dec. 29, 1922, near Oakville, the son of Harvey T. and Esther Fisher Wiley. He married Blanche Fisher on Aug. 3, 1953, in Davenport. She died May 3, 1976. He graduated from Morning Sun High School, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He worked for the Iowa State Highway commission for more than 20 years. He was a member and past commander of the VFW Glenn Allen Post No. 5166 of Wapello. He enjoyed working on lawn mower engines and listening to music. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren, driving them around and watching them participate in their various activities. Survivors include a son, Russell Wiley of Wapello; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three brothers, O.E. "Tobe" Wiley of Wapello, Richard Wiley of Muscatine and Gary Wiley of Abington, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Wilda and Blanche; a son, Thomas; a granddaughter, Susan; and two brothers, Paul and Ted.
