Surnames: Wilkins, Upton, Stevens
Thomas Wilkins, son of Thomas(3)Thomas(2)Bray(1) Wilkins and Elizabeth Towne was born March 21, 1699/1700 in Boxford, Essex County, Ma. and died in 1767. He married lst. Meriam Upton June 13, 1728 in Reading, Middlesex County, Ma. daughter of Joseph Upton and Abigail Phelps. She was born ca 1700. He married 2nd. Esther Stevens March 5, 1745/46 in Andover, Essex County, Ma.
Notes:
#1 The Boxford, Ma. Vital Records says that Thomas and Meriam were married in Reading, Ma. and the Salem, Ma. Vital Records says they were married in Peabody, Ma. Since the Upton family was from Reading, Ma., I believe Thomas and Meriam were married in Reading and not Peabody.
#2 The Middleton, Ma. Vital Records says Thomas and Esther were married at Andover, Ma. in 1735 while the Andover, Ma. Vital Records says they were married in 1745/46. The Middleton vital records lists all the children named below except Samuel as being Meriam's children with the last being born in 1743 so obviously Thomas and Esther could not have married in 1735.
#3 I searched all the published vital records for all the towns in the counties of Essex, Middlesex and Suffolk, Ma. for a Stevens who married an Esther and came up empty handed but what I did find was an Esher (Esther) Stevens born to a Samuel Stevens and an Elizabeth Barker in Andover, Ma. in "1711/12?". Even though this Esther would have been about 34 or 35 years old when she married Thomas and marrying for the lst time she appears to be the only Esther Stevens around and within the right marriageable age at that time.
#4 I have not been able to locate any land/property records for Thomas up until this time.
#5 Thomas signed his will July 10, 1766 and it was probated June 2, 1767. In it he mentions his wife Esther; sons Thomas and Samuel; daughters Bathsheba, Hannah Stevens, and Meriam Hoye. LDS FHL's Essex County, Ma. Probate Records Microfilm # 0875027 Vol. 344 pgs. 77, 103, 485, 488.
#6 Guardianship of Thomas's son Samuel was granted to his mother Esther on Oct. 6, 1767. LDS FHL's Essex County, Ma. Probate Records Microfilm # 0875027 Vol. 344 pg. 232.
