Hello. I am Carl Wilkowski.

I live in Northern England in the UK. I am third generation. My dad is called Peter and has a brother called Paul and a sister called Helena. Their father was called Bruno who had a couple of brothers (i think one was called Stefan?).
I believe they were originally from Krakow and the brothers joined the Polish Light Infantry. My grandad (Bruno) met my Nan (Mary Williamson) during the war and when it ended, they settled in Carlisle.

Hello, Kristy!

Thanks you for the message. I'm really impressed with your research. I think you have found Walenty Wilkowski I'm looking for. I think it's better to communicate via e-mail (ancestry doesn't work that well). My e-mail: jakulab@gmail.com . If you want, I can send you a photo of Walenty Wilkowski and his daughter, it might be helpful.

Greetings,
Jakub

Hi Jakub,
Thank you so much for the info! I sent you a message through ancestry listing the Walenty's and Valentine's I have come across while looking for my Wilkowski line. I also sent links for the two cemeteries where my Wilkowski family in Chicago is mostly buried-St. Adalbert's and Holy Cross Cemetery. Let me know if you don't get the info. I haven't really tried much messaging through ancestry.

Regards,
KWW

Hi!

Thanks for your reply. A group of Polish and international genealogists created a website with a marriages from 1820-1889 database - http://bindweed.man.poznan.pl/posen/search.php. I don't know if you know this site, but it's very helpful. I found your ancestors there - Heliodor Wilkowski (born c.1843) and Eleonora Ryl (born c. 1844). They get married in 1872 in Gębice near Mogilno. Heliodor's parents were Ludwik de Wilkowski (this "de" means that he must have been a nobleman?) and Joanna Lewandoska. Eleonora's parents were Ludwik Ryl and Rozalia Żołnierkiewska.
I don't have any relatives in Mogilno areas (where your ancestors get married), so I presume, that we are not related. However, everything is possible, so let's keep in touch.

Regards,
Jakub

Hi,
I am from a Wilkowski line from Posen, Poland as well. I don't know if we are related, but contact me and I will share info. I have copies of some records from this family's bible, but they are very difficult to read and are written in Polish. I also have some Polish obituaries from Chicago and have a brief sketch my dad has pieced together:

My ancestor was Heliodor Wilkowski born in the Posen-Poznan area in 1842. His father's name was Louis Wilkowski? and mother Joanny Lewandoska? Heliodor married Eleanora Ryl who was born in the same area in 1845. Her father's name was Ludwig Ryl and mother Rosalil Zolnierkiewicz. One of their daughter's came over in 1878 to live and work for a wealthy relative whose name is unkown in Pennsylvania. The rest of the family slowly immigrated in the 1890's. Heliodor had the title of Von added to his name - Von Wilkowski? He was a notary in Prussia. Other known children immigrated in 1888 and 1890. The parents came last in 1896 and 1899. Family settled in Chicago. Don't know if we are related, but there is a good chance!

KWW

Hello!

My greatgratgrandmother's brother Walenty Wilkowski emigrated to the US in the late 19th century. In 1886 he was already in US. Originally he was (as whole Wilkowski family) from Kostrzyn near Poznan (Kostschin near Posen in German), Poland (then Germany). I think I have one photo of him sent from Chicago. Do you have such person in your family??

Regards,
Jakub Łabędzki

Hello!
I'm interested in Wilkowski family, too. I'm from Poland and I live near Poznań (Posen in German). My Wilkowski ancestors have lived in Kostrzyn near Poznań since early 1700s or even earlier. One of my greatgreatgrandmother's brothers - Walenty (maybe his name would be spelled Valentine in English?) Wilkowski emigrated to the US. I don't know exactly when, but surely in 1886 he was in America. I have a lot of old photos from 19th/early 20th centuries, but I can't recognize anyone because the oldest members of my family are dead. In the one of the photos there is a grave and a signature in Polish "it's aunt Mary Wilkowski's grave". Maybe it would be a trace? I don't know how Mary and Walenty Wilkowski were related. I have one photo of a man from Chicago and I'm almost sure that it is Walenty. I've got a photo presenting young girl on her First Communion day. All of those photos were taken in Chicago.

All the best! Answer, if you have any clues.
Jakub Labedzki

Hi! My grandfather was Arthur Wilkowski, brother to your grandfather Otto. We lived in Washington near your grandparents and I was a spoiled favorite of your grandfather. He came over often to sing and always had licorice in his pocket. I adored him and Aunt Gertie. After they moved to Alabama, I wrote letters back and forth to Uncle Otto up until his death. He sent pictures to me of a stone bench and a bed with a black widow design that he made in Alabama. Years ago I met your Aunt Jeanette, your brother Fred and corresponded for a time with Roy & his wife who had twins as I did.

Tina: I think the Sophia whom you're inquiring was my Dad's first cousin if she was a daughter of Valentine & Mary Wilichowski (nee Rzepinski) in Marathon Co., WI. Mary was a sister of my grandmother Antoinette (Antonina) Wozniczka in the Rzepinski family of four.

I was told that there were 12 children in Valentine & Mary's family in which Sophia was. Rootsweb.com's website lists 7 children (first name known for 5) for Valentine Wilichowski in WorldConnect (link) and some of their descendants.

This is all I know about Sophia. Again, if this is the same Sophia Wilichowski, it is interesting to learn about Leo Socha and their Edgar Tavern. I have more information on the Rzepinski family and Sophia's cousins if you wish to have it. Best wishes. Truly, Denny Wozniczka

Mary Anna and their two daughters MARY ANNA (born 7 July 1884 in Prussia) and FRANCEZKA (born 28 August 1887 in Prussia) came in 1891. They lived in Chicago for about a year and then Joseph went to the township of Cassel, Marathon County, Wisconsin to build a home. Mary Anna came about a year later with their now three daughters, Mary Anna, Franceska, and now Anastacia (born on 25 February 1892 in Chicago, Cook county, Illinois)

Joseph and Mary Anna had five more shildren, all born in the township of Cassel, Marathon County, Wisconsin.
---STANISTOWA "Stella" ELLEN Wilichowski was born on 22 September 1895, she married Wiliam Richard Bedynek on 30 June 1920, she died on 20 August 1978 in Marathon, Marathon County, Wisconsin.
---FRANK Wilichowski was born on 8 January 1894
---MARTHA Wilichowski was born 12 June 1898 and married Richard Johnson in September 1922
---JOHN Wilichowski was born on 26 May 1901
---ANTHONY Wilichowski was born on 21 May 1899

I would be very greatful for any help in finding more information about this family.

Thank you
Amber

Would like to hear from anyone researching the Wilkowski sisters in my branch of this family: Augusta Wilkowski Borski (my great grandmother), Suzanna Wilkowski Formella, Rosalia Wilkowski Domeracki, and Antonina Wilkowski Budzisz. They immigrated from the Zielona Gora region of Silesia in the late 1800s.

My great grandfather Robert Borski married Augusta Wilkowski in Chicago, 1882. Robert's brother, Aloysius, married a Carolina Dreier before they immigrated to the U.S. I am under the impression the Wilkowskis may have come from Silesia and the Borskis either from Silesia or Poznan. I don't see a connection other than some coincidence with the Wilkowski and Dreier (multiple spelling variations) names...do you see anything?

I came across a Mitchell Wilkowski in Denver, Colorado.
He married a Mary Wilkowski. She had a son and maybe
a daughter. He adopted them both and they went by
Wilkowski. When I came across their name it was spelled
Wilkowsky. Mitchell and Mary divorced and he then lived
in Farmington, New Mexico and the Durango area of
Colorado. The interesting part is that he was a blind
piano tuner. He lost his sight when he pulled on a wire
clothes line and it cut both of his eyes. Could this
Mitchell be apart of the Oklahoma clan?

Stanley Wilkowski Detroit MI

I'm researching my Uncle's father's family. Stanley Wilkowski came the the US in 1910. He was possibly born about 1892 in Lodiz, Poland. His parents origins were: Father- Lodiz Poland, Mother- Warsaw Poland. He spoke Russian. I don't know if he was married when he came to the US or married afterwards. He servered in WWI and worked as a Machinest in Auto Factory. His first marriage ended in Divorce and I believe he had children. In the 1930 Census, Detroit MI, Stanley Wilkowski was living as a boarder in the home of Cassie Nawrocki (my grandmother) it states his age as 38. In 1933 Stanley and Cassie were married, a marriage arranged by Cassie's sister Stephanie Bojanowski. They had a son Stanley Jr. (my uncle) in 1934. They divorced in 1938.
I am researching this information because my uncle is the last of his family, he has no children of his own and I feel it is important that this research be done. If any of this rings a bell or if someone has information, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Dear Sandy,

My great-grandfather was Joseph Wilkowski (b. 1850) from Konitz, Germany (Prussia at the time). Emigrated to U.S. in 1866 through Port Huron, MI. He was married to Veronica Grates and lived in Bay City, MI, and Alpena, MI. I believe he was related to the Wilkowskis of Otter Tail. I think one of his relatives was an Adam Wilkowski. Any chance you know of Joseph or Adam?

Mary Luthy

Dear Sandy,

My Joseph Wilkowski was born in 1850 in Prussia, but I believe he may still be related to Stephen. Sometimes those census figures are incorrect. Joseph emigrated to Michigan in 1866, arriving in Port Huron. One of his wife's nephews was named "Gorman," and I think it may have been after Gorman Cty, MN. Thank you for any information you can provide me with. I've already received Stephen's Declaration of Intention from MN; that's all I've got so far. Please let me know if you need more contact info for me. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to give that via the message board, or if all info has to pass through the message board.

Mary

However his son Adam who was born in 1865 in Michigan, (plus another 7 children) came back to Michigan. I have an extended family from all over the state. From the Upper to the Detroit area.

Maybe we have a connection
I'll look forward to hearing from you.

Wilkowski, he was born in Dec. 1896 in Hubble Michigan. Joseph father was Adam Wilkowski born in 1865 in Michigan. Adam's father was Stephen Wilkowski born in Poland entered the US via Minn in 1864. I know this because we still pay taxes on the property that Stephen purchased in OK. My mother has passed away however I still have 5 aunts and uncles that are Joseph children who I speak to almost daily. I would love to exchange information. I also would love to contact Kate Wilkowski and find out how she is related to us.
I'll be waiting to hear from you.

Thanks

Sandy

I first found them in the 1870 census of Huron County in Michigan. There is a Joseph living several doors down. The census lists Joseph age 27 which would put his birth around 1843. Is this your GG-Grandfather it states he was born in Poland/Prussia? If this sounds familiar let me know and I will give you as much information as I have on the Wilkowski family.

I have much information that you would be interested in. My e-mail address is pwilkowski@msn.com. Karl and Matilda Kirsch Wilkowski had 8 children. Otto is the the oldest son and Arthur is the youngest. Jeanette is your aunt and we talked by phone this spring asking if anyone in the Otto's family was interested in family history.
