My 4th great grandfather was Nicholas Willey(1830-1882) He was born in Switzerland, came to Davenport Iowa in 1952, married Elizabeth Ruhl in 1854, and they had 11children( Naomi, Alfred, Henry, Gottlib, Theodore, Mary, Frederick, Froma, Henrietta, Marie, and Antonettia)

Nicholas's father was born in Switzerland and his mother was born in Italy. That is all I know of them so far. If anyone had any information regarding them it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Anne,

I am looking for information on a Peter Willey or Willeye, born 1519? in Lincolnshire. He apparently went to Cambridge and graduated as a Man of the Cloth in 1531. From there, he went to Cornwall, where I can pick up most of his trail. Do you have anything back that far?

I would love to email you privately, but I haven't figured out how to do that on this site without becoming a paid member or putting my private email on this public page! If you know how to do this let me know. We have a family tree connection and I was excited to find you on this thread. Let me know if you have more knowledge on navigating ancestry.com.
In the book History of Bond & Montgomery Counties Illinois under City of Greenville. Edited by Wm. Henry Perrin 1882 it states: Willey, John F., William W., and James W., brothers. That is where I got that confermantion on the two. Who do you have John F. married to??? Did he have a second marriage??? Just wondering!!! Thank you for the idea of approving me. I will go there and give it a try ;-). I have not done any research on my own stuff for years. I have done things for others but not my own.

Yes foster children are great additions to family. My oldest son is a foster. But his current wife does not want him to have anything to do with us so we have lost him after 20 years. He was 17 when we got him. He was a mess but was my number 3 child number 1 son at the time best friend and it really has hurt him something awful. But we are close and we have talked so Steven is getting Ok with the dicision Bryan has made. I was never paid by the city or state the high school sent these kids to me. The vice principal would send them to me. I had 35 kids come through my door. I am in touch with about 25 of them. Some stayed for a couple of nights some stayed for a year. Some just came off and on whenever they needed a Mom. And they are still doing it. They are all in their late 40's now. I am in my 71st year and very thankful that I am still around for them. Only 1 went to prison and 2 have passed. The others are very successsful people and I am very proud of who they all have become. Thank you for the compliment. God is good.

I'm not sure we're related either, but I have seen it mentioned (speculated?) that there was a brother named Thomas to John F and William (Sr) Willey. John F and William were involved in the Natchez Trace survey. I do believe Thomas was related (just not positive he was their brother), although I tend to lean that way....so it confuses me when you say the Thomas Willey from Dickson Tennessee's father was Thomas. I was fairly certain it was Joseph. I hope someday to be able to spend time on that...but for now, I'm still trying to track fairly newly discovered family relations (Jane and Harry/Harvey Willey who could have been mom/son -- but respective DsOB off a bit) to my William Abe.

I wish you the best!

So...I do have William Green in my line...he is the son of Wilson Willis, brother to my John F and brother to James Williamson (all lived in Tennessee and Illinois). I found several census' with William Green (a couple of which were in Kansas). I've been trying to find out if William Green is somehow related to the Jane Willey and Harry/Harvey Willey I found living in the same household as my William Abe.

Anyway, Wilson is son to William who is son to William who is son to Joseph. That is as far as I have been able to prove. I believe my line is accurate as well as another Willey researcher, Rebecca Hitzman (line = Adam/Lawrence...). I hope this helps!! I'm glad you responded to the post! Oh, if you want access to my line (Willey/Ortiz), just do a request from Ancestry; I will approve it.

One other thing...I think it's completely awesome that you have foster kids!!

Hi!
I believe my Willey line is related to a William Green! At least, if my William Abe is the same as William A from Bond, Illinois! I'm still trying to hunt down a Jane Willey (B about 1846) and Harry or Harvey Willey (B about 1867).
Having no luck with either of them. I actually thought Harry/Harvey could be related to William Green.

And all of my Willey family is definitely from the Southeastern corner of Kansas!!! Pittsburg area.

Oh. I am 99% certain I found some records on William Green. I think a census. I'll have to look!

I live in Littleton, Colorado (near Columbine Hight School...moved here about a year prior to the shooting - Ugh!).

We are going to have to share info! I'm really glad you responded to this posting!

BTW...I have NO idea of the middle name of John F. I had made an educated guess that it was Franklin, but it certainly could of been Fred. Also, My Grandpa's twin brother had the middle name of Monroe.

I really LOVE this stuff!

So hard to research sometimes with so many names that are alike and the records being burned etc. Let us keep going in this direction, one never knows what will happen.
I was wondering if John F. is one in the same as Fred. I do not know but don't want to be the fly in the ointment either. Will have to dig out all my printed material and read up on that......where in Kansas were your folks. My great grandparents were in Kansas also. William Green Willey was in McCune Co. Kansas. It is in the south east corner of Kansas. I have written to the historical society and they have no record of them there but I have a card from WGW that he was in the Grand Old Party because he was in the Civil War. The post was in McCune, Kansas. He eventually moved to Portland, Or. and then onto White Salmon, Washington. Where he died but was buried in Portland, Or. Along side my ggrandmother Caroline Plant Willey and his son George Lewis Willey. I have never known who Wilson Willis Willey's parents were or anyone further back. Would love to know. I have gone to the family tree on rootsweb and wondered which one was the truth. And the one that was most researched. Do you have any clues??? I will start digging on Monday. I work at the Webster Co. Museum tomorrow and every Friday afternoon, here in Missouri. I will be out of town over the weekend. I live out side of Marshfield about 17 miles northeast of there. I was born and raised in Portland, Or. married a military man and have lived all over the place. Have a grandson who was raised in Crested Butte and Gunnison Co. Are you anyplace there???? Have a foster girl in Colorado Springs too. Well she is in her late 40's now but still a girl to me. I have loads of fosters in their late 40's that now live all over the states. It is fun trying to keep up with them. Anyway I will start digging...there goes my clean desk I was making a good start on a clean dest for the New Year but now I will have piles all over the place, hehehe. Love this stuff....I hope I can help you a little bit.
Not sure that we are tied to any of your Willey family but I thought since some names are similar and your side came through Tennessee it was worth a shot. I am GGG of Thomas W. Willey born in TN abt 1847 he lived in Dickson and Henderson and Benton County TN. His Father (also Thomas) was born in Pennsylvania around 1801 and died in TN in 1883. His Grandfather was John Willey. Thomas W. wife was Sarah Melinda Brown from TN abt 1851 and they married abt 1866 in Henderson Co, TN. They had 7 children William Franklin Willey (died in oklahoma), James Raymond Willey (died in Mississippi), Thomas M. Willey (died in TN - memphis), Robert Benjamin Willey (my GG grandfather, died in Tipton Co, TN), Ella M Willey (died in Tipton Co, TN), Ernest E. Willey (died in TN - memphis). Alll lived to adulthood.

As you see many are reuse of names that are also in your families so I wonder if there was a tie back at some point.

Thanks,
Dennis Willey

Hi there Jo!
Nice to meet you!

Well, I have not much to ad at this point regarding my Willey line:
Joseph Willey>
William Willey>
William Willey (brother to John, who died in Tennessee with will, mentioned brother)>
John F WIlley (who moved to Bond, Illinois along with brother Wilson Willis and James WIlliamson)>
Isaac Wilson Willey (whose son Jonathan Carroll is mentioned in book re: Bond, Illinois history)>
William Abe Willey (whom I am 98% sure is my Ggrandpa).

I've recently found some information that makes me question whether William A Willey shown in census with Isaac Wison in Illinois is really my William A (Abe). I'm trying to track down a Jane Willey and a Harry or Harvey Willey, but not having much luck (they were in the same household back in 1895 in Kansas)....this last bit of info has really thrown me for a loop!

Anyway, thanks for the addition of another brother! How were you able to trace Fred to Wilson Willis, James Williamson and John F???

BTW, Definitely try to follow Rebecca Hitzman's family line. She comes from the James Williamson line, and she and her mother have done some excellent, proven research!

I hope we are related! I love love love the idea I may have family all over the US. I'm in Colorado. How about you?

Best,
Jeri

They also had a brother Fred who was in Ill. when James joined them. I have only this line back to Wilson Willis Willey's Dad William Willey Sr. I would like some help in this matter. Do you have your line on Rootsweb?? I will try to get to it now. I need to get back to this research. I have not done any work for years. But this gives me some hope of get further back than what I do have. Thank you so much!!! Jo Slingerland

I am interested in the Hiram Willey listed in the previous thread.

I believe that I have a Hiram Willey who married "Mary". They had daughter Jennie May Willey and possibly son Thomas.

Jennie married Thaddeus A.R. Phillips who had family in Delmar. After marriage, Thaddeus lived in Newcastle DE where my GM was born. The family moved to Philadelphia about 1900 where Thaddeus and a brother built homes.

I noted that the Hiram listed was also a carpenter and also moved to Philadelphia where he died.

Re: Willey family in Brookfield NH

Hello. I am writing to inquire of you , if your Willey family/line are connected to any Tuscans or Toscans in NH or Maine? My name is Sally TUSCAN Foster from Solon, Maine. I have been researching my maiden name TUSCAN for many years to find out who the parents are of our John A. Tuscan b. 1787. He was first noted in Athens Me. on the 1810 census, and married Nancy Merrow that same year. They then moved to Bingham, Me. While in Bingham, Our John, was named along a man Turner Willey and John and Turner Superintended the school near them. They were mentioned together in town meetings of Bingham, Me. Now! Along with this, I know Turner and others lived in Brookfield NH. Another man lived in Brookfield NH at that same time named JOHN TOSCAN. He had been the Vice Consul from France to NH. Mr. Toscan travelled extensively and seemed to move alot. He married Eliz. French Parrott in or abt. 1790. So, Toscan lived and most likely knew Turner Willey in Brookfield and then Turner Willey moved to Bingham , Me and lived in the same town as out John Tuscan. So I and others in my family for various reasons wonder if our John may have been a son to Jean (John) Toscan , maybe out of wedlock and came to Bingham area with the Willeys to follow. A side note. My grandfather , my father's dad, was named WILLEY TUSCAN! So, those two names are put together. I feel there is some connection. Also the Spoffords and Gilmans all were in the same area. Our John is buried at Gilman Cemetery in Bingham, Me with his wife Nancy and there the Gilmans(Jonathan Willey aka David Gilman is buried there with his wife Fanny Gilman (aka Fanny Spofford) daughter of Hannah (Emerson) Spofford Hilton! There is alot that is not understood about all of these connections. If you have any information please do not hesitate to contact me at: saltuscanfoster@yahoo.com

Hi!

Well, you have a cousin and her mother (plus other family members) that have thankfully done a ton of work on your very line! Her name is Rebecca Hitzman. I believe most, if not all, of her work is accurate. My line, James Williamson's brother, John F., is also accurate, I believe. Neither of us has really been able to (with proof) to get back farther than Joseph Willey which would be (off the top of my head) 3 generations back from John F and James Williamson.

I totally agree with you! Their naming conventions back then make it really really difficult to follow!

I have put aside the (male) side of my various lines for now. I needed a break (e.g., Willey line confusing and difficult to follow...and many records from the around the time I'm searching have been destroyed). Anyway, I'm trying to follow various families from the female sides of my lines. I've discovered they are just about as difficult. I am having a heck of a time trying to find family for John F.'s wife Millie/Milly Margret Morrison. Ugh. It's never ending.

My suggestion to you: Definitely follow Rebecca Hitzman! The specific tree name is something like "Adam/Lawrence..."

Stay in touch! And much luck to you!!
Jeri

Just to add to the confusion... My father was James Williamson Willey, Jr.1932-2001 Grandfather James Williamson Willey, son of Warren Monroe Willey, son of James Williamson Willey, 1818-1896, who had six wives! The last was Elizabeth Vineyard Merry (Edwards) Her oldest daughter, Mary Ellen Edwards married JWW's son Wilson Issac in 1867. They homesteaded in Nebraska. According to JWW's obit, he was born 1818 to a pastor in Dickson, moved to Bond Co, Ill in about 1838 to join brothers John F and Wilson W. I get confused from there (did these people not have baby name books?) because of the name 'recycling' and the dates don't add up... Keep posting ya'll, we'll figure it out!

Thank you Carol. That is very interesting. I am writing a biography of John Henry Stover Funk, and have been baffled by the Willey family for some time. Funk took a job as a doctor in Marion County in the spring of 1860 after graduating from the Winchester Medical College. There he met William J. Willey and fell in love with his daughter, who he called "Venie". I have about 40 letters from and to Funk while he was in marion County to back this up. William j. and Venie, however just seemed to vanish after that though. BTW, Funk rose from captain of his militia company to the rank of colonel, and died here in Winchester commanding the Stonewall Brigade in the Third Battle of Winchester in Sept 1864. My name is Jerry Holsworth and I live in Winchester. If you're on facebook look me up and become my friend that. I've written two books on Winchester during the war and both include Funk. I'd also like to get the primary sources you used for that information for my book. Also look up my name on Amazon and you'll see the books that I have written.

Lavernia married A.J. Morgan Dec 31 1866 in Pettis County, Missouri. So far that is all I have been able to find out about him. Lavernia was the 5th of the 6 children of William J. and Elizabeth Morgan Willey. Lavernia and her sister Elizabeth moved to Missouri with their parents in 1866 after the case against Col Willey was dropped for lack of evidence. He volunteered his services to the Confederacy and rose to the rank of Colonel in its army. In October, 1865, he was indicted by a Marion County grand jury on a felony charge for his alleged part for having, in May, 1861, burned the B&O railroad bridge spanning Buffalo Creek, near his home, to prevent the eastward advance of Union soldiers. He was captured and held prisoner for most of the war. In April 1866, the indictment was quashed because of insufficient evidence to prosecute it. About the same time Col. Willey moved to a farm near Sedalia, Missouri, where he died in January 22, 1868. By the way he was Waitman T. Willey's half brother - both their mothers died while they were small children.
So far I haven't been able to find out a great deal about the children of William J and Elizabeth and would welcome any information you are willing to share.
Carol

Wilson and Isaac also had a brother Felix and Fred...I believe. I do not have any information on your people. When I started doing this 20 some years ago. I did just direct lines because I wanted to do all of our families. My kids Dad died in 1984, I am married again so had his side and his first wifes side too. I am sorry that I cannot help you out with this. Have you tried talking to someone at the Historical Museaum in that county??? They could not help me one bit. So I hope to make a trip there one of these days to look at the newspapers. It is just trying to find the time...when my grands get a little older maybe I will have a few days through the week to go there and do the hunt.

Rain! Rain! Rain! Praying with you! Hi!
I'm Jeri. My great great Grandpa was Isaac Wilson Willey; his son, William Abe Willey is my great Grandpa; Floyd Isaac Willey is my Grandpa. I'm trying to find out who Jane Willey (born about 1838-1845) is. I'm also trying to find out who Harry Willey is. They are both listed in the 1895 Kansas census with my great Grandpa, William Abe Willey (and his 1st son, Clarence Loyd Willey). I'm also trying to find out who William Abe Willey's 1st wife was. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated!!. Wilson Willis, was Isaac Wilson's brother, I fairly certain. I live in a suburb of Denver, Littleton, Colorado.

Re: Fanny Willey born Exeter, NH abt 1813 m) Joseph Tilton 1834

Hello, I don't even know where to start. My furthest back ancestor was John A. Tuscan b. 1787(approx)either in NH, ME. or Mass. We have been searching for years to find out who his parents were. He arrived first on Censuses in Athens, Me. in 1810 and m. Nancy Merrow. We know nothing of her parents either. Can't find death or birth records of either. We know basic things of John. They moved to Bingham, Maine in 1812. They lived their raising their family until John died 1862 and Nancy in 1864, They were both buried in Bingham at Gilman Cemetery. They were associated with the WILLEYS! Turner Willey and John worked at tending the school in Bingham, Maine and were mentioned being in assoc. in Town meeting records, some meetings at John's house. Turner Willey was in Brookfield NH, his wife Esther Drew, and family lived in Bingham. Esther had a son Jonathan Willey, and was not Turner's son evidently. Anyway, in 1828 he , Jonathan changed his name to David Gilman and his wife, Fanny(Spofford)changed her name from Willey also to Gilman along with their whole family!! WHY? Anyway, they are also buried at Gilman cemetery with our Tuscan family. There is alot of puzzling things here. Our John A. Tuscan, some of us in our family believe Jean Joseph Toscan , Vice Consul from France to NH, was our John's father!! Perhaps out of wedlock. Anyway, Jean Toscan also lived for a time in Brookfield .. where the Willeys lived.. and now both of them, our John Tuscan, and Turner Willey and family also show up in the same place years later!! I believe there is a family connection. Do the Willey's know of any out of wedlock births? There are so many questions. The final kicker here is... my grandfather .. his given name was WILLEY!! Willy Ray TUSCAN! Do you know if we are connected and if so, how? Do you or anyone know if we are def. connected to Jean Toscan? Any information would be so appreciated. Thank you for your time.
