I don't know. I was looking for an Elizabeth Williams born in 1790 with a connection to the Polk family. In an old Polk history I found an Elizabeth Williams who married Josiah Polk around the right time and moved to Ohio which can't have been easy. It didn't say anything about her ancestry.
Cornelia

You have a lot of information. I did not know my grandfather (died when mom was 6) and my grandmother knew nothing of his family. Even his death certificate was geuss work (his dad's knickname used and no mother). Eventually I found them. With all you have on his parents look for the census records for that area. Go to the LDS Family History Library near you and they can help. Don't worry, they will not try to get you to join their church. Send for or get the original copy of your dad's birth. This usually has more information and even occupation. Also, place where living when born (address). This will give you a city directory to look for. Sometimes this also gives you the names of relatives living close by. Send for marriage certificates, death certificates, etc.
Hope this helps. I have Williams, but from Tennessee, Kansas, Arkansas. My husband's Williams came directly from Wales.

I am looking for my lost Mary Williams. She married James Thomas and they are found on the Panola County census in 1910 and by 1920 she is shown to be a widow.

James Thomas was the son of William Jackson Thomas, born: 1818 South Carolina who possibly was the son of Heskiah Thomas b about 1768. Wiliam Jackson Thomas married Nancy Jane Powers- a younger woman. Their children are:

Mira Elizibeth b 1857,
Nancy Jane b 1859
Elige b 1863
Matthew Lafayette b 1866
Alice b 1869
James b 1869 (my great grandfather)
John H b 1871

The children of Mary Williams and James Thomas are (possibly a Minnie), Elbert Washington Thomas, Jackson, Essie Florence and Nannie Lucille Thomas 1910- 1989 (My grandma).

I only have oral history (bedtime stories). My great-grandmother Mary Williams was Native American. She was raised by a traveling preacher by the name of "Ol' Bill? Ol' man?" Wiliams after her family's tribe was burned out (was this my grandmother or HER grandmother? So long ago but I LOVED her stories! I can only remember bits and pieces here and there. "when they came over the hill she looked back and could see her people for miles- for as far as she could see- so many people died from the pox and the fever", "she never gave up looking for her family". "she was beaten black and blue with a hickory stick if she spoke in her tongue" "Choctaw" Blackfoot from the Missouri side"

Grandma told me her grandmothers name was Nancy and her mamma's name was Cinderella (as a little kid I was impressed by a grandmother being named Cinderella!).

Things I remember talk of are Carthage, Nacogdoches, Dawson, Frost, "buried somewhere out west Texas", Missiouri, Tenn, "we climbed the tree's in the Carolinas", camping because of a covered wagon getting stuck with a broken wheel on the Red River and a woman jumping in after her child and drowning). Walker... Surname or Town?,

I was really shocked when I learned my family (from the beginning) didn't come from Navarro County, Texas! Names I remember, John Green? ("no, not your daddy"), Cinderella, "Not Nancy, her name was Nancy- you were named after MY mother and sister", the Ellis's, King's, Green's, Jaroe's. "the Thurman's are your pawpaws side- they were hillbilly's and farmers"

The only thing I know for certain is that Mary Williams is buried in Brushie Prairie- Near Navarro Mills. She passed away in 1938 when my mamma was two.

I have tried to get Birth Certificates and SS application information- no such luck. People who have been researchers for years have finally said: "good luck finding her"

Just wanted to share- again!

Best wishes in your searches...

Mary Essie

Looking for parents of John W Williams married to Eleanor Huitt (Huett) with son Eli who married Sarah J. Hyatt in or around Osgood Indiana in the 1800's. I think his father may have been named Richard Williams because he bought land in Ripley County, Indiana May 25, 1817. But am trying to confirm and find parents of both John and Richard. I am stuck trying to find ancestors for my grandfather Lewis Melvin Williams ( married Ida May Preble in Osgood about 1908). Anyone know anything about these people?

I find it interesting that you too have a William Williams with a wife named Lucinda. Here is information on our William and Lucinda perhaps they could be the same ones.

From the handbook of Texas:
WILLIAMS, WILLIAM (1803-1894). William (Bill) Williams, settler and soldier, son of Maria Priscilla and Thomas Williams, was born in Tennessee on October 25, 1803. By 1818 the family had moved to Missouri Territory (present Arkansas), and around 1819 they moved to Texas through what is now Red River County. They had close ties to and traveled with Chief Bowl and the Cherokees. Soon after coming to Texas, William and his brother Leonard were captured by Indians. Held prisoner for months, they eventually were released or escaped, finding their way back to settlements on the Red River. William offered his services as a soldier to Col. Peter Ellis Bean during the Fredonian Rebellion in 1826, for which he was awarded a land grant on October 30, 1834. As a volunteer in James Bradshaw's company, Williams saw action in the battle of Nacogdoches in 1832. He was in the Army of the Republic of Texas from June 22 to September 22, 1836, and was a ranger in Capt. Michael Costley's company from September 11 to December 11, 1836. Williams worked for the pacification of the Indians to prevent them from allying with Mexican forces. He formed the Christian church in Mount Calm in spite of declaring himself to be a Catholic upon entering Texas. Williams first married Mary Isaacs, who was part Cherokee and the sister of Nancy Isaacs, his brother Leonard's wife. In 1827 he married Cinderella Jane Shaw, the niece of Colonel Bean. William and Cinderella were the parents of fourteen children. By 1877 they were living next door to their youngest son, Y. L. Williams, east of Ranger in Eastland County. Blind for years before his death, William died on May 14, 1894; Cinderella preceded him in death in 1890. Both are buried in Ranger's Pioneer Cemetery.
BIBLIOGRAPHY: Carolyn Reeves Ericson, Nacogdoches, Gateway to Texas: A Biographical Directory (2 vols., Fort Worth: Arrow-Curtis Printing, 1974, 1987).
Do you have any info on the William Williams family of Morgan, Lawrence Co and Sharp Co. Ark? Had children Eliza K., Susan, Laura Belle and Nan prob more. Laura age 8 and Nan age 5 were living with McHalffey family in the 1880 Census in Morgan, Sharp Co, Ark. They are shown as orphans so William and (we think) Lucinda Williams had died by 1880. any info?

Jeanne

Hi Kim, My husband is related to this Williams line. Do you have any further information? I have that Jack B Williams is the son of John Bunyan Williams and Esther ___. John Bunyan Williams was the son of Oliver Collins Williams and Margaret C Storey. Oliver was the son of William Francis Marion Williams and Emily Whitlock. WFM Williams was the son of Patrick Williams and Lucy Nicholas of Union Co SC. My husband descends from Harvey J Williams, another son of Patrick and Lucy.
There are still lots of this family living in Lamar, Red River and Bowie Counties.
Thank you!!

I know your post was some time ago. I have done a lot of research about W. H. In fact, I found his homestead deed in the Dallas dated 1875. He was my great grandfather. My father (Henry) was Harry's son. I also have W. H.'s Yakima War military roster.

John Frank Williams AKA Frank M. Williams???

After extensive research, I am still still struggling to firm up the identify of my husband's grandfather. He seemingly may be the son of Nancy Lucinda Ragus and Charlie Williams; however, in all records I have, his name is listed as Frank M. Williams, not John Frank Williams. If anyone has found the name Frank M to be in error, please let me know. I certainly do not want to add to the confusion for my family by entering errors in our family tree.
Thank you to all who have helped in the past.
brendaj1945
