My cousin is the daughter of HESTER WILLIFORD, who was the brother of CHESTER WILLIFORD. Hester was born in Arkansas. He passed away in Memphis, TN in 1951 when my cousin was an infant; therefore she never had the opportunity to know her father or any of his family.
My cousin is seeking additional information on the WILLIFORD family, and is most eager to make contact with their families. She does not currently have Internet access, so I'm posting the following information for her and her family.
It is our understanding that COMMODORE WELLINGTON WILLIFORD was the father of HESTER. Commodore (known as Com) died around the age of 37. Commodore married a woman who's surname was BOOTH, though her first name is uncertain to us. According to the 1920 Census record for Lawrence County, Arkansas (Thacker Township), her name appears to be CANSADA L. WILLIFORD (or WILLEFORD). She is listed as a widow in 1920. The 1910 Census record for Sharp County, Arkansas (Jackson Township) has her and Com listed as "C.W" (for COMMODORE, age 28 then) and "C.L." (for Cansada, age 27 then). Both Com and his wife are listed as having been born in Arkansas. According to Census records, each of their parents were also born in AR.
Known siblings of Hester's were:
1. CHESTER WILLIFORD: Chester married a woman named PAULINE. Chester lived in Pontiac, Michigan in 1951 when HESTER died. Chester, along with his son, Bobby, attended Hester's funeral in Memphis. At that time, Bobby was around 6-7 years old. The 1920 Census has Chester listed as age 7.
2. THELMA WILLFORD: Thelma married a Mr. BROOKS, and was last known to have lived in California. The 1910 Census lists Thelma as age 1, born in Missouri. The 1920 Census lists her as age 11, born in Missouri. We've just located a family member of Thelma's in CA who is also looking to forward to hearing more from us, and hoping to learn more as to the whereabouts of other WILLIFORD family members.
3. LOUISE WILLIFORD: Last known to have been in CA. Unknown if she ever married or had children. Possibly went by the name or nickname of "Pet". The 1910 Census has "Pet" listed at age 4, born in Missouri. In 1920, there's a "Pet L." listed as age 14. We're only assuming at this point that LOUISE WILLIFORD went by the name/nickname of PET. Is there anyone out there who could clarify this?
