Hi,

Sos.mo.gov has online death certificate for Gale Hunotte, born 1890, in Matthews, Missouri. The spouse is listed with the name Ola.

I wonder if this is your Viola?

The Ruby Hunotte I remember was born in 1917. If Gale was born in 1890, I think a daughter Ruby born 1917 is quite possible.

I am thinking your Viola may have wed Gale, perhaps Gale was nickname for Pete? I don't know.

I did know Ruby rather well. Her daughter is a relative.

Came by this posting and felt like I needed to respond. Just by mere coincident. My father-in-law who is D.Vaughn (Jake) Williford married Lois Snider of Hawkins, TX. Not much is known about Jake's father because he died while his mother Zula was pregnant with Jake. I believe his father was named William. Jake had 2 sisters and 1 brother who is 85 and lives in Breaux Bridge, LA.. His sisters were Marteen and Wilma. Marteen died in 2007 in Big Sandy, TX. Wilma died in her early 40ies in Arlington, TX

George Washington Williford or Warren Co., GA, is believed to be a son of Benjamin and Charity Williford of NC then GA. George and his second wife Jenny Cowan had a son, George Washington Williford, born in 1847. I don't have any information on a George Washington Williford born later than that in my information.

Vicki Faciane

Dear cousin, Cheryl-- I have active contact with Henry D Williford's brother Wayne and know how to contact Everett, and Ben; as well as his 1/2 brother, Darwin, and 1/2 sister, Carolyn. Were you aware that Henry passed away about a year or so ago. Wayne attended the funeral and while traveling, he also visited with your brother in a Care Center around Twin or Rupert.

If you remember, Eva, is my Aunt. I met you in the late 1970's or the early 80's and had a nice visit with you then. I would be happy to communicate with you and help you get in contact with Henry's family.

I have numerous pictures of Eva's family, ancesters, and relatives. Larry K.
Looking for Missouri Willifords via Georgia and Florida

I am looking for the Willifords of Missouri who came via Georgia and Florida. I believe there were also some relatives in Tennessee.
My grandmother's maiden name was Lillian Williford, but she went by Grace. Her father was Ira Lloyd Williford, born in Swainsboro, GA. He had 11 or 12 children including James, Harry, Beatrice (Bee), Alma, and Bonnie. He was married to Sittie Belle Martin. His father was Franklin Hines Williford, born in Emmanuel, GA. He married Eldora Orlena Brinson and then Sarah Fields when Eldora died. Franklin's father was John S Williford. I do not know what the S stands for. He was in a Georgia regiment of the Confederate Army and had one arm shot off. His wife's name was Rebecca Ann Chester. They died in Florida.

If anyone has any information please contact me.

BRITTAIN BRITAIN BRITTON WILLIFORD & sons HARDY WILLIFORD, WYLIE WILLIFORD VA> SC>TN

So far as I know, I am not related to the WILLIFORD family, but they apparently were good, close friends of my ancestor JOHN WOFFORD Sr of Spartanburg, SC, son of ABSALOM WOFFORD & SARAH HOSEY.

JOHN WOFFORD Sr in his 1808 Spartanburg SC will indicates "my trusty friend" WILIE (Wylie, Wiley) WILLIFORD, son of BRITTAIN WILLIFORD, as co-executor of his will, along with two of his sons. The will was proved 1816 and WILIE WILLIFORD was apparently still in Spartanburg SC, but later moved to Giles Co TN and Maury Co TN.

HARDY WILLIFORD, and his wife CLAYEMONT witnessed the 1816 will of JAMES BENNETT Sr of Spartanburg SC (several of his children married Woffords). James Bennett Sr's will was proved 1825.

I have posted both wills on the Spartanburg Co SC Genforum website.

Also found this Rev War record:

BRITTAIN WILLIFORD, Giles County, Private - Sergeant, North Carolina Line, $80.00 Annual Allowance, $240.00 Amount Rec'd, Sep 25, 1833 Pension Started, Age 93 (1835 Rolls). Brittain WILLEFORD ws born 20 May 1742 (OS) in Southampton County, Virginia, but was residing in Spartanburg District, South Carolina when he enlisted. He applied for his pension on 256 Nov 1832 in Giles County. His son Willis WILLEFORD made an affidavit on 20 Nov 1832 in Giles, declaring that he was age 59 on 14 Jun 1832, and that his father had moved from Spartansburg to Wilson County, Tennessee in 1815, and in 1816 moved to Giles County. In his affidavit, Brittain WILLIFORD referred to his son Wiley WILLEFORD of Maury County, Tennessee having his family bible. (Rev War Pension File S1740)

Does anyone know if any of the WILLIFORD family married into the WOFFORD family? Were they related--or just good friends?

Betty T

I realized I didn't tell you that my family was under the belief that one of the family members had killed someone in Wilson county and fled to mountains of NC and changed their last name to Piman at that time. Are you aware of any info about this incident? I'm still doing research as often as possible. Any info is appreciated. My grandfather was Dock Pitman.

Gary Hudson

Britton Willis who resided at one time in Pendleton County SC had a grandson named Uriah Williford Willis. If anyone has any information drop me a message.

Mike Willis

Benjamin Crawford Williford

I am looking for any information about Benjamin Crawford Williford's parents. Here is the information that I have so far:

Benjamen Crawford Williford
Born: 5 Oct 1872
Alabama
Died: 20 February 1934
Linwood, Pike, Alabama, USA

Spouse:
Julia Annie Sherrard Burks
Born: 26 May 1874
China Grove, Pike, Alabama, USA
Died: Alabama, USA

According to my Great-Grandfather the son of Benjamin Crawford Williford his father's parents were Bill Williford and Susan Hood. But due to the Elba floods in March of 1929 the records between 1830 to 1929 were mostly destroyed and the information about the Willifords has been lost. I have a lot of information that is word of mouth and was wondering if anyone else had more information that we could maybe discuss and maybe carry the family line past Benjamin Crawford Williford's parents. My e-mail address is juliebell99@bellsouth.net. Any help would be appreciated!
Re: Williford - Snider/Snyder Connection - Pike Co., AL

All the Willifords in Pike County Alabama were related. Therefore we are cousins. I am from the Willifords that stayed in Pike County Alabama and Benjamin Crawford Williford was my Great-Great Grandfather. He was born: 5 Oct 1872, Alabama and died: 20 February 1934, Linwood, Pike, Alabama. I have all the information for his children and I am working on their children and should have more answers soon. However due to the floods in Elba a lot of the vital records for the Williford family were destroyed and all we have is whatever records have remained or has been passed down through the family by word of mouth. I will be happy to share with you what I have learned if you contact me.

Re: Looking for Missouri Willifords via Georgia and Florida

I don't know if there is any connection, but my maternal Grandfather was a Williford..either Moye Eldridge Williford or Eldridge Moye Williford (not sure). He lived in Ben Hill County Ga. He had 6 children... Buford, Wendell, Lonnie, Louise, Christine and Ruth (my Mother). He was married to Wilma Hortense Lindsey. I have always been told that my Grandfathers (Moye) Mother was all or at least part Cherokee. I am having a hard time finding anything on this line. Would love to help you Jean or anyone on all this and would appreciate any info that anyone may have.
Thank you!

There are many John Williford and John Willefords. I have at least one from South Hampton, VA but he did not go to GA. I think there was a group of Willefords that did go to GA and then to OK. You might check on that line.

Nina Willeford Campbell
ncampbell@texoma.net
