Julian Wilmoth - NC/VA

My mother's daddy was named Julian Merritt Wilmoth, born 29 Nov 1909, supposedly around the South Hill, Va area. His parents names might have been Ervin (or Erwin)G Wilmoth and Beulah Jones. A few of his siblings are probably Virginia, Edwin, Gladys, Ralph, Kenneth, and Billy.

I got the information from my grandmother's Bible, however, I can't find any information about any of the Wilmoths, anywhere. Her name was Ora Edwards, from Spring Hope, NC.

If anyone can offer any information, I will be most appreciative.

I'm new at this hobby, so please excuse any of my ignorance that might show through.
I am not having any luck at all finding info about my mother's father's side of the family. His name is Julian Merritt Wilmoth, born around South Hill, Va 29 Nov 1909. He died 16 Apr 1977. His father's name was Erwin G Wilmoth, and his mother's name was Beulah. Her maiden name might have been Jones. Julian's siblings were Virginia, Ralph, Kenneth, Gladys, Edwin, and Billy.
I got this info from my grandmother's bible, and it's all I have to go on, and all I've been able to find.
Any ideas on how, and from who, I can get more information will be appreciated.

Wilmoth Family in Nova Scotia & Massachusetts

Looking to connect with anyone connected to Wilmoth/Wilmots of Nova Scotia.

My grandfather was Nelson Bernard Wilmoth born in Stellarton Nova Scotia, 5 Nov 1888. His mother died when he was young, probably between the ages of 3-5, and his oldest sister Margaret, brought him to Boston to live. My grandfather grew up believing that his father was also dead, but we now know, that wasn't the case. My grandfather had 6 siblings, and never met any of them except for one. I would like to try and find out information on his family.

My grandfathers parents were William Wilmot b. abt. 1851 and Isabelle/Isabella Hyndman dau. of Daniel & Margaret (Nelson) Hyndman.

Their children were:
1. Margaret Wilmoth b, 9 Apr. 1871 md. Cleveland Eldridge and lived in Cape Cod.
2. Jennie/Jeanette Wilmoth b. 1874 Stellarton NS, md. 21 Aug 1895 Stellarton, NS George Tye s. of William Barbara Tye. They had three children and still resided in Stellarton during the 1930's
3.Daniel Wilmoth b. 1879 Lunenburg, md. 3 Apr. 1916 Stellarton Cassie Bigney
4. John Wilmoth b. 1878 and lived in Holbrook, MA. he had a daughter Clarice Isabel Wilmoth that md. Bryon Faxon.
5. Charlotte Wilmoth went by Lottie Wilmoth.
6. William Wilmoth
7. Nelson Bernard Wilmoth b, 5 Nov. 1888 Stellarton md. 29 Dec. 1907 Gloucester, MA, Mabel Eliza Daggett dau. of Charles Jennie Rebecca (Lowell) Daggett.

If anyone has any information regarding any Wilmoth's /Wilmots in Nova Scotia, I would love to hear from You.

Jill Palmer
RPalmer835@comcast.net

Re: Anderson Wilmoth from Miss.

to burn the farm!!!
My father was Robert Henry Wilmoth, Sr. His brother was Anderson Andrew Wilmoth(who went by another nickname-which I cannot recall at the moment). My father left MS as a youth (as he said to seek his fortune/future). He asked his brother, Anderson to come as well, but he would not. My father was born in 1878, and your ggrandfather Anderson was 11 years older than my father. We knew somewhat of the Mississippi relatives, but not a lot. The parents of these brothers were Martha Ann Leach Wilmoth and Mack Wilmoth. You can find information on Mack's family in the MS 1850 and 1860 census. My father said his grandfather was called Mackie Wilmoth (the son was Mack, and the grandfather was Mackie) and he said he was an Irishman, and my father claimed to be Irish as well. I have been able to find that Mackie Wilmoth was born in NC in the 1790s. Mackie's first wife died, and he married again and had other chldren. Mack was his first born of the first marriage. (Mack also was married twice, but his first wife died shortly after they were married.) Mack died early as well. I believe the grandfather, Mackie, outlived his son, my father's Dad. My father expressed great respect for his grandfather. You can find records of Mack's marriage and other marriages of siblings on the Latter Day Saints Web Site. You can also find information on Martha Ann's family as the Leach family was large. I haven't been able to locate ggf Mackie in the NC records. It is remarkable that my gggf's birth is not very long after the Revolutionary War, but I think the fact that Mackie married late and lived long, as well as did my Dad- accounts for this.
Hope this helps.
In another you put Pleasant Mack Wilmoth was born in 1796 Caswell Co., Virginia. Please clarify. Thanks. I think you are an inspiration for many Wilmoths seeking their heritage.

I research my brother's Wilmoth line which came through Thomas...Nicholas...Eli.. etc. Is this the same group of Wilmoth's? I know for certain that I will be in Belington the weekend of July 22 for the Laurel Hill reinactment... I may have to stay a bit longer if possible. Let me know.

Terri

I remember the story of the Cherokee Indian in my family line. They say her hair was so long it drug on the floor as she walked. That's all I know, and unfortunately I am stuck on my Wilmoth line. I cannot find the parents of my great-grandfather, Conard Charles Wilmoth, born about 1902 in West Virginia. He married Estella Beulah Ashby in about 1924, and they had 8 children. One of them was Mildred Marie Wilmoth, my grandmother. There is only one of those children left, and he seems to think Conard's father's name was Epp, but he's not sure. Any direction would be appreciated. Thanks, and I hope to hear from you sometime soon.

Hello Louellen2004. I am the Great Grand-daughter of Rowena Wilmoth Wilmoth (She married her half first cousin). I don't have information of the Wilmoth line, your best source is Walter Wilmoth. He has done so much research on the Wilmoths.

My reason for posting to this thread is that I noticed that you have information on John Avery Pollard. I noticed that you have him born in Knoxville, TN and died in Memphis, Shelby Co.,TN. I think that there may be a mix up. My father, Clyde Avery Pollard (J.A.'s Son) might have been born in Knoxville, Tn but according to my Great Grandmother, Rowena, he was killed in a knife fight in either Cincinatti or Chicago. My father, Clyde, was bornin Knoxville, TN on 11/20/21 and died in Memphis, Tn on 4/27/97. I am very interested in John Avery and have had a hard time getting anything on him. Your dates seem right for the man who was my grandfather. Oh by the way my grandfather was married in 1913 to Ruth Wilmoth in Knoxville, TN.

This is a line that includes William Baylor Wilmoth, William Edgar Wilmoth, James Ruffin Wilmoth, Stephen Wilmoth, Lott A. Wilmoth, and down to Ezekiel Wilmoth.
With great sadness I share that our good friend and very thorough Wilmoth researcher, Sandra Tyler Duncan, passed away July 18, 2007. Sandra contributed much to the Wilmoth research and was always happy to share her sources. She will be sadly missed.
