Lajuana,

I just sent this WORD document to myself with no problems. It may not be going through the ancestry.com system because of the size. It's 22 pages long (Times New Roman with a 14 point font, so it's fairly large print).
I don't think I ever got any information on Sadie Wimberley!
I will be glad to email you this document if you will send
me your email address. Maybe I am just not attaching this
correctly to this ancestry.com "attach a file". Donna

Let me know if you get this OK. If not, I can send it as an attachment directly to your email, if you'll send me your email address.

Donna

Oups, for some reason, I am unable to attach this WORD file to this message board. If you will send me your email address, I'll just reply to your email with the WORD attachment. It may be that I am just too tired to figure this out tonight! It's 10:20PM and I am really tired! I saved this file on a UBS so that if anything happened to my computer, I would not lose it!
Wimberly/Wimberley DNA project

This is to encourage all the Wimberly/Wimberley men out there to check www.familytreedna.com and search the project for the Wimberlys. Four men have already submitted their DNA and it would be wonderful to get more participants. My mother-in-law was a Wimberley and I'd love to put some pieces together. DNA projects help!

Howdy, my newly discovered third cousin!!!!! I descend from Prudie's brother, Edward Grant.

Sorry for posting late, but I had technical difficulties. I could read your post, but couldn't post!

Your mother was Beatrice, correct? I think your mother had more siblings than that, but they might have died young -- or I have incorrect information?

Where are you, geographically? Florida? I know there are several Dees in the family, but I don't know how your father fits into that family.

I have all sorts of questions for you, and an interesting picture that you may or may not have seen. I think, emphasize think, that it is of James Riley and Prudence. If I am correct, it was taken before Louisa was born, but I bet your mother would like to see it. I would really love it if someone in your family could confirm my suspicions.

Please contact me directly at evalerieh@juno.com

Valerie
If you can get a male Wimberley to participate from your Wimberley-line by Dec 31, 2008, there is special pricing on some of the DNA tests. Quite a savings. The join link is:
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=U29011

Hiram "Ben" Cooper
Group Administrator
Wimberley/ly Surname DNA Project
hbcark@cox.net

Hi Ben.

Hopefully, BKWIMBERLY will consider participating in the Wimberly DNA project. I can prove Hezzie Wimberly's line to parents Andrew Jackson Wimberly and Sarah Adna Mills Wimberly to grandparents Zachariah Wimberly and 2nd wife Mary 'Polly' Reach/Rich Yates Wimberly. Zachariah Wimberly's first wife was Quinney Vaughan and they had quite a few children. I understand that many of that line migrated to Texas. If BKWIMBERLY is male, this would be a great addition to the DBA database.

Unfortunately, the connection from my husband to this Wimberly line is through his grandmother (a Yates) whose great grandfather was a half sibling to Andrew Jackson Wimberly through their mother, Mary 'Polly' Rich Yates Wimberly.

Kim Wrenn
Durham, NC

Thanks for the response, and please accept my apology for so long in answering. The Richard Essary I'm seeking was born in Bakersfield, CA. in 1948, don't know exact date. His younger brother, Ronald, was also born in Bakersfield. I think there is 8 or 10 years between them. I would love to be able to notify them of the upcoming reunion next year. Thanks again.
Hello June

I think we are NOT related, at least not very closely.

I have been looking for the ancestors of Zachariah Wimberley,
born in Wake County NC in 1787. He raised 17 children and
the 1st 12 went to Texas. I am descended from one of
those 12 - Pleasant.

I have quite a bit on the Wimberleys that are so well
documented from 1455. But I think you have all of that
already.

We are in Salt lake City at the genealogy center for a
few more days. We spend a month here each summer
but Friday is our last day to work.

Please reply to bruce@ywave.com

Thanks.

Bruce Hughes

Looking for Rachel Wimberley born ca 1715 in VA or NC

Hi all, I am searching for an ancestor of mine, Rachel Wimberley (or Wimberly), born about 1715 in either Virgina or North Carolina (Nansemond and/or Bertie Counties). Rachel married a Henry Harrell (born ca 1710, died before February 1777). I know that at least one of their children was a Rubin (Rueben) Harrell (b ca 1750--d after 1809) who married a Margaret (last name unknown).

I know that my Harrells eventually ended up in Union/Anson County, NC and married into a Marsh family.

But what I would like to find is more info on Rachel and the Wimberley family--her ancestry especially.

Any help would be very much appreciated!!!

Sincerely,
Patti

So very many similarities here.

My father's name is Robert Frank Wimberly. We live in Texas. His father's name was Charles Kemp Wimberly. I believe Charles' father's name was Marion. I have very little other information but would be glad to exchange what I have.
I have located Charles in the 1920 and 1930 census in East Texas Angelina and Polk Counties.
Re: Wake Co NC Wimberley / Wimberly Children of Zachariah

my husband did considerable research on Zachariah Wimberley
this summer at the Family History Library, and I've
forwarded your query on to him

our data suggests that "Jack" was born Andrew Jackson Wimberley in 1849 and married Amelia (maiden name not determined yet) in 1864; that's about the extent of our information on him

however, the only "John" Wimberley I find in my database was born considerably later; it's difficult to determine whether you are looking at two or three different individuals, or just one

we will be quite interested in your information on
Mary (Rich/Reach) (Yates) Wimberley, as we have less information on her, since hubby descends from Pleasant Wimberley,
from Zachariah's first marriage to Quinney Vaughn

there are some clues that Quinney Vaughn may have been part Native American; nothing conclusive yet

hoping to share more information ...

Candy
av8ryx@fairpoint.net

>
> http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wimberley/39/mb.ashx
>
> Message Board Post:
>
> Mary Rich/Reach married first Lewis Yates and second Zachariah Wimberly
> in Wake Co NC.
>
> I have narrowed the location of Zachariah Wimberly's homeplace down to a
> close general area, but if anyone knows exactly where it was, please let
> me know.
>
> Does anyone have informaiton about Zachariah and Mary's youngest son
> (born in 1849 or 1850)? I find him confusing as I'm seeing him listed
> under several names. Am I blending 2 different 'Jack' Wimberley's?
>
> He is Listed in the 1850 Wake Co NC Census on page in the home of his
> mother and called Jackson.
>
> He is listed in the 1860 Wake Co NC Census on page 59b in the home of
> his mother and called John.
>
> Listed as Jack in the 1870 Wake Co NC census on page 441b in the home of
> his brother.
>
> He is listed as Zachary in the 1880 Wake Co NC cenus on page 505b with
> wife Sarah and children in the home. 1880 census says they had 10
> children with 8 living.
>
> If it's them, Jack is listed as Andrew J Wimberly in the 1900 Wake Co NC
> census on page with wife and 3 youngest children.
>
> Kim Wrenn
> Durham, NC

Apparently Johns Father was also John and is from London England.
I am working on a Wimberley tree and have 400+ names. Much of my work is not verified so I will not publish it for some time.

I am currently researching the Wimberleys of Jackson County Alabama. The earliest known Wimberley family in this area is Joel and Jane (Harrell or Herrald) Wimberley, who settled about 2 miles east of Stevenson. They migrated from North Carolina (wherebouts unknown at this time). Joel served in the War of 1812 and received a land bounty warrant for acreage near where he settled in Stevenson.

If you have information on these Wimberleys I would be interested in hearing from you. I am especially interested in tracing the lineage back through North Carolina.

Laurie,

here's a website that may help

http://www.wimfamhistory.net/

I have found several Wimberlys I have been looking for here. Dont' just look at the group sheets, though, make sure you go through the index. I have found that this gentleman has alot of Wimberly information, but he may not have all of the family members tied together.

Also, I got the information I posted earlier from "The Stevenson Story" by Eliza B. Woodall. She notes in her book that there were other Wimberly children in Joel and Jane's family that are not written about because the left the Jackson County area. She does not have their names though.

Good luck in your search.

Joel Wimberly/Wimberley, squatter on Indian Land in Jackson County, Alabama

I am looking for information on the ancestors of Joel Wimberly/Wimberley, who was an early settler of what is now Jackson County, Alabama in the early 1800s when Alabama was still a territory. In "The Stevenson Story" by Eliza B. Woodall it is stated that Joel served in the War of 1812 in the North Carolina Militia, and received a bounty land warrant for his service. Joel's wife's name was Jane Harrell. Joel is on the list of Squatters on Indian land who were supposed to be removed by Andrew Jackson, but this was never carried out, and Joel and family remained in what became Jackson County, Alabama.

I am seeking his family in North Carolina. I think that his father's name was James Wimberley, but haven't been able to prove that out yet. I am also searching for a marriage record for Joel and Jane.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Wake Co NC Wimberley / Wimberly Children of Zachariah

Mary Rich/Reach married first Lewis Yates and second Zachariah Wimberly in Wake Co NC.

I have narrowed the location of Zachariah Wimberly's homeplace down to a close general area, but if anyone knows exactly where it was, please let me know.

Does anyone have informaiton about Zachariah and Mary's youngest son (born in 1849 or 1850)? I find him confusing as I'm seeing him listed under several names. Am I blending 2 different 'Jack' Wimberley's?

He is Listed in the 1850 Wake Co NC Census on page in the home of his mother and called Jackson.

He is listed in the 1860 Wake Co NC Census on page 59b in the home of his mother and called John.

Listed as Jack in the 1870 Wake Co NC census on page 441b in the home of his brother.

He is listed as Zachary in the 1880 Wake Co NC cenus on page 505b with wife Sarah and children in the home. 1880 census says they had 10 children with 8 living.

If it's them, Jack is listed as Andrew J Wimberly in the 1900 Wake Co NC census on page with wife and 3 youngest children.

Kim Wrenn
Durham, NC
