Debbie,
We spoke in 2003 after you contacted me directly. For the benefit of others who may be interested in this WIMER family, I'm going to repeat some of what we talked about. I didn't realize that I hadn't done it before on this message board.

Yes, you and I are first cousins. My dad Loren was one of your father's 7 siblings. I'm not one of the twins, but I'm their older sister. I also have two brothers.

Our grandparents Clarence Thomas and Hazel Kate (Wimer) Craig were 2nd cousins, NOT 1st cousins. Clarence was the son of Elizabeth Wimer Craig, daughter of Thomas and Mary Jane (Westmoreland) Wimer. Hazel Kate was the daughter of Franklin Benjamin Wimer, son of William and Flori Ann Rebecca (Westmoreland) Wimer. (Elizabeth Wimer and Franklin Wimer were 1st cousins.)

Thomas and William Wimer were brothers, and their wives (named above) were Westmoreland sisters (originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina). This Wimer line originated in Pennsylvania, but I don't know much more than that. Civil War military records for one of the Wimer brothers indicated that they were from Indiana County, PA, I think. Thomas and William's parents were Henry and Maria Wimer. I don't know Maria's maiden name.

My husband and I have moved from Dallas to Houston (TX), but my e-mail address is still thegypsies @ yahoo . com (remove the spaces in the address, of course).

Donna Craig Seidel

I'm also researching an Adam Weimer, my GGgrandfather, killed as a civilian doctor in the Civil War, Johnson Co., AR in 1864. He was born in PA, 1823 (if we can believe the 1860 census), and married Mary Ann Eliza Towell in 1856 in AR. Their daughter is my Ggrandmother, Sallie Weimer Smith.
He is said to have lived in Iowa before coming to Arkansas, but I haven't been able to attach him to any Weimer/Wimer family there. I'm hoping some other Weimer researcher will know of a missing Adam who could be mine, and help me find his parents. He then married an Opal (Reno) from Kingman, KS. Does any of this sound familiar to you? They then had 9 kids, and MANY grandkids, & greats. I've been looking for any relatives that may be a little farther out that we might get in contact with. My name is Melinda.

Re: Adam Wimer

Dennis, good for you going to VA to do this research. I do not know how much information you have on Adam Wimer 1763 - 1845 so I will assume you have very little. Adam Wimer b. according to his children in Bedford Co., VA d. in North Slippery Rock Twp., Mercer Co., PA (since 1850 this area became Washington Twp., Lawrence Co., PA). He was in the Indian Wars in the 1780's in Bedford Co., PA. Some of his children attempted to get a pension after his death and were denied as they could not prove his length of service. All this was in the Rev. War pension file. One of the important facts in the file was a list of all his children with the females married names. Thus, John, Daniel, Abigail wife of John Wimer, Nicholas, Jacob, George, Henry, Anne K. wife of William Cunningham, Eliza wife of Lithico Nichol, Isaac, Mary wife of Samuel Cleland and Adam.
I am not saying that this Adam Wimer did not marry Hannah Campfield, but if everyone does their math she could not be the mother of all his children. First child John is born in 1780, last child Mary is born in PA in 1814. Not one of the children born after 1797 named their children Hannah which is a little unusual. Infact I do not have a Hannah Wimer in my database. The Anna K. Wimer born in 1808 could be taken from the name Hannah. The name that keeps repeating itself in Adam's granddaughters is Elizabeth or Eliza. I've been working on genealogy for 30 years and heavily on the Wimer/Wymer name for the last 20 years. Adam Wimer is an ancestor on both my father's and mother's lines; if that isn't enough Isaac Wimer that lived in the Butler Co., PA area is another of my father's ancestors. I would love to prove that Adam and Isaac are related but the facts have not presented themselves, yet. However, three of Adam's children married into Isaac Wimer's family. To wrap this all-up, ever since Hannah Campfield's name has been brought up people are adding this to their trees with no forthought. We may never know the wife or wives names of Adam which is better than tacking a name on a tree that does not belong there. I was so delighted on your questioning. I would like to hear some comments.
Marilyn Cleland Dicks

The 1840 census of Slipperyrock Township, Mercer county, PA has an entry for "Adam Wimer". The household consists of two free white males between five and ten; one between twenty and thirty; one between seventy and eighty; one free white female between ten and fifteen; and three between twenty and thirty.

I'm not sure if the head of the household was the 20 - 30 year old, or the 70 - 80 year old. It's possible this is both of the Adam Wimers you mention, or neither.

Ancestry lists 21 Wimer households in PA in the 1840 census, mostly in the western part of the state.

Adam Wimer

I visted the Shenandoah Valley in Virgina to research the Wymer line. I found a will from George Wimer (died April 1811) naming his six children: sons John Wimer, Adam Wimer, George Wimer, Jacob Wimer, and daughters Catherine (wife of Henry Yoe) and Mary (wife of Israel Orndorff). Adam Wimer married Hannah Campfield on May 4, 1797 in Shenandoah County. This same Adam Wimer who married Hannah Campfield is reported as being born 5/31/1763 in Shenandoah, with a death of 1/2/1845 in Mercer, PA.

There is certainly much confusion regarding the Wimer/Wymer line, and I would love to share information.

The Adam Wimer born in 1763 in Virginia died 1/2/1845 in Mercer, PA. In 1840, he would have been about 77. Many of his children settled in the Butler Co area. I would only imagine that he was living with one of his children at the time.

Rodger,

I'm almost certain that you and my husband are second cousins! His grandfather's name was William Wimer (according to that obit, your grandmother's little brother) and was from New Castle, PA ... he was a farmer in Leesburg, PA as an adult. He would've been about 7 years old when William J died, and he's listed as the second youngest child, so it adds up! Next time I talk to my father-in-law, I'll see if I can confirm it, but it seems likely.

If you're interested in learning about my husband's part of the family, you can email me at speechkeen@gmail.com.

Re: Piper/Wimer and others

I am looking for actual records that would show us the maiden name of Margaret ?? Weimer/Wimer that was married to John Weimer that lived in Ligonier twnshp, Westmoreland county, PA during the 1820-1840 timeperiod. My ggrandfather was Jacob Weimer, born in 1798 , baptised at Kriders Lutheran Church, pipe creek, Fredericks county, Maryland. Jacob married Esther Piper, daugher of William Piper of Fairfield twnshp, Westmoreland county, in 1827. A deed of sale of land showing sale of Esther's 1/8 share of her inheritance states that her father's name was William, deceased, and his brothers were named Robert Piper, Eleazer Piper and John Piper. Sale was to Samuel Taggert dated 17 Feb 1829 and signed with Jacob & Esther's mark. They could not read or write their names. signed in the present of John Clark.
Assumptions have been made that declare her maiden name to
be Arnell or Ermel. I do not know for certain what her
maiden name was.. nor I know John's fathers name although assumptions have also been made that he could be
the John Weimert mentioned in Mathius Weimert's will ..
Anyway, what we do know is that the family is recorded in
the various census's in Ligonier as Wimer and other spellings as the census takers thought that the name should
be spelled. The sons of Jacob Weimer decided to change the spellings... one grandson used Wimer, another used Wymer
and some of the family in Brown County, Ohio used the Wymer
spelling. PLEASE I am looking for valid information,
not assumptions.
Wendell Hugh Melrose

I suspect John Aaron is the Grandson of Adam or Isaac. The census of 1820 seems to show a John J. in the household.

Kevin,
John Aaron Wimer is my GGG Grandfather. He married Marietta Stambaugh from Mahoning County, Poland, Ohio. They had a daughter, Lillian, who married Isaiah Cutshall, and their daughter, Mary Ella was my G Grandmother. Her daughter was Mildred Wagoner, my Grandmother. Her son was Royce Wagoner, my Dad. I am interested in being on your team. Thank you all.

Hello Cousin! Glad to hear from you too. I have 2 pictures of Marietta Stambaugh Wimer and one of John Aaron Wimer, and pictures of Lillian Wimer Cutchell. I will send you copies of these. Unfortunately, these are all I have. Lillian didn't have any pictures of her siblings. I found an 1820 census that listed a 3 year old John A Wimer in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, PA and his Dad may have been John T or John J Wimer. Do you know anything about this? What town and what cemetary are John and Marietta buried? Do you have any obituaries? I am just starting to research past John Aaron. Any suggestions? Have you researched Marietta's line of Stambaughs? I know the deed to their farm is available and I would like to get that as that will have more family information on it. Daniel Stambaugh was born in PA and his wife, Mary, was born in Ohio.

Carol Chavez

No, I don't mind sharing pictures of the parents of Hazlett and Lillian, John Aaron Wimer and Marietta Stambaugh. Marietta Stambaugh was from Poland, Ohio where her parents, Daniel and Mary Stambaugh owned a farm. John Aaron Wimer went there to work and met and married Marietta, their daughter. John Aaron had two daughters already. Perhaps his wife had died and he was a widower. He and Marietta had a large family of kids, I have them all listed on a census report. John Aaron was born in PA, his Dad was from Virginia and his Mom from New York. I need an address to send pictures to. Do you know any information?

I am so happy to hear from you, I've been trying to track the Wimer family before John Aaron for a long time but I wasn't having any luck. The cemetary where John and Marietta are buried no longer has a head-stone. I was wondering if you might have any photos of Hazlett, we have photos of his wife Alice DeLong Wimer, but my Grandmother Doris Wimer Manross only had one photo of Hazlett and it was lost many years ago. My address is Sam De Luca 1131 Chestnut St. Franklin, PA. 16323. Please let me know what I owe you for the copies. So happy to hear from you.

Carole, I have viewed One World Tree many times and there appears to be mis-information. One tree that is posted was information that I shared with its author and they added their own info. later. Number one Hannah Campfield may be the wife of Adam 1763 born in Bedford Co., VA died in 1845 Mercer Co., PA (Washington Twp., Lawrence Co., PA), but if this is accurate this would have to be his second spouse. Hannah is not the mother of all Adam's children if they were married in 1797. I have not posted my tree on line yet, but I plan to do so soon. I have been working on it for 30 years. I am a firm believer in good sources and the census is not a good source. Would you please give me the source for birth date of your Adam Jan. 5, 1801, I have some information on an Adam that I believe is the son of Adam 1763. In 1840 censu North Sewickley Twp., Beaver Co., PA there is an Adam 20 - 30 yrs., female 20 - 30 yrs, 2 males uder 5 yrs.. I have a divorce decree in 1842 Beaver Co. court, for a Mary Wimer from Adam Wimer. In reasearching the 2 males under 5 yr. are an Archibald and Adam Wimer. Archibald remained in Lawrence Co., but Adam moved to Poland Twp., Mahoning Co., OH before the 1880 census. Adam was married three times and had 19 children.
In Archibalds obituary it lists parents as Adam and Mary Johns Wymer, also he was b.1834.
Waiting to hear from you.....Marilyn
mdicks5999@comcast.net

John, You missed a generation. Sarah Ann Kaufman b. 1839 was the daughter of John and Mary Ann Wimer Kaufman. Mary Ann was the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Otter Wimer. Sorry to say that I have little information on John Kaufman he was b. abt. 1814 and died between 1864 and 1870. In 1880 census his wife reported her children's father was born in Germany. His youngest son Joseph C. was born in 1864 and remembered his father so I am leaning toward late 1860s as time of his death. Rumor has it that Enoch Womer went to the Civil War and never returned, but several years later he resurfaces and has another family. John get in touch with me and I will share much information on these families......mdicks5999@comcast.net

John, does your wife descend through Sarah Ann Kaufman Womer Pyle? Sarah Ann later married a Jacob Pyle and had more children. Her daughter Mary Ann Womer married Jacob Kahrer and lived all her life in New Castle. Looking at cemetery records for Zion Baptist cemetery most of the Wimers are descended from Chritopher Wimer however, there are a few from Adam Wimer. The other two cemeteries in Portersville, the presbyterian church cemetery and the Portersville Bible church cemetery hold most of Adam and Isaac Wimer's descendents. Be careful what you use from the internet on the Wimer lines, alot of misinformation.
Plese, contact me at mdicks5999@comcast.net if you choose.

Carol, Isaac and Adam each had a son John and they have been accounted for and remained in the Butler Co. area. Your John Aaron could be a grandson of either Adam or Issac. Since we determined he was born abt. 1824 and ends up in Poland, Mahoning Co., OH in the 1850 and 1860 census. I cannot place him with Nicholas, the son of Adam, as there is no indication that Nicholas had a son John Aaron, but Nicholas and his wife Mary were in Poland, OH in this time frame. According to the War of 1812 pension file for Nicholas this is where he died in 1859.
Marilyn

Would like to exchange info on the Wimer line... My wife descends from Mary AnnWimer Kaufman. Would like to know where she comes from... her parents and siblings. I have come to find that most of the ancestors in Muddy Creek or Worth Twp are all connected somewhere along the line.
All i have is a daughter : Sara Ann Kaufman, b. 1838 thyat married an Enoch Womer. They had 2 children; Mary Ann and John Oliver Womer. Don't know what happened to that Mary Ann, but John Oliver Womer(1858 - 1935) married Elizabeht Jane Powell. They had 13 cildren.
Have found many headstones with WIMER on them at the Zion Baptisp Church cemetery in Butler county on Curry Rd.
Would like to find out more.
Thanks,
John.

Christopher Wimer line.

I am just getting into the Wimer Line. Have a couple of branches , but I think they connect. I am curious about the Christoper Wimer aspect. It is in the History of Worth Twp that he was one of the first settlers in that area.

OK .. .. what I have is Mary Ann Wimer 1820-03 Jan 1892 married a John Kaufman (1814-1880). I have no parents for her.

Then , I also have Charles W. Wimer (18 May 1910-13 Jun 1986) married to Bernice E. Wilson(14 Jul 1915-26 Dec 1986).

Do you have any idea of how they might connect to Christopher?

You can eMail me at t6orsha@yahoo.com.

thanks, John.
My wife's grandmother was Elizabeth Irene WOMER (26 Mar 1904 - 24 Jun 1988). She married Clyde Raymond VOGAN. She was the daughter of John Oliver WOMER and Elizabeth Jane POWELL. And of course , John Oliver WOMER was the son of Enoch WOMER and Sarah Ann KAUFMAN. I have Sarah Ann KAUFMAN as daughter of Nicholas WIMER and Mary OTTER. And Nicholas WIMER as son of Adam WIMER and Unknown mother.
Can you add anything to that?
