Jason: I'm not ignoring you, either...our WiFi doesn't always work.
I, also, don't know where the death date of Timothy Orr comes from but he does show up in Fayette Co IN in 1811 on some land deals (along with a son-in-law, John Henderson, and his brother, Robert Orr). He lived until sometime in the 1840s and probably died in the 1840s.
I was intrigued with the deed with Jarusha Wimpy...as 1767 would be about the time she married John Orr...if, in fact, she was his first wife. Timothy does seem to have been born in 1769 as given in the DAR applications filed in Indiana (probably circa 1910-20)if we can believe that DAR application. Do you have the details on the land deal...value or any details? Sometimes land was used for the dowry of the female. It sounds as though you have done a lot of Orr research already. I would also find which male Wimpy that Agnes Orr married. These Orrs were pretty thick with Joshua Sugg as he was an executor on Robert Orr's will and a witness on John Orr's will...

Hi Bonny,

I haven’t been ignoring you; I have just been terribly busy. (Excuses, excuses, I know). I am very intrigued by your Orr connection as the Wimpy females are hard to keep track of. None of the Wimpy men left informative estate records so it is hard to recreate their family period. I feel pretty confident that I have the males pegged down. I have had a little bit of trouble placing your John and Timothy however. For one thing I have had a hard time nailing down your Timothy’s death date. He was born between 1765 and 1770 and certainly was still living in 1840 but most online trees give his death date as November 15, 1794. I’m not sure of the source of this date but as he was obviously living in 1810, 1820, and 1840 then there is some mistake. This is the first time I have tried to figure out the Orr connection so bare with me. If your Timothy were born in the late 1760’s then his parents would have been born, at the earliest, in the late 1740’s. Assuming his mother was Jarusha Wimpy she would have been born (at the earliest) in about 1750. Wimpy was not a common name in Colonial America and at that time the only known Wimpy males old enough to have been her father were David, Sr., John, Jr., and Henry Wimpy.

David Wimpy, Sr. (Son of John Wimpy, Sr.) He was born about 1710 or earlier, probably in Essex County, Virginia. He first appears on the 1750 tax list of Lunenburg County, Virginia. In the early 1760’s he moved to Johnston County, North Carolina. He died after 1769. Due to the fact that they often didn’t distinguish between David Wimpy, Sr., and David Wimpy, Jr., it is hard to tell who his wife was. (More on this below)

John Wimpy, Jr. (Son of John Wimpy, Sr.) He was born about 1708, probably in Essex County, Virginia. He died between 1748 and 1754 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He married Eleanor Byrum in 1728. His estate records prove that he only had two children: Henry Wimpy and Elizabeth Wimpy

Henry Wimpy (Son of John Wimpy, Jr.) He was born between 1728 and c.1750. He was probably born nearer to 1750 as the first mention I have found of him in the deed record is in 1771. He moved to South Carolina before the Revolution and his only children seem to have been the John and Sarah Wimpy who were living in Georgia before 1800.

The most likely candidate seems to be David Wimpy, Sr. In 1761 one of the David Wimpys made a deed in Lunenburg County, Virginia, and a Mary Wimpy relinquished her dower rights. It doesn’t specifically say that she was his wife and may well have been his mother, Mary Wimpy, who would have still been alive but this seems unlikely. In 1764, in Johnston County, North Carolina, a Sarah Wimpy witnessed a deed between David Wimpy, Sr., and John London. No relationship was given. In 1767, in Johnston County, North Carolina, one of the David Wimpys made a deed with Jarusha Wimpy as a witness. No relationship was given.

I don’t know if any of this helps, just throwing it out there. Please let me know your thoughts and idea…

Jason: I am researching the Wimpee/Wimpey families of Johnston Co NC...I descend from Timothy Orr said (by DAR applications) to be a son of John Orr and Jerusha Wimpsey. However, the Wimpsey name doesn't seem to exist and the Orrs were from Wake/Johnston Co NC. John Orr was probably born about 1745 and I think she fits, somewhere, in your family but I don't know where. By the time John Orr dies in 1779 (after serving in the RW 1777-78 or so) his widow is Rebecca (Rebecca Nutt dau. of Robert Nutt...she remarried Robert Brown). My 3rd great grandmother was Jerusha Orr who m. Ira T. Alward in IN...Timothy settled in Fayette Co IN and then moved to Fountain Co IN.
John Orr had a sister, Agnes, whose name was written as Agnes Wimpee on her father's will...(Robert Orr who also died about 1779).

John Wimpy, Sr., born before 1697, perhaps in the Northern Neck of Virginia. He died in 1762 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. John Wimpy, Sr., was a blacksmith. He married Mary. She was born before 1697 and died after 1761.

Children of John Wimpy and Mary:

1. John Wimpy, Jr., born about 1708, probably in Essex County, Virginia. He died between 1748 and 1754 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He married Eleanor Byrum in 1728. He had two children: Henry Wimpy and Elizabeth Wimpy

2. David Wimpy, Sr., born about 1710 or earlier, probably in Essex County, Virginia. (More below)

3. Sarah Wimpy, born about 1720. She died about 1806 in Amherst County, Virginia. She married Terisha Turner.

3. Levi Wimpy, born about 1766 in Johnston County, North Carolina. He died after 1850 in Pickens County, South Carolina.

4. Agnes Wimpy, born about 1771 in Johnston County, North Carolina. She died October 13, 1830, in Pickens County, South Carolina. She married Jesse Garrett.

5. Aden Wimpy, born in 1780 in Johnston County, North Carolina. He died in 1841 Polk County, Tennessee. He married Mornen Lowe. She was born in 1782 and died in 1858.

6. Daniel Wimpy, born 1780-1790 in either Johnston County, North Carolina or Pendleton District, South Carolina. He died after 1830. He married Mary Ann. She was born March 13, 1790, and died September 17, 1887, in Union County, Illinois.

7. Obediah Wimpy, born February 4, 1789, in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He died August 23, 1872, in Kentucky. He married Margaret Currence. She was born March 14, 1792, and died February 17, 1854, in Kentucky.

Brownlow June 30, 1821, in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He was born March 5, 1797, in Chatham County, North Carolina. He died December 14, 1869, in Forsyth County, Georgia.

3. Elizabeth Wimpy, born about 1801 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. She died after 1860. She married Willis Prince March 20, 1821, in Pendleton District, South Carolina.

4. Larkin C. Wimpy, born 1800-1810 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He died after 1832.

5. Obed Wimpy, born 1800-1810 in Pendleton District, South Carolina.

6. Annie Wimpy, born about 1812 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. She died after 1860. She married James F. Foster. He was born about 1805 and died after 1860.

7. Archibald Guy Wimpy, born April 17, 1814, in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He died January 8, 1896, in Lumpkin County, Georgia. He married Nancy W. Welchel February 25, 1841, in Hall County, Georgia. She was born May 21, 1818, and died January 7, 1899.

8. Isaac M. Wimpy, born about 1815 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He died after 1850.

9. Thomas Henley Wimpy, born about 1818 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He died after 1880 in Texas. He married Elizabeth J. Shepherd April 21, 1836, in Hall County, Georgia. She was born about 1824.

According to information probably supplied by her brother Archibald G. Wimpy, who ended up in Lumpkin County, GA, for an article on him in 1895, your Miss Wimpy's name was Annie. The article states that Annie married James F. Foster but doesn't give a date. Another of Annie's brothers was Thomas Henley Wimpy, who was my wife's ancestor.

The photographer's name was "Hartsook", Marion, Indiana. This is the only other information on the photo, on the front of the photo at the bottom. The names of "Uncle Francis and Aunt Rinta Wimpy" appear in pencil on the back.

I recently saw parts of an 1880 census for the Dacusville area in Pickens, SC. It lists an Edward Wimpee born abt 1876. That would make him about the right age to be the Edward that I am looking for. It lists his father as Levy Wimpee b. abt 1838 who married Caroline (b. abt 1848). The census also lists two daughters, Mary S. and Martha.

I am looking for any information on the Wimpey family. My great-great grandfather was Edward Wimpey. He was born on October 25, 1875 in Pickens, SC. He married Matilda Hargrove. They are both buried at Crossroads Church in Easley, SC. I know that he had two brothers names John and Taylor but I have no further information. I would appreciate any help as I have hit a brick wall.

So far, I haven't found a Jerome Wimpey. Minty Jane Wimpey was born June 19,1881 Union County, GA. Died December 11, 1963 Tunnel Hill, GA. Married James Lewis Jones March 4, 1904 Union County, GA. They had 9 children: Richard Carter (My Grandfather), Hattie, Ethel (married John Calloway), William Edgar, James Rouse, Jay, Lydia, Paul, Dorothy.

Do you have a scanner? I would love to see the picture of "Minty Jane".
