Am looking for any information regarding Robert L. Winberry b. 1866 in TN. I know that he married Matilda Motley but do not know when - only that they showed on the 1920 census for Sebastian County, AR (Fort Smith city). If anyone has any information to share I would greatly appreciate it because I cannot find a thing on him. He doesn't show on any earlier census records that I can find.

Hello,
It is good to meet you. It would appear that we are second cousins. You would be a first cousin to my father, John C. Winbery, son of Charles Alvin Winbery and Bessie Barnes Winbery. I never knew any of my grandfather's family except his brother Jesse and the cousins. Until recently, I did not know he had sisters. Perhaps you have met Anita? She is from the Barnes side, but has lots of information on both families and is trying to put more info together. Please feel free to write to me at VLoveday@aol.com. I will share what I know with you. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
:-)
Victoria Loveday

I think Taylor was a nickname.
Winberry is last name, not Taylor. I am sorry, I wish I could help.
Greetings Anita..
And thank you for responding.I remember your father. I also remember that my father was fond of all of his uncles on my grandmother's side. Most of my memories of my grandparents are of my grandmother..with whom I lived, several times throughout my troubled youth. She was my guiding light and a rock when I needed one. My grandfather died in February of 1961, the result of a single heart attack and left my grandmother with several youngsters. I was only 4 years old, but I remember..they lived within walking distance of our house in Dallas.
As I mentioned, my father, John Charles Winbery was the oldest child. Together, my grandparents had 10 children. 7 daughters and 3 sons. They were (and are) a very tight-knit family. My father died in 1992 from complications of diabetes. My grandmother died in 1984, colon cancer. She also was diabetic but wasn't one to go to a doctor for anything. My grandmother was taken care of until the day she passed away..by her children. She was very close to her children and they all loved her very much, as did her grandchildren. The older chilren provided for her and the younger children until everyone was grown, or married. I last saw her at a family reunion held in her honor in Fort Smith Arkansas. My 24 year old daughter, Amanda, was about 15 months old at the time and she and I, along with my sister, Cherie traveled to Arkansas to see them. That was my last time to see my grandmother alive. I have pictures of that gathering...in storage..so I guess it is time to go and find them and scan them into the computer. I will gladly share my memories of my wonderful grandmother, but would like to contact you directly or have you e-mail me directly. My e-mail address is VLoveday@aol.com. Take care and I do look forward to hearing from you! BTW....I live in Texas. Are you in Texas as well?
:-)

Hi Anita and thank you for your reply. It is great to meet you. Bessie Barnes was my grandmother and my grandfather was Charles Alvin. He had a brother named Jesse who along with Aunt Dovie had 8 boys. My grandparents had 10 children, the oldest one, John Charles Winbery being my father. My uncle, Jack Winbery...researched the family history, but to date, I haven't seen it. I do remember Uncle Landon and Uncle J.D. Barnes, my grandmother's brothers. They lived in Odessa as well as I can recall from my father. I haven't seen them in many years. So..it appears that Winbery and Barnes married each other. :-) I do not know who James T. Winbery is, but I remember that my grandfather had one brother that I grew up around and that was Uncle Jessie and his sons. I didn't even know that my grandfather (Charles Alvin) had a step-sister. I don't even know what his parents names were. I am trying to contact my uncle...(a little difficult keeping up with those Winberys) Maybe he can shed some light. I am happy to meet you..it would appear that you are my father's cousin? Who are your parents?

Hi Victoria

I am the daughter of your grandmother's other brother. My father was Raymond Leslie Barnes who was the baby brother of your grandmother Bessie. My father was in the military and we were not around much. We were in England and Germany during my growing up years. My mother was a German woman my Dad married just after World War II. Her name was Helene Schweiger. I am trying to put together a book telling about the Barnes family. I have some pictures of Bessie and Alvin. I also have a couple of Aunt Bessie and her children. I would like some help in learning about the people that Bessie Barnes and Alvin Winbery. Can you tell me a little about your memories of your grandparents? I remember Aunt Bessie and her snuff. I want to put more than my memories in the book. Thanks for any help.
I talked to a relative and she shared with me that some of my Dad's siblings spelled their name Winberry but my Dad spelled his Windberry. His Dad's name was James Milton Winberry they called him Johnny. He had a brother named William married to Naomi. I was told that my great-grandfathers name was Milton. I don't know how accurate my information is. They lived in Arkansas but I don't really know if they were born there or not. I think that my grandfather would have been born in the 1880's.
If anybody has this information I would appreciate if you would let me know.
