Re: WINDLEYS Lincolnshire England circa 1825

My name is Alex Birchley and I too am connected to the Windley family through my mother's side. Her mother was Florence Windley b:between 1881-83 in the Greater Grimsby area. Depending on which household I take as hers in the 1901 Census, will determine my path of research. At the moment I'm inclined to think it is a William Osborne Windley whose family I should persue as belonging to my line on my Mother's side. This is because his daughter Florence Windley married a Wilmot Young (|Merchant Seaman)from Burton on Trent circa.1901 and their eldest son was named Wilmot Osborne Young. If this is the case then Willaim Osborne's father is almost certainly another William Windley b. 1821 an Agricultural Labourer living in Grimoldby according to the 1861 Census.

Hi Nick,
What a nice surprise to hear from you!
Didn't even know I had a cousin Nick. I'm fine and so is my mother (Petra indeed!). My father passed away 15 years ago. And my brother Robin suddenly died 2,5 years ago (aged 39). I'm still having difficulties with that loss, miss him a lot.
Regarding the Windley Familytree it's going very slowly. Since I live in the Netherlands (still in Venlo) it's not easy to find information. By the way is Stephen your brother. Have been in contact with him about 4 years ago he gave me some information but still missing a lot.
Pleas send me your email address so that I can let you know which details I'm still missing.
regards
Franchesca Vullings-Windley

Franchesca

It is 5 years since you posted this enquiry, sorry for not finding it sooner!
We met many years ago when my parents Anne & Jim came to visit your parents, Jock and forgive me, is it Petra? Was it in Venlo? Dad passed away in 2004 but mum is still well.
I too have been working on a family tree that includes James Windley as my great grandfather. Indeed I remember visiting him when I was small, he died when I was six. My main memory of him was him sitting beside the fire with a union jack on a pole behind him.
I assume that you have gathered more information since this was posted, what information are you missing now?

How are you? Where are you etc. I am sure that my mum would like to be updated too. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Your cousin

Nick Carr

Ok! My Great Grandmother was Lula (Ludy) Windley Tarter. She was married to my Great Grandfather, Robert L. Tarter, in Monroe County, Arkansas in 1881. "Stuttgard" I think. Or something like that. I think her father was John - maybe wrong but will check. I have it in my records somewhere. Ludy is listed in 1900, 1910, 1920 census of DeValls Bluff, Prairie County Arkansas - not far from Cotton Plant. On those records her father is listed at Sea when she was born. Ludy was born in Arkansas. Any help with this family would be appreciated.
Her Daughter signed the Death Cert. Her name is Mrs. P. C. Swinney
Norman D. Tarter, RPh

We think William Windley born 1821 Grimoldby married to Anne born 1832 is father of William O Windley.

We think parents of William Windley are Johnson Windley born c1800 married 1814 to Ann Cotton born c1800.

We are not sure where Stephen 1825 born Grimoldby fits in yet ! In addition William Osborne Windley 1853 married Alice Ann Osborne and is somehow related to William Osborne born Wimbledon 1798 (possible squire of Lincoln.

Does this help ??? Or confuse ??

We are trying to trace the Windley line and there seems to be connecction in Grimoldby. We live in Sheffield. My father Charles Reginald Windley is a direct descendant of William O Windley 1853.
am trying to connect my Robert WINDLEY with other Windleys in that part of England. He was born about 1805 and our family history says he came from somewhere near Manchester. He immigrated to the US in 1841 and eventually settled in St. Louis. He might have had a brother, William, who was born in 1807 in Loughborough, Leicestershire and immigrated to Idaho, USA. I haven't confirmed this connection, though.

Sylvia - in response to your above-post, my 3rd great grandfather was William Windley who was born in 1807 in Loughborough. His parents were Thomas Windley & Hannah (maiden name unknown).

He immigrated to Idaho with his son, my 2nd great grandfather, John William Windley. Grandfather William was married to Elizabeth Mitchell on 25 August 1828 in Loughborough. He died 21 March 1859 in St. Charles, Bear Lake, Idaho.

I am very interested in your Robert Windley. I have names of some of William's brother's and sisters, however there is no Robert among that list. Any information you may have on Robert would be greatly appreciated. I would also be happy to share whatever information I may have on William and his family.

Jerry Windley

My husband, Jim Windley, is related to Lindley and to Marion Windley. I think that they were something like his third or fourth cousins. You might be able to access some family obits through the online obituary archives of the Virginian-Pilot (Pilotonline.com) and contact Centenary United Methodist Church, 3312 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA for some information. It was their family church. You might also call the office at 757-484-5051. Just in case the office staff doesn't know anything about them, ask for Stella Williamson, the historian.

Wow! I've been searching for Windleys and this is the jackpot. My Mother's father was Seth J. Windley, born 1874. He was the son of Seth Barrow Windley and Margaret Wilkins. Seth had two children by Katie Wagonner Windley(1889-1976): Katheran (1920-1980) and James(1927-1983). Seth died in about 1944, I don't have an exact date.

I am trying to connect my Robert WINDLEY with other Windleys in that part of England.

Do you think Robert might be a brother of your John?

Hi, I'm sorry i can't answer your question. But i can tell youwhat i know of John WINDLEY he was born 1801 Loughbourgh and was a printer, and by 1829 was living in Leicester only a stones throw away really. And until 1850s was the only WINDLEY in Leicester that i can find on the 1851 census and al the poll books.
What makes you think Robert and William are brothers?
I have searched some of the Loughbourgh Baptisms but they are very difficult to read, but i do keep meaning to relook.

I think Jerry on the familyhistory.com/windleys has a WILLIAM born around that time, he could possibly help.

Sorry not to have more been more help.

Regards
Debbie

James Windley of Cotton Plant, Woodruff Co. AR

I am looking for any relatives of my Grandpa Virgil Windley's family. His dad was James Windley(born?) married to Viola Caplener(born 1895) 2nd wife. They both died in Mar - Jul 1930 a few months apart when my Grandpa Virgil was 12 years, so the younger children where split up. James and Viola had the following children: Melba, James Jr.,Virgil H, Zerline, and J.C.

James Windley is suppose to be buried in the Cotton Plant cemetary, but his headstone has not been located and he is not on the plat. But according to the man that keeps this, it is not the old original plat.

Viola Caplener Windley is suppose to be buried in the cemetary south of Cotton Plant located on Dark Corner Road, Monroe Co. Only a few large headstones can be found as the flat ones are under grass now.

Any information regarding who James Windley's parents might be and where he came from would be greatly appreciated.

Any information on Viola Caplener is needed as well. Also, if anyone knows who to talk to about a posible plat for the Dark Corner cemetary to locate her headstone would be great. I really want to find this for Grandpa and his younger sister Zerline as they do not live there and I know it would help them.Thanks.

Windleys of Eastern North Carloina

I am just beginning the research on the Windley sir name of Beaufort, NC. I am looking for info on ancestors of Joseph Norcomb Windley b. Oct 9, 1895 in Beaufort, NC, d. April 1954 in Washington DC, son of Guy S. Windley d. 1913 and Margaret S.Bowen d.1967. Looks like the Windley name is pretty common in NC but I have not been able to find a GED file or good info on this line, or even this particular Bowen sir name line.
As far as I know, Guy Windley had 7 children; Joseph, Lindley, Marion, Richard, Robert, Mae, and Guy Jr. Do you have info on ancestors of this Windley line?
Thanks for your consideration in this matter.

Contact Steve Garber e-mail; garbers@ntelos.com or
cfww@cfw.com.
Address:
1493 Rockfish Rd.
Waynesboro VA, 22980
