Charlene, Thank you for answering my query. Any information you have on this family line would be great, especially any old photos your family may have. My boyfriend, Robert Rutledge descends from Susan Ada Winfree who married George William Rutledge. We just recently found where they were buried and took pictures of their tombstones. Susan Ada had a second marriage to a William Roan (I have to check the spelling on that). No children by the second marriage.

Anson County, NC Grave Sites

Hello, all,

I got to make a day-trip to Anson County, yesterday, to search for a couple of family burial grounds. I got to two of them: Allen-Ross-Smith-Flake and Smith-Winfree. I'm descended from John and Mary Flake Smith. There are some Winfrees buried just outside the iron fence, I'm assuming because the fenced-in area was already full by the time the Winfrees came into the family.

I have one marriage between a Charles Jordan Winfree and Nancy Ann Flake, but neither of those were present (or possibly not marked). The graves of the Winfrees are marked only with funeral-home-style metal tags; no other markings appear. If the graves weren't so marked, they would certainly have been completely lost to time.

The markers that appear there are:
Frances C. Winfree 1800-1850
Gideon Booker Winfree 1783-1853
Sara Jane (Sallie) Winfree 18??-1895

I'd like to share the photos I managed to get in hopes that someone might know these people and how they came to be buried next to the Smiths and Nelmes.

Smith-Flake:
http://www.mybigfamily.us/Documentation/SmithCemeteryAnsonNC

Thanks very much for allowing me to share.
Bill Farrell

She is 92 and was married to Kemper's son, William. Yes Kemper did die of a crushed skull. He was a mine former and a roof collapsed on him. As soon I as get somethings together I send them along.

Thanks.

Thanks for the photo of Peters headstone (you posted 2 of the same image). Do you have any additional photos you would be willing to share. I am sure my brother-in-law would appreciate seeing them. The information I have is that Kemper died from a crushed skull on 18 January 1943. He was also apparently adopted by Peter as he was Sophia's son by a former marriage.
I have Peter and Sophia married on 12 May 1889 and Kemper born on 21 December 1885 then Arthur born abt 1886. Seven more children born after the marriage.

I am researching for my brother-in-law "Winfree" and what I have is William Henry Winfree (his gggg-grandfather) born July 28, 1826, died October 23, 1891. I noted the DOB was from a death certificate but can't confirm. I have his 2nd wife as Anna Cathryn Smith. All other info checks.
I continue to look for information.

DATA: Winfree, Ed. & Edward Moore listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Winfree, Ed.
Winfree, Edward Moore (Ed)

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...
