I am a Winkle in New Zealand my Great Grandfather James Winkle came from Galway in Ireland believe he was born there is 1858. My father a James Edward Clarence Winkle said James had 4 brothers he came to New Zealand and the others went to America.

My Winkel's have spelled the name as WINKEL since coming from Germany. My great grandfather was William Winkel who owned a grocery store in St Louis before moving west. I am not familiar with the names in your post. Sorry

I'm just getting started. My aunt asked me to look up a Winkle/Lane connection in St. Louis.

I search for Isaac Winkle, born in So. Tenn and to Alabama/Madison County, by 1805. He married Patsy Bragg, and they eventually came to Oregon in 1847. I've never been ablt to find his family in Tenn., but think he may have been related to a John Winkle there. Any hints, help or info would be appreciated.

The earliest provable ancestors are Abraham Winkle b 1795 NC and his wife Elizabeth (Stormer) Winkle b 1797 TN. Abraham's father is believed to be named John Winkle.

RUSSELL A. WINKLE

Russell A. Winkle was born June 2nd, 1919, and departed this life May 20th, 1935, being 15 years, 11 months and 18 days of age. He was the son of Albert and Iva Winkle, formerly of near Everton. Russell was converted at the Holiness Mission in Greenfield several months ago. He had been sick for about four weeks with typhoid fever, bore his sickness with patience and spoke of being ready to go. He leaves to mourn their loss his mother, two brothers, Robert and Monta, six sisters, Ruthie, Nadine, Reba, Betty Jane, Audrey, and Dorothy, besides his grandparents and many other relatives and friends. His father preceded him in death about five years ago. Russell will be sadly missed in the home, but our loss is Heaven's gain. The funeral was conducted by Bro. Jim Erwin. A large crowd gathered at the Antioch Cemetery to pay their last tribute of respect and love to a young man who had endeared himself to so many because of his quiet, manly life.

Don'r know much. The will was a curiousity as it is signed as John, but said heirs of "Jacob." I believe these to be kin to my line, and a line that emigrated to Missouri, possibly first cousins, but have not researched them. Figured if I could find a connection, it would enable me to go back further, as I have found a brickwall with my line. Supposed possibility that he was John Jacob Winkle.

Sue give us a little more to zero in on. ie dates, location. etc. We have a lots of Winkle, Winkles, Winkler, etc.. and lots of those given names show up in all the lines.
So we need to narrow it down just a bit. Will be glade to help if we can. We have a couple of Winkle in our group but the Surnames seem to change back and forth depending on who was recording what.

I also research the Winkle/Winkles and there is an organization of researchers at myfamily.com. I regret the names you mentioned are not familiar to me. The line of Winkles I am a part of lived in northern AL and southern TN. My direct line came to TX ca 1900 but a large group are still back that direction. There may be a connection of your line and mine further back and you certainly may be connected to someone at myfamily.com, try it! Good Luck.

i don't know if fannie's last name was blue, her mother vianna married a blue(william) they are both buried in the nail cemetary in izard county. fannie is buried in the baron fork cemetaty in mt. pleasant arkansas. but fannie's maiden name was something else, vianna was a stone i believe, but i haven't been able to find fannie's last name. if you have anymore info on this family please let me know, thank you emma sue "winkle" Baumann

my grandfather was joseph edward winkle, he settled in izard county arkansas wife was fannie stone winkle (don't know if this was a second wife or not)i have a lot of info on him. i believe his dad was rufus winkle who married nancy jane fulbright.

Norma, Hubert and Edwin Winkle, ch. of Arthur/Lucy Winkle of Hopkins Co., TX

I have an original postcard photograph of “Norma and Herbert and Edwin Winkle”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about 1926-1927, and Norma looks about age 5, while the boys are probably 4 and 2. The photo postcard was addressed (but never mailed) to Mr. and Mrs. Julius Meinert, with no address.

I found these children in the 1930 census for Hopkins Co., TX, children of Aerthur W. and Lucy Winkle. Older sister, Lucille, was 11, Norma was 8, Hubert was 6 and son “Cleton” was age 5. I assume Cleton and Edwin were one and the same.

Nancy, several years ago, you replied to my inquiry on the family of Joe Storey Winkle, my great grandfather. Sorry, but I lost email for a year and just recently started researching again. My grandfather, Ira Storey Winkle, was a younger son of Joe Storey Winkle and Angeline Warner. Lenny and Minnie were his sisters. Were they twins? In the early 50s, Lenny visited my family in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I thought that I had photos, but I can't find them. Lenny moved to Ocala, Florida and lived with Rutha, her daughter. Rutha was married to Arthur Justice (I have a photo of them). We visited them twice in Ocala, once c1957 and again c1963. I have a 5x7 portrait photo of Minnie and Robert Ashcraft; a small portrait photo of Laura Winkle Scott, another of the sisters; an 8x10 of Levi Winkle (the eldest brother) in his casket c1950; and an 8x10 of the Winkle Family taken at Levi's funeral. Lenny and Minnie and my grandfather Ira are in this last photo. There are eleven other people in the photo, but I do not know who they are. These are the only photos I have of the Winkle Family. William Winkle, Jr. married Mary (Forshea) Redenhour on Nov 1, 1866 (William's 2nd wife). She was the widow of James Redenhour & they had two children, George J. and Mary J. Redenhour.

William Winkle, Jr. & Mary (Forshea) Redenhour had the following children, Margaret Ann, Eliza J., Sarah H., William E., Mary E., John W., James Buell, and Rufus Barton.

Robyn, John H and Lucinda Gambel Winkle are my great, great grandparents. They came to Barton Cty from TN.
They are listed in Wash Cty, Roane cty, and McMinn cty.
I do not have a clue about the Stacy boys or the two women listed last in the census. I was on Ancestry.com a few years ago and found a military record on a James Stacy and it was signed by J. H Winkle, dated Jan 4, 1867. If you find anything else on the Winkle family I would appreciate it. I don't have much info that far back except the census.

It is possible that my Great Grandfather is the Andrew Copp that was a witness. Though he lived in Boston, he traveled in the South 25 years before. If so, he would have been in the infantry. He died at the battle of Antietam.

Daniel Bieze, Sr., of Scottsdale, AZ passed away on April 2, 2005 in Mesa, AZ. He was born on February 21, 1923 to Daniel and Ella (Winkle) Bieze in Chicago, IL. He served in WWII in the Army and received a Bronze Star.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy; daughters, Nancy Donhowe, Sandy Pasilis; sons, Danny Bieze, Jr., Billy Bieze; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Burial at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
