Hello again,
Not related, just being helpful. When you pay for these databases, it is nice to help people that may not have them. I am tracing mainly my WINKLER line. I found this obit for Jimmy Demaret, the informant in Lila's death certificate and thought I would paste it here.

New York Times, The (NY) - December 29, 1983
Deceased Name: JIMMY DEMARET, FIRST GOLFER TO WIN 3 MASTERS, DIES AT 73
Jimmy Demaret, the first golfer to win the Masters tournament three times and a member of the Professional Golfers Association and World Golf halls of fame, died here today, apparently of a heart attack. He was 73 years old.

Laura Guillot, an official with Champions Golf Club, of which Mr. Demaret was co-owner, said that he had reported to work when he suffered the attack. Pat Morgan, his business associate and close friend, said that Mr. Demaret had collapsed while getting into a golf cart to drive around the course, which he designed and built with another former professional golfer, Jack Burke Jr.

Mr. Demaret won the Masters in 1940, 1947 and 1950, but he never won the United States Open, P.G.A. or British Open. He was the leading money winner on the PGA Tour in 1947 with $27,936 and achieved 31 career victories on the tour. Won 9 Events in 1940

Mr. Demaret won nine tournaments on tour in 1940 and seven in 1947. He also won the Vardon Trophy in 1947, which is awarded to the tour member with the year's lowest stroke average per round. His first tournament victory was in 1934, the Texas P.G.A., where he earned $25.

Mr. Demaret played on three Ryder Cup teams against British teams and was unbeaten in six matches. He was named to the P.G.A. Hall of Fame in 1960. When he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame last May, he wore a bright apricot sweater with white knickers, argyle socks and orange and black golf shoes.

Mr. Demaret often chose bright clothes during a period when everyone wore whites. His clothes were made to order - electric blue, bottle green, canary yellow and vermilion were among his favorites. His hats were considered outlandish; a Swiss yodeler's hat was a staple for a while.

His first major victory came in 1938, when he beat Sam Snead for the National match-play title in San Francisco. After he left the tour, he devoted the majority of his time to the operation of the Champions Golf Club. Joined Tour in 1938

Mr. Demaret was born May 24, 1910, in Houston, the fourth of nine children born to a house painter-carpenter. He got his first job as a club pro in 1932 in Galveston, Tex., before joining the tour in 1938.

After his retirement as an active player, he worked as a television commentator and was the host of the "Wonderful World of Golf" television series during the 1960's.

Bill Bass, general chairman of the Legends of Golf tournament in Austin, Tex., an event for players 50 and older, called Mr. Demaret "a fine, fine friend of ours." He said Mr. Demaret was one of the owners of Onion Creek Club, where the Legends is played, and had designed the course.

One of those legends, 71-year-old Mr. Snead, said from his home in Hot Springs, Ark.: "He was a happy-go- lucky person, he liked to party at night and he never liked to sleep more than a few hours. No telling what Jimmy would have done if he'd toed the line and gone to bed at a decent hour."

"It's amazing how much he meant to golf," said Ben Crenshaw, a fellow Texan who is active on the professional tour and a student of the game's history.

Mr. Demaret is survived by his wife, Idella, and a daughter, Peggy Jackson of Houston. The funeral will be private.

I will keep looking for you. Exactly what are you looking for in regards to your Conklin line?

Lori B.

Alice Conklin's parents were David Conklin & Mary McGrath. Those are pretty common names. David Conklin was born 21 Mar 1826 in Cork, Ireland and died 07 Jan 1891 in Washington, La. I have a copy of his obit and a picture of what I think is his tomb in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, La. Mary McGrath died 28 Jan 1905 in Washington, La. They lived in New Orleans from 1851-1859 (per obit).2 of their children were born in New Orleans.

I'd really like to find out who David & Mary's parents were and who David Conklin's siblings were. I know a few of Mary McGrath's siblings.

It is hard to go back across the pond when you don't have much info to go on.

I have been using the site you sent me! It has been very helpful and I appreciate it greatly!!

What can I do to help you in your research? I live about 35 minutes from Washington, La. I have all of Father Hebert's books and I have a lot of other genealogy books too. I have a subscription to Ancestry.com but I've never seen that Texas Death record from Family History Library. I've used Familyhistory.org before.
Debbie

Thanks again Lori. I didn't have John O's death either. Are you related to these families?

Actually my roots are through Alice Raymond Trainor and her 1st husband, Francis Franklin Brown. Alice & Francis Franklin Brown had a son named Francis Lymon Brown. Francis Lymon Brown married Alice Conklin.

So actually Conklin is the main surname I am focused on. Not having much luck, so I am feeling in gaps in my Family Tree Maker program with everything I can that connects the family surnames.
Debbie

Re: THOMAS WINKLER

I would like to know if Thomas Winkler b. 10 jun 1794 in NC had a brother named Benjamin. I read several postings that claimed that Thomas' parents were Joseph Winkler and Catharine ?. In the 1830 Burke,NC census I found my Benja Winkler listed right above Joseph Winkler. This makes me think that they were related. Benjamin and his family moved to Frogtown, GA around 1834. He is listed in the 1838 Geogia census. However, by 1840 he no longer shows. Instead Sarah his wife is now listed as head of the household with 4 daughters and two sons. Sarah died in 1842 leaving behind 6 orphans. The three older children were Miles Allen, Mariah, and Sarah. I think that Thomas and his wife Esther moved their family from Burke, NC to Frogtown, Ga and raised the three younger children as their own, but I don't know how to prove it.Back in 1850 the censuses didn't show relationship to the head of the household. Can anyone help me!!!! I have a few other reasons that makes me think this is true, but I already wrote a book here so please email me at berroth@gmail.com and I can further explain.
Thank you,
Deborah Lannon-Berroth

Re: Three Winkler Brothers from Switzerland!

Help! I'm trying to establish the link between my gggreat grandfather Benjamin Winkler and one of three brothers _ Conrad, Jacob and Thomas. My ggreat granfather Miles Allen Winkler was born in Burke County, NC abt 1823. He had 4 sisters but I only know the name of two of them - Meriah and Sarah. He also had a younger brother but I don't know his name. Apparently the family moved from Burke County, NC to Lumpkin, GA about 1834 because Benjamin Winkler, Miles father, is listed in the Georgia 1834 census. By 1840 Benjamin no longer appears instead his wife, Sara, is listed. Sarah died abt 1842. Does anyone know which of the three brothers had a son named Benjamin that married a Sarah with decedents that moved to GA.
