Interesting! I research Winks families world wide, and would love to understand how that picture ended up in Texas as it could help massively in linking the Michigan WINKS to the Texas ones.

Sylvia is Sylvia BOWEN who married William Thomas WINKS, I know she had a sister who also married a WINKS but looks like Jim may be a Brother or Cousin?

Something happened and my previous message got posted before I was finished. I don't know how to edit, or delete messages, so I have to post the message again.

I have a picture that belonged to my grandmother, Ruth Margaret (SMITH) ANDREWS. On the back it says, "Grand Rapids Mich in front of ? Jim and Mauds house, Laura (far left), Maud BOWEN, Sylvia WINKS."

I don't know how these three ladies fit into my family history. Here are some surnames that might be connected: ANDREWS, PHELPS, MAHAN, McINTOSH, WELCH, McMURRY, SMITH, ARMENTROUT, BARR, MURTEN, BENNETT, AUSTIN, TODD, NAUSLER, HARPER, KIDD, ENGLAND, VANMEER

I'm taking a wild guess that the Laura in the picture with Maud BOWEN and Sylvia WINKS, could possibly be Laura PHELPS, daughter of Alice C. ANDREWS (1863-1950) and Francis M. PHELPS (1853-1926). This Laura married Roy MAHAN before 1953. They had a son, Richard, born about 1924.

I have lots more information on the lineage for Alice C. ANDREWS if interested.

Hi Pete,
I recieved an e-mail this morning from the fellow who was going to try & find Henry & Honora for me, but unfortunately he said that what he has is only a SURNAME Index and it doesn't cover the area of Upper Ground you mentioned, so I guess I'm out of luck there.
My husbands Uncle left Australia today to visit his son in France, while there he said he hopes to get over to England & if he can shall go and take a picture of 27 Waterloo Road, which is where you found Henry's mother Rachel living in 1851, Uncle is the great grandson of Henry & the gr gr grandson of Rachel.
Pete If you ever need anything looked up in Australia I shall be only to pleased to help if I can, I have most of the Victorian BDM's, some of South Australia, Queensland & N.S.W and Tasmania up until 1899 & the Tasmanian Convicts C.D, so you know where to come if you need any lookups for Australia.
Once again Thanks for your help in finding Rachel & daughter for me.

I am very sorry to be a pain, when you found Rachel & Agnes in the 1851 census for me they were living at 27 Waterloo Road, I have found a fellow who has the complete 1851 census for London and he is going to try & locate Henry Winks & his wife Honora for me, but he wanted to know exactly where I wanted him to start searching, he gave me a list of area's of Waterloo Road, I am wondering if you noticed if it gave anything other than Waterloo Road for Rachel & Agnes.

Henry Winks & Rachel Collins - England

Thanks for the update on Rachel Winks details on the 1851 census, i now have where she was born.
I don't have a maiden name for Henry's first wife Honora, I just have her and Henry arriving here in Australia in 1853, she died about 5 years later and her death certificate didn't give any parents names, later Henry married (his neice) Agnes Esther Hare, the daughter of his sister Agnes Rachel Winks & Henry Hare.
I am not really 100% sure there was other children, all I have is from other people that Rachel had a son Thomas and a daughter Mary, maybe they got this info from her death Certificate, I might have to order it and see for sure.

No sign of Henry but the source I am using for the 1851 census is only 3% complete! I have no trace of a Honora (Winks) anywhere in the UK records do you have a maiden name? Alos do you have dates for the other 2 kids?

Thanks for that info on Rachel & Agnes Winks in the 1851 census, if you wouldn't mind looking again for me for Henry Winks jnr, he came out to Australia in 1853 with his first wife Honora, Henry would have been around 23 years of age in 1851.

Henry Winks & Rachel Collins - England

Looking for info on my Henry Winks who married Rachel Collins mid 1820's, a son Henry was baptised @ St. Lukes, Chelsea in 1828, they also had daughters Agnes Rachel Winks born 1830, and Mary and another son Thomas.
Would love any info on Henry Snr, parents etc, his wife Rachel came to Australia in 1856 with daughter Agnes and son-in-law Henry Hare, I presume Henry Snr must have died by then.
Would love to hear from anyone who might have access to 1841 census records, or anyone connected at all who may be able to help me with more info.

Uh, this is very curious. My name is Michael Winks, my family is from the Midwest and then before that, Wales. My brother's name is Christopher, he is older. My father Don Winks,b orn in Chicago passed away in 1999. My aunt Carolyn Winks is in the Los Angeles area.

Orlando L. Winks was born Jan.28, 1863 on the famioly farm near Williamsport, IN. His brother Guy Carleton WInks was my grandfather. Orlando was known to my mother as "Uncle Lan". This is a quick response, and I'll do some more searching in our family records to see if there is more.
Orlando was the son of John Quincy WInks and Sabra Ellen Cheesman Winks, grandson of the first Joshua Winks.
Let me know if you want additional family information --I don't have any specific information on Orlando, as most of my data is specific to my direct line. Hope this helps a bit.

My great-great grandmother is Annie Porter Winks. Her father and mother are Alexander Parnell and Jane MacAlistar Winks married in Glasgow 22 Dec 1845. Annie is the fifth of six children born. The family left Scotland on the "Slains Castle" from London and arrived in New Zealand in 7 Sept 1852 at Wellington via Otago with brothers Jonothan and James Winks.
