Went to the National Archives and found this on John D. Winner:

John D. Winner, Civil War Pension Application
Mother's Application number 333191, Certificate 400.326

Corporal, Company F 178 Regiment, PA Infantry

Died: January 29, 1864. “died in camp at Culpeper, Va 29 January by reason of disease unknown”

Mother: Aseneth Davis Winner
Father: Jesse Winner, d January 10, 1888

Info included in the pension:
•Two letters sent to the family by John D—exerpts:
•“tell Rachel to send me her likeness"
•“wrote a letter to Uncle Ben”
•“Uncle Seth (?) need not trouble himself about me he may kiss my military --- for he is nothing but a secess [secessionist] anyhow”
