•He was a wagoner in Company F 149th Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry
•Affidavit from Kester Winner, Joseph L.’s brother. In July of 1903, Kester was 65 years old. He lived at Pleasant Mount, Wayne County, PA. and attests to the marriage.
•He was known as a helper in watchmaking and repairing and as a photographer.
•They lived Shickshinny, Luzerne County, PA between 1865-1870
•Due to his poor health, the doctor recommended a move to a better climate and they moved to Elizabeth City, NC, then in 1872 to Edenton, NC, and thence to Washington, NC from 74-79.
•Final move was to Carolina Beach, NC where they had 140 acres of what he described as very poor sandy land, which produced no income, hence the request for pension.
