Martin - I have finally received a copy of my grandparent's marriage record. It is as follows: 14 Dec 1909 Thomas Harold Winnings age 20 of Niagara Falls, NY, s/o Charles Winnings and Margaret McCleal (could be mispelled) married Eleanor Stocks age 18 of Niagara Falls, Ontario, d/o Sanuel Stocks and Mary Ann Bratley Stocks. As I recognize the names Walter, Clarence, Elmer, Charles, we have GOT to be related. Maggie would have also been my Great-Grandmother!
That makes us cousins - which of my Grandfather's sibling's child are you?

Now I want all the info you have! I have some photos to share and would like to find out who the people are with them, also would like any you may have. I believe you still have my email address??

Thanks, Martin!
Sandie Winnings Smith
Rockledge, FL

I have not posted regarding Maggie or Margaret. I have posted regarding my grandfather Thomas Harold b 22 Dec 1988, d Nov 1965. I do recall, when I was a mere child, the names in family conversations of (first names only) Elmer, Charles, Clarence, and Walter, however, I do not know if they were brothers of my grandfather, or close friends of the family. Sorry I don't have any more info to offer.

Ms Winnings,
I was doing further research on the Winnings. You had posted a reply a few years back about Maggie, Margaret, Thomas and Harold.
Please help me with something.
I have Charles Taylor Winnings born Jan. 11, 1866 who married Margaret "Maggie" Jane McClead b. Mar 1863. They were from Ritchie County, WV.
They had 10 children.
1. Mary Elizabeth
2. Elias Franklin
3. Thomas Harold
4. John H
5. Elmer Nay
6. Charles Norman
7. Petter W.
8. Laura E.
9. Clarence McKinley
10 Walter W.
--------------------------------------
There was a mixup on one of the names you referred to with Margaret & Maggie. "The Maggie I have listed above as the mother of these 10 is my great grandmother who was also known as Maggie. The census records show that in the Census at Williamsburg, WV. I think 1930.
My question is: Is Clarance and James brothers?
If so, please give me some dates on these if you could.
I appreciate it so much.
Thanks for the reply.
Harold and Norman were brothers. Charles Norman was my grand-father who lived in Nicholas County.
Harold had 9 brothers and sisters. I have a great deal of information on the Winnings. I have been researching their line for almost 10 years now. Was your father in a wheel-chair and did he work at a radio station.
If so, then I have 2 pictures of him.

Thank you for the information Mr Winnings. My grandfather was Norman Charles Winnings and his mother was Margaret Winnings. I have records in my files that show my great grandmother was in one instance given the name of Maggie Winnings.
This may be where I copied the name mistakenly on your mothers side and I do apologize, although with the hundreds of names in my data base it's hard to keep track.
Thank you for the information. It would be helpful to me if you could shed some more light on the Winnings.

Mr Rudd as I have posted here before there is a big mistake here. Clarence & Margaret Winnings are my grandparents. My father was Harold Winnings born July 15 1931. His name is not Thomas Harold Winnings. By the way my grandmother's real first name is Maggie it's not short for Margaret.

Hi Kathy,
You are correct about Harolds Brother. His brother was Norman Winnings of Charleston West Virginia who was my grand-father. Norman Winnings died Dec. 9, 1988. He was married to Clara Ottie Bennett (my grand-mother). Normans father was Charles Taylor Winnings (spelled Winans) was born Jan. 11, 1866 married 1893 died Oct 1950 at Nicholas County WV. buried in Richwood WV. Mary Elizabeth my aunt was a wonderful Christian lady whom I stayed with in the late 60s. Her husband William (I called uncle Bill) was a great man. He trained FBI men in shooting the Pistols-revolvers). They lived in Barton Ohio. She made the best mince-meat pie you ever tasted. (She gave me the receipe before she passed on).
I would be more interested in information your father has (please pass it on to me). My telephone number is (304) 438-8424 call collect).
Thanks so much for e-mailing me. I appreciate it so much.

Harold Winnings Radio Show

Hi Martin. The Harold Winnings that had the radio show is my father's uncle. My father has an old picture postcard of him in front of the WKWK radio microphone. Does your picture show him in a wheelchair? I have a later picture of him in 1951 with my father, John Richard Gaynor, standing behind him. What my father remembers is Harold Winnings had two sisters, Esta Marguerite (my grandmother) who married John Franklin Gaynor, and Martha Elizabeth (Betty) who married Jimmy Johnson. Harold, Marguerite and Betty's parents were Elias Franklin (Frank) Winnings and Elsie (Boyce) Winnings. My father has a very old picture of Frank and Elsie from before the turn of the century. Frank had a sister Mary Elizabeth (Lizzy) who married Steele (first marriage) and then later William H. Harrison (second marriage). My father also thinks Frank had another brother Norman. That's all he can remember. My father is almost postive that the Harold Winnings from the radio show never had any children. He fell out of a tree when he was 13 or 14 years old and later developed spina bifida from his injuries. My father remembers he may have been married briefly, but had no children from that marriage.

FYI, the back of the picture postcard of Harold Winnings says "Harold Winnings presents Gems from Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow a program of Devotional Poetry, and choice sayings of Thinking Men. Aired Every Saturday 8:30 A.M. over WKWK. Wheeling, W.Va. 1400 on your dial. Residence phone Triad. 3381".

My email is kacker@erols.com. I would be interested in what else you might have on the Winnings. My father can't remember any further back than Frank and Elsie.

John,
Thanks for e-mailing me back. I would love to see the picture you have. I can download adobe if I need to. The man you're talking about is probably my grandfather Charles Norman Winnings. He worked for the railroad and they lived in a small town called Leslie, although my oldest sister in NC told me that Uncle Nay and Aunt Dora lived in Rainelle beside the railroad tracks. I'm not sure if Uncle Nay worked for the railroad or not. I have a picture of my grandfather Charles when he was 16-18 years old working for the railroad.
Please forward your picture and anymore information you have about these people. I will gladly share mine with you.
Thank you John
Kind regards,
Martin Rudd

Winning family research

I am researching my Winning line from Berkeley Co. Virginia (now W.VA). I can go back as far as the 1760's but I am finding that there might have been some connection to the Winans family due to spelling. Does anyone know if there is a connection between Winning, Wining, Winnings & Winings?

I would love to share info. Please email me at auntie2ajr@yahoo.com.

-Jill
