It is frustrating not to be able to alter an old post!!
I would like any input on the posibility that John KIMBROUGH md among wives, one Mary Margaret Buckley WINSTON. If so, her age (b c1640) would be about the same as our William WINSTON #1, which would indicate she was a sister to William instead of a daughter, also John KIMBROUGH came to America abut 1666, same time as William WINSTON (1st mentioned). The two men had adjoing land, and there are several crosses of the KIMBROUGH/ WINSTON family. Would like any inf that would prove/disprove. My interest for this was sparked by the fact that several desc. of John used the given, or middle name of Winston, and there doesn't appear to be any other linkage before the use, unless this wife of John KIMBROUGH was a WINSTON????

I didn't see any possibility, but now I think there might be. Would like that person to contact me again. rdvsr@aol.com

I sent an earlier answer which seems not to have registered.
The key to the matter is that Elizabeth WINSTON who md John BATES was b c1803. This was well before our William WINSTON #1 was born of VA. Elizabeth could be William's aunt, or older sister, or ????, but can't be his daughter.
Williams' 3 sons: Anthony, William, Isaac b in America

This Isaac WINSTON to late to be father of Elizabeth if she born 1605. The father of Isaac, William #1, was born in 1680's, and father, William, born prob. ca 1645.
I don't have any idea who the father of this Elizabeth was.
There was a mention of a John WINSTON earlier, but I don't know anything about him. The father, William, only had 3 sons named Anthony, William, and Isaac. Let me know if you find a clue.

COUTS & Leah STARK; has continued to reside on the old homestead at Guajome, and for fifteen yrs has managed the estate with great skill and ability. Her task has been a trying one, and, but for her great will-power, she would have broken down long ago; but she comes of a family renowned for physical and mental strength and beauty. Her father, Don Juan BANDINI, was a prominent official under the Mexican government,
The name of BANDINI is not originally Spanish, but Italian, the family originating in Italy and there being a family of Bandinis of princely rank now in existence in Italy. b at Lima in 1800, and received his education there. His father came to CA. as master of a Spanish trading vessel in 1819 and 1821
His first wf was Dolores, d/o Capt Jose M. Jose Maria, who md Teresa, daughter of Santiago ARGUELLO and Juanito. His second wf was Refugia, d/o Santiago ARGUELLO (a sis of his son Jose Maria's wife). They had: Juan de la Cruz, Alfredo, Arturo, and two daughters, one of whom, Dolores, was md to Charles R. JOHNSON, and the other, (wrong) Victoria, (Chata), to Dr. James B. WINSTON and lives in LA. Bandini's daughters were famous for their beauty. All his family are in comfortable circumstances, and several are wealthy. They live principally in Southern CA., have md well, and are much respected citizens.

L. A. Times 30 Sep 1910: Mrs. Margarita WINSTON noted CA woman, d in Santa Monica, yesterday, aft twenty minutes' illness d at the Ocean-ave home of her sister, Mrs. Arcdia BANDINI de BAKER, was daughter of Don Juan BANDINI, who came to CA in 1822 and was a was a conspicuous figure in the early history of the State. Mrs. WINSTON b at old San Diego BANDINI homestead.
She was the widow of Dr. J. B. WINSTON who resided in L.A. He was a surgeon in the U. S. army and was for a number of yrs one of the proprietors of the Bella Union Hotel in L.A. at the same time he was interested extensively in mining operations, having several claims on the upper San Gabriel River.
During his long years of residence in San Diego, the home of Don Juan BANDINI was the headquarters for social affairs and in these his interesting daughters were active participants. Being the son of a Lieutenant who served on the "Nymphia," at the Battle of Trafaigar, it was but natural that he should take a deep interest in naval and military affairs Then it happened that when Commodore STOCKTON visited San Diego, he was given liberally of the cattle and stores of the BANDINIS and was a frequent visitor at the home. In 1846, when Commodore STOCKTON took possession of San Diego in the name of the U.S. it so happened that there was not a U. S. flag readily accessible. The commodore related the circumstance to Senor BANDINI" and soon after that the red flannel petticoats of three of the sturdy don's little daughters were being torn to form the red stripes. Cotton sheets supplied the alternate bars, while blue flannel represented the stars. Mrs. WINSTON who died here today, was one of the little girls who sacrificed a part of her clothing for the memorable occasion. and when Commodore Stockton sent his report of the raising of the flag to Washington i.e. accompanied the document with the names of the donors of the flag. Later on the flag was sent to the nat'l capital, where it is preserved in the government archives.
Mrs. WINSTON was noted for her great beauty while young, and for her queenly carriage and incisive wit in her maturer years.
Aside from Mrs. BAKER, who is one of the wealthiest and best known women of southern CA., Mrs. WINSTON had 3 other sisters: Mrs. Cave J. COUTTS, Mrs. Charles JOHNSON, and Mrs. Don Pedro CARRILLO. The latter having been the mother of J. J. CARRILLO, one time Chief of Police of Los Angeles and Santa Monica's present police judge.
The funeral services will be conducted at the Santa Monica Catholic Church Sat. morning at 8:30 The burial will be private, the body being taken to L.A. for internment

??1860 Census Los Angeles L.A.
There is an (Adam) Jordan WINSTON b c1809 NC who we haven't been able to identify, he was in AL before 1850. (wf Delaney WALKER)
Then there is a Thomas WINSTON son of Col. Joseph who went to TN.
Descendants of each of these lines had very close match of DNA (36/36) I hope this leads to some idea of who this Jordan WINSTON descends from.

Hi Rodney

The Anthony who signed this petition in 1779 is indeed Anthony Winston, Jr. (b 25 Nov 1750 & died 8 Nov 1827). He had married Keziah Jones in Buckingham in 1776.

It was his father, Anthony Winston, Sr., who died in 1783 - this Anthony, Sr., was the son of Isaac Winston who died testate in 1760 in Hanover Co., Va.

Anne

Brian: Very interested in your post. My grandfather was Ned Winston, (1843-1917) Ballinlough born, died USA. In my records, I have Peter Kileen m. Emma Winston (1918-1994). I have your grandfather as Thomas Winston, agreeing with you. I record him as Thomas Mickey Winston (1881-1928.) All this agreeing with you. You have Thomas Mickey's father, your grt grandfather, as Bernard Winston. Instead, I have Thomas Mickey W.s father as John Jack Boy Winston (1857-1938). Also, I have a Bernard W. (c1909-before 2001), son of Thomas Mickey. His dau. lives in No. Ireland and sons in Galway. Thus, in this scenario, Bernard would be brother to your grandmother, Emma. I'd very much like to hear from you, especially in reaction to the above conflicts. Brian McCarthy

Fionnagh: My mother, Anne Winston, was USA born. Both her parents were from Roscommon. Her dad was Ed Ned Winston. I've collected a good deal of names, Winstons, going back to early 1800s in Roscommon. My info is that the name came over with (shhh, don't say it loudly) O. Cromwell, c 1649. Some stayed in Waterford. Others, and this is part guesswork, were rewarded by Oliver with land in Roscommon. I communicate with a few of them there. I have a mantra...it goes, If you are Winston and can trace your line to Roscommon, you and I are related. Brian Winston McCarthy

Guadalupe Bandini was my great grandmother and a sister-in-law to James and Magarita Winston. . She is listed as living with the Winston's in the 1880 census. I think she was widowed and it seems she had 2 young sons also listed in the print out of the 1880's census. I believe her husband was Alfredo Bandini, but I am not sure.
Do you have any information about Guadalupe who later married again and had three girls of whom one daughter was my grandmother. My grandmother died when I was very young and our family has so many questions regarding her early life. I thank you for any information that could be helpful...
