Hi Peggy,
Dick Russell stated that Rev. John was not involved in the Revolutionary War. I have searched DAR and SAR records and he isn't found there.
William Winton Sr. is listed as a Patriot by the SAR by the fact that he served a term as Constable for Dublin Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, 1778.
A number of us belong to the Sons of the American Revolution
based on this service.
James

looks very much like we're talking about the same family.

I have lost most of my notes in a move and a computer wipe-out. I believe there were two generations of William Wintons, but am not sure if that means William the father of ME and William the gdfather of ME -- or if the oldest brother William Henry would count as the second William. There was a female White on the same gravestone, but I don't remember the first name - perhaps it is Mary Elizabeth, which would make sense that she would be buried in the family tomb.

I have not had a lot of luck tracing the Winton clan from afar. Most of what I've uncovered came from going to Yalding, or stories from an uncle who went there earlier. The family house was Congeloe or Congelow, which still stands outside the town, and the owners let my uncle William Winton have a tour when he visited years ago. He recognized the house instandly from a painting or photo that our aunt Ethel Winton (daughter of CFWinton son of FCWinton) had on the wall of her home in Mandarin, FL.

am happy to share any info that turns up in future.

Peter,

William Winton (1781?-1854) of Yalding, Kent, his wife Elizabeth (1787?-1853), and their second son Frederick Charles (1825?-1860) are buried in the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in Yalding. Elizabeth's stone lists four children: William Henry, Frederick Charles, Mary Elizabeth and Louisa Frances. No further information on oldest son William Henry. Perhaps he took his share of the inheritance and headed for Australia?

FCW is my ancestor.

Winton (or de Winton)

Hi, details I have on my great grandfather include that he is supposed to have been born at Peace River, near Winnipeg Canada. His name was Edward George de Winton (or sometimes just Winton) and he was born 22 April 1868. Ted is a bit of a mystery man. Family lore has it that he was born in Peace River, but he lists Liverpool England as his birthplace on his marriage certificate - then his death certificate, filled in by his daughter, shows Canada?? His date of birth changes along the way when he filled in his childrens birth registrations. Anyway, he is supposed to have left Canada at about the age of 8 and was apparently in London at some stage as he saw Queen Victoria on the balcony at the Palace. Then ... he is supposed to have stowed away on a ship bound for Australia when he was 14. That makes it about 1882/83. Don't know how correct these details are, so don't know if he stowed away from Canada or from England? No paperwork shows up for him between then and 1893 when he married. Realise this is a long shot, but I can't find any trace of his birth in England and was hoping someone may recognise the name. Regards, Megan

Hello. I'm searching for information about a James Winton (my great-grandfather) who lived in PA (not sure of town) around 1919. He would have been about 20 at the time, so he would have been born around 1899. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to share.

Peggy or anyone, does this connect with anything in your Winton line? My mother is a Winton descended from Jabez Botsford Winton who was born 3 Oct 1801 in Butternuts, Otsego County, New York. He married Sarah Tilson (or Tillson) on 1 Nov. 1827 and died on 1 July 1885 in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. I believe Jabez's parents were Abel and Hannah Winton. Do you have any information on Jabez, Abel, Hannah or their ancestors? I would be glad to share my data if it would help.
Jim Ehrhardt

Sir Francis Walter de Winton was born in 1835, the son of Walter de Winton and Julia Cecilia (nee) Collinson, at Pittsford, Northamptonshire. He married Evelyn Rawson on 9 June 1864 and had children.
Can anyone confirm the names and dates of birth and death of his children? I am unsure of the accuracy of this but I have his children as: Emily Gwenllyan (d. 1911) , Walter Fenwick, Violet May (b. 19 Jul 1867), Richard Stretton and Louise Angela Envice. I have no documentary proof for any of those children’s names.
