Hilda Louise Garrett, of La Mesa, passed away January 6, 2004. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Wippel, born July 17, 1923 in Keyser, West Virginia. She attended Thomas High School and was voted queen of Tucker County. Hilda later graduated from Potomac State College in Keyser and was elected home coming queen, where she met her husband, Dr. Charles M. Garrett. Dr. Garrett and Hilda moved to San Diego in 1956 where they raised their two sons Charles and Steven. Hilda was active in the community and was a member of the medical auxiliary. For fifteen years she held weekly Bible study classes in her home. Hilda was never happier than when she was surrounded by her family, preparing her sumptuous feasts for them. She loved to entertain small and large groups in her home, where often times she would finish the evening with her famous rendition of "Lucky Lindy"! She was an exquisite baker and a gourmet cook. Hilda traveled extensively, often times accompanied by family members.
