Dear Pete,

was really surprised about your message since I had not expected anyone to respond that much later, actually had nearly forgotten about it.
Interesting however to read how the surname's spelling has been changed from Wippel to Whipple ... I was suspicious of that, but was not sure.

I do not kow Roxheim, but Koblenz area is familiar and not too far from where I live now. Actually, it is close to France, and there is some rumor my father's family may have comme from France.
I will take a closer look at that !!!

Thanks for your info, and will keep you updated in case I find anything of interest!

Gunter Wippel
GunterWippel@aol.com
I belive I have some information on the Wippel's of Pomeroy. I am told that I was named after a Katherine Wippel who lived during the 19th century. Her father was from Germany. I recommend you look through the church records of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Pomeroy Ohio.

Kate WIPPEL MILLER

My gg-grandmother Katherine "Katie" WIPPEL was born in Pomeroy, Ohio, (probably) November 25, 1847, to German parents. She married Andrew MILLER (MUELLER or MüLLER) on October 21, 1866, in Meigs County, Ohio. Their children were Anna KORTGARDNER, Katherine PATTERSON, Philipp H.R. MILLER, August MILLER, Augusta SCHATZ, Helen BERG, Mary WEISMAN, Eva BAUER and Louise WESSA BELL. Although Kate WIPPEL appears to have lived in Meigs County until about 1878, but I cannot find her on the 1850 or 1860 census. She died in Cincinnati on December 24, 1918 and her death certificate lists her father as Peter WIPPEL. She is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery. Her burial record lists her mother as Katherine WIPPEL and no father is given. There is a Peter WHIPPLE, age 25, in the 1850 Meigs County, OH census, but the wife is Mary, age 23, and the only daughter is Barbara, age 1. Sons are George, 5, and Philip, 3. Living in the same household, but enumerated as a different family is Katherine (Dietrich) WHIPPLE, 50, widow of Johann WIPPEL of Roxheim, Germany, and her sons Francis, 10, and Elias, 12. I have found no record of Peter and Mary WIPPEL after the 1850 census. I am supplying this detail to see if anyone can connect Kate WIPPEL MILLER to any WIPPEL family.
